In this video, I demonstrate my 3D printed 4x5 back for Polaroid Pathfinder 110a. I hit a major milestone! Got all the components to finally make the test shots. Lots of things went wrong while shooting this video, though I hope you'll like it and laugh :)

Thanks for the cool videos! A lot of people is uploading kind of the same film photography videos. It's nice to see someone trying different things, experimenting with his tools to open new creative possibilities.

Very good job, I tried to convert my 110a making 3d printed back but i had some trouble to adjust it to the camera. So ive just cut the original back and placed a plastic frame which is holding the 4x5 back, ill have to test it for focus and light leaks. Btw to hold the lens in the correct position i cut the metal piece on the plate and twist it up to act like a hook and lock the lens. Keep going, cant wait to see your progress !

Hey Romian, in the second iteration I modeled a plate to hold the lens in position. I wanted to keep my mod non-destructive but had to cut off the rivets that are holding the plate. All in all, what's the point of a conversion if you can't be sure about the focus? In my Instagram stories, you can see progress instagram.com/soexpired I post updates time to time. The big bang release is close ;)

I don't know where you're based but 3dhubs.com is also a good way of outsourcing 3D printing. Great work and super excited to see how it turns out! Don't even know how you begin to accurately measure the Polaroid to start modelling the new back so super impressed

This is amazing. There are so many crazy, complicated conversions online and they all seem like a pain, but yours looks exactly how I imagined it should. Good job! Have you put the STL files online to share them, and if not, could you?

You did a good job. Your version doesn’t look too complicated. I purchased one this year but think what your doing looks simple but a very promising work in progress. Buy a printer, get it done.

At least one thing you're right is that I should finish that project. I put all the pieces back I though of buying the soooo expired polaroid roll or two to give it the last shot, because in order to maintain an acceptable thickness one should remove at least one metal frame from the inside. I think I'll do an update soon. Thanks for sharing the link!

Thank you for asking, though that doesn't work that way. It's an iterative process. Design-print-try-repeat and ultimately requires some time that I spend on other more important things as of today.

Great job! I noticed your video and it seems that we have been working on the same kind of conversion and come up with very similar solutions. It would be great to exchange some ideas. I sent you a pm via instagram.

Hey, I haven't figured out a nice solution for mounting a film holder myself. The one you see in the video is flimsy and leaks light.
@e-mat6077
@e-mat6077 6 жыл бұрын
It seems we´ve been going the same route. The film holder mount must be as shallow as possible in order not to obstruct the rangefinder. I did manage to make one which was sturdy enough, but the rangefinder was extremely uncomfortable to use, so I guess I still need to find another approach both smaller but still strong enough. I am also thinking about printing a kind of clip-on part for the focusing rail to automatically lock the lens to the new infinity position.
@SoExpired
@SoExpired 6 жыл бұрын
I designed this clip as well, pretty straightforward. Now I'm thinking of using rubber bands to hold the film holder. Then only the light leaks will be left to be resolved.
@e-mat6077
@e-mat6077 6 жыл бұрын
Rubber bands are one possible solution. However I was thinking about making flexible clips to hold down the filmholder. One in the middle section of the closed end and one on both sides of the end where the film holder is inserted. Velcro tape (the soft side) could be used as light trap around the film holder to prevent leaks. How many printed parts does your design contain? My current version consists of two; the main part plus the part which holds the film holder, but I am checking if I could get it all to print at once except for the clips which press down the film holder.
I got a 4x5
