The Polar Vantage V2 is Polar's new flagship watch. The upgrade to original Vantage V, it follows hot on the heels of the more outdoorsy Polar Grit X and comes with a remarkably similar set of features. If you've decided you want to upgrade or invest in a Polar watch, but you're not sure if the Vantage V2, Grit X or the older V offers the best value and features you need, this three-way head-to-head is here to help you decide.
Hit play to find out which of these new GPS running watches should you buy.
NOTE: At 3:15 we say the V2 is "a whopping 83g lighter than the Garmin Fenix 6" what we meant here was that it's lighter than the 83g Garmin Fenix 6. But we got overexcited. Sorry about that.

More people should communicate exactly what you said starting around 6:22. We should be able to upgrade our watches to include new software features if the hardware will support them, even if it means paying something for the upgrade. As someone who is using the Fenix 5S, I believe Garmin is the worst offender here.

I picked up the V in the prime day sales for £279 which I thought was good value. So far it is offering me more than what I need for a casual runner, sea swimmer and occasional cyclist.

I'm a very overweight individual and have been working out for 4 months now. I'm able to move more and train more but the only feature i want is the Orthostatic Testing feature. I want to know when I'm overtraining and when it's just in my head. I already have the h10 Polar Chest Strap. What watch do you recommend i buy?

You said that ‘even though the v2 is not as good as it is on paper, it is still better than the vantage v’ but the vantage v is the best for run time on your graph with the full 40 hours ?

I have been a personal trainer for 30 years, I am now a very apparently healthy 49 years old, and then weirdly just had a heart attack last week. I am interested obviously now much more in tracking HRV as accurately as possible, as well as tracking basic things like gym, pool, and short runs. Which watch and strap do you recommend? Polar / Garmin/ something else? I totally realise you are not providing me with medical advice, just looking for opinions. Thanks in advance.

@TheRunTesters 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, sorry to hear that you've had problems. And we hope you're on the mend. In terms of a chest strap we'd tend to go for the Polar H10 which can help provide more accurate data for most watches. The Polar V2 then has an orthostatic test using the chest strap that you can take daily to get a picture of your HRV. Another alternative might be Elite HRV which is a specifically for this kind of monitoring. The Garmin 945 and Fenix 5 and 6 also do HRV testing but you'll need a strap too to do that. There are also apps that offer HRV tracking, using the phone's camera to take readings. HRV4Training is worth a look. Hope that helps and best of luck with a solid recovery mate.

15:17 regarding the discrepancy for the battery on the grit X vs the original vantage V, could it be that the V1 that you used for these tests has an aged battery? these V1 have been on the market for roughly 2 years now
@TheRunTesters
@TheRunTesters 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, that's unlikely to be the case. The disappointing performance has been with the Grit X and V2 rather than the V1.
@brandonbrotzman3717
@brandonbrotzman3717 3 жыл бұрын
Looking at the V1 and the Grit X, I can get special pricing on both. V1 for $250 of the Grit X for $300. For someone who hikes and CrossFits but doesn’t really do regular structured running (save for 400m sprints here and there) which would you choose for those prices I mentioned? Thank you for your help.

@@TheRunTesters my biggest concern with the Grit is it seems to be a dead end product so to speak. No real updates (save for a recent one to fix heart rate spikes) or features be ported down from the V2. Though polar was slow to update the V/M line too after the Ignite came out with so many new features.

Even after Polar USA Warranty Service replacement of my Vantage V2, the replacement unit's Nightly Recharge Sleep Detection remains sadly inadequate. At least two to three times a week, it fails to correctly record the onset of sleep. It will either show no Sleep data at all, or it will report that Sleep onset was 2 or 3 hours later than when I actually did go to sleep. Because Polar fails to allow editing in Polar Flow for the Vantage V2 of the actual onset of Sleep time, the resulting Sleep data reported in Polar Flow is significantly skewed. When it has not recorded at least 4 hours of sleep duration there is no sleep entry whatsoever. This is simply unacceptable in a Polar flagship product. It seems that this unit will be heading to Polar USA for Warranty Service. The upside is that the Polar USA Warranty duration is 2 Years.

For any runner training not more than 10 hrs week, the vantage M is the best value/use. Anything more is just more features to play/confuse with..😅😅😅
@TheRunTesters
@TheRunTesters 3 жыл бұрын
The M does offer a very good feature set and value for the money. Though we'd argue it's not just about the number of hours you run but what you do with them and with what goals in mind also play a big role in someone's decision on these.
