Yellowtail and Bluefin Tuna fishing aboard the Polaris Supreme out of San Diego, California for a 3-day trip. We fished down the Baja coast all the way down about 150 miles south of San Diego. We spent the first two days hunting down the bluefin. The first night we only got one fish but the second night we managed to score about 17. As is typical with Bluefin Fishing, just about as many fish were lost as were landed, I myself hooked two bluefin and lost both of them.
The third day was spent chasing down yellowtail not too far “off the beach”. We had much better luck with that, and the boat landed about 120 yellowtail as well as some assorted rock fish and lingcod. The yellowtail were pretty much exclusively taken on yo-yo iron jigs, with only a couple being taken on live bait.
Overall, it was a very interesting trip, and a great way to start the season. Can’t say enough great things about the boat and the crew of the Polaris supreme and I’m looking forward to fishing with them again at some point.
