Bought this Barn Find Polaris Xplorer 250 a few weeks ago. It seems that the last 3 owner did not try to start it. In the last video, it started with a squirt of pre mix gas in the carburetor. In this video, we will clean the carburetor and give the engine a cold start. Still trying to determine if this machine is viable before a significant amount of time and money is invested!

Glad to hear it run. Clutch engagement is at well over 2000 rpm, I was on a Polaris 700 today that idled at 1250 but I would still check the shifting. Once you stop the carb from leaking right next to those sparks coming off the jump box, see if the shifter goes into reverse, neutral, high, and to the right of high is low range. Hang a right at neutral and push up parallel to high. You're getting there Harvey, enjoying the progress with a different breed of animal. Let me know if you run into a wall, we usually have at least 6 or more Polaris atvs and side by sides at the shop any given day so holler if you need a question answered. Best of luck to you sir.

Hey Steve!!! Good info on polaris torque converter engagement. The neutral to high is the shifter lever/forks that is frozen.... Hopefully, the carb I ordered will work.... I also ordered a belt.... Hopefully, we will get a ride soon.... Thanks for the offer of help on the polaris machines!!! Thanks also for Ur thoughts, wisdom, advice, watching, and commenting!!!!

Pull the carb again and carefully remove the pin holding the float lever from the pylons. Take out the needle and if there is a groove on the tip, replace it as that will flood your carb.

@@HarveySpooner I own a 96 Polaris 400 sportsman. I just pulled the tranny today to find out why reverse is so finicky and where the oil is leaking from. I will have greasy hands over the next few days. I have a love / hate relationship with this machine.

Hey Bill, I don't have Ur machine in front of me, but, I had a similar situation, turns out the engine did not have a solid ground to the frame and battery and wire harness.... Also, on most China starter solenoids, they get ground when the neutral light comes on, is Ur neutral light working???? Also, the brushes may need to be replaced or maybe sticking.... I would make sure all the grounds are tight and I would tap on the starter... So, starter or grounds.... I hope this helps

Bypass the oil injector system and cap the line off. Run exclusively on 40:1 premix and you will save the engine if the oil injector system fails....very cheap insurance.

@@arberfilms2302 A rebuilt engine is too costly to blow off on the possibility that an oil injection line might become unattached. I'd rather be safe and know that the engine is protected with the correct amount of gas / oil combination. Almost never fail is not reassuring to me.

Hey Loretta! I'm with U, extra oil will do a lot less harm than to little or no oil... It is also a 20year old engine that I don't want to rebuild anytime soon, so, if any of the seals are leaking, the extra oil will help the engine survive a lean running condition... Thanks for the good advice, Ur thoughts, watching, and commenting!!!

Hey Arber!!! I'm going to keep the oiling system intact and run 40-1.... It is an old engine that I want to keep alive without rebuilding it and replacing the seals.... Extra oil should also protect me from running in a possible lean condition... I hear what U R saying about the oil pump, and as a matter of fact, it seems to be working, seems to be putting out a lot of smoke for 40-1... Thanks for the info. Ur thoughts, watching, and commenting!!!

@@HarveySpooner Loretta doesn’t know what has got to him, if he’s that concerned about a simple mechanical based system, he can do whatever he wants with his wasted time. There’s a reason hoseclamps exist anyway.

Those Polaris carbs are finicky to say the least ! It’s the same carb that they use on there snowmobiles ! I DONT trust the oil injected system at all ! I have 2 of those 250 cc engines and changed the carbs right away , they have lots of power in the high RPM band ! SEE nothing to a 2 stroke carb except that float system sucks ! Lol
