I 100% approve what you said, this year I'm going from AC to a Polaris pro rmk 800 2019 same color as yours. Buying a 2019 was way cheaper and still 3 year warrenty, with the money I saved from buying a 2020 850, I will buy upgrade to turn this into a beast one. Keep up the good content!

Dan, one correction to your last statement. The 2019 Pro-RMK 800 ALSO has the React front end. You don't have to get the 2020 800 to get the narrower ski stance. I just bought a 2019 155 800 at the end of last season, so I know first hand. Great video though! Keep this side-topic type videos coming. Its what is separating you from the pack right now.

Dan, from the seat of the pants, the 800 revs up and accelerates faster than my 850. I haven done a sxs comparison but the 800 is no slouch on the bottom end.

I agree; it’s a strong, snappy engine. I rode one side by side with my 800etec; also a great engine, but felt the Polaris was crisper. The 850’s are a different story, and I haven’t ridden a Poo yet.

While I'm easily caught up in the "need to have the biggest", my '18 Axys 800 155 is running so strong that I'm putting $$ into performance upgrades like gear down kits, suspension, exhaust, push to 163, and the like. The time will come for an 850 (yes, I've ridden one),. but until then I'm really not loosing anything by running my 800 (with many of the engine updates that were being tested prior to the 850 release). It can get me into plenty of trouble already ;-)

I spent last year on a '19 850, 163x3. Loved it. Recently picked up an '18 800, 155x2.6. I'm finally going to be able to get it out tomorrow (the '18). I'm really looking forward to see the difference between the 2. I have not had a chance to ever ride a 155/800. I do remember Ross saying one time that he had gotten 850 greedy once when he hopped over to the 800. This could be interesting.....

@davespargo59443 жыл бұрын
@@defmc1 ,In answer to your question, here goes....I was wondering if my inexperienced ass would be able to tell if there was any difference. Well, I saw more difference than I expected to see. (I will be referencing Chris Burandt some in this reply). The deciding factor for me getting the 163 was because CB had said in the past that the 163 was "Very forgiving". Those words caught my attention. I'm 58 now, and not looking to fly through trees, do re-entrys, defy gravity, or be to overly crazy. I love to go exploring tho, single track type stuff, and also enjoy some deep meadows and some open steep after a good 3 foot dump. That 163 filled the bill for me. I had tons of confidence in the machine, and myself. and yes, CB was correct that this machine was forgiving. Now, enter the 155 (with an 800). You would think that there wouldn't/shouldn't be much difference. But, like I said, I saw more difference than I expected. 1st, the machines foot print, 36" vs 39" and 163x3 (basic mono tube shock) vs 155x2.6 with Walker Even clickers. 850 vs 800. Also, gearing along with throttle response. On the 163, I could just putt along in the deep with no worries, and walk up the slopes with ease while easy on the throttle (7600ish for rpm). With the 155, the first thing I noticed was that she seemed to want to trench down when taking off, and in turns, the nose felt a little heavy and it seemed like she wanted to almost dive on me. Also, in general it seemed like she was just a little harder to get things to happen (side hill, turns, etc...). This is where I went ahead and contacted Chris B. for some insight. Here is what he had to say...."Your describing the exact difference between the two track lengths. A 155 needs to be ridden with more aggression versus the 163". Well, that was an easy enough answer. Operator error (as it were). As Chris has also said in the past, "This machine is only doing what you told it to do". Again, to reference my age,58. I like to lay back and explore, and the 163 is an amazing platform for that. I originally thought that maybe the 163 was way more than I needed, but it really turned out to be what I needed. Glad I do have both tho. I just need to re-learn how to ride the 155. I hope this helps you. Maybe more info than you needed, but maybe it'll be able to help someone else.

@@davespargo5944 Thanks Dave. Didn't see your reply until tonight. I'm 45 as of 2022. Done clutching, gearing, pipe, and a few other upgrades last year and my 155 800 is more sled than what ability I have. This coming year will be my 6th on the snow. All I say is you can't miss what you never had. Being 160 lbs the lighter weight platform makes sense to me. Thinking about the 9r for snowcheck. We'll see if the boss is okay with that. Have a good season and be safe.
@davespargo5944 Жыл бұрын
@@defmc1, hey, cool to see you back. Update......I have really come to like that 155 platform. It is the sled I actually prefer now. The 163 does have it's place in life, depending on the conditions. Other days, it can be a brick. For all around, I find the 155 to be so much more playful and just about any given day, it is the go to machine. Hope this winter does you justice.

Being from basically the flattest land in the country (MN) would you recommend anything else for mostly trail riding?
@fricot_214 жыл бұрын
Great video Dan! I always thoroughly enjoy watching your content! I actually just bought my sled right before last season; it's a 16 RMK 800 155". I bought the sled bone stock and over the summer, haven't added much to it, besides bumpers, bags, and whatnot. I did just purchase a Bikeman Full Velocity trail can and a Bikeman Stage 2 adjustable elevation clutch kit at the NH Grassdrags. Last season was my first year boondocking, up until then I have always been a trail rider. My riding now is a healthy blend of 70/30 Maine mountain tree-riding and Maine/New Hampshire trail riding. With that all in mind and your wealth of knowledge on the 800's; What aftermarket accessories should I look into next? Suspension, Big Bore, Lightweight Stuff? Or should I just run the 800 and save up for an 850? What are the 800's weak points, if any? Any common parts that I should carry out with me in the backcountry (besides belts & plugs)?

I've been on an '18 800 155x3 for about 1600 mountain miles, the last 900 or so with a Silber on it. Not a lick of trouble. The only things I have done is a tether and fully clipped the track.

@@fricot_21 The '16 thru '18 Rmk's tracks were clipped every other window, which most tracks are but, they clipped between the lugs and not under the lug like most tracks. It causes unusual wear above the lugs. Polaris claims no responsibility but the '19 Rmk tracks have been corrected. Weird.

Question for you guys! My dad has an 850 and I love how little engine vibration there is. Is the 800 as refined of an engine as the 850 or does it have a bit more "old" technology feel to it like the old Arctic Cat Suzuki 800's?

Andrew Bittmann with cats approach angle, big wheel out back and the alpha skid. Not to mention the 2020 800 tune up. I think it’s as capable or more than any 850 on the hill. I’ll find out first hand, my alpha is sitting and waiting for snow. For me it was a toss up what to buy. Then I started looking at pricing. No denying the 2016 axys pushed the entire industry forward. It will go down as one of the best mountain sleds ever produced.

Not to mention you pre-ordered your alpha for about $3000 less than an axis. Or that you could have bought a new in season Doo for 9999 this spring. He is using "value" very loosely

Tyson Boser One thing cat needs to do though is keep a two rail option for riders in the Midwest who go ride in the mountains a few times a year but want to be able to ride back home some too but want a 153 instead of a 146.
@boser12124 жыл бұрын
Andrew Bittmann I totally agree. I’m not sure why they didn’t keep the option. I know with my new sled being a 165 it won’t be the funnest machine out here in the flat lands but I certainly will be riding it a bit. We will see just how shitty the alpha rail is outside it’s comfort zone. In saying that I’m perfectly fine with the trade off.

16-18 800's are really similar, but like anything the further into the model cycle they better they are. The newer models seem to be a bit more dialed and reliable. 19 is a big change with the 850 engine and narrower react front end.
