One thing to keep in mind is that the 660 is a very old camera at this point. I have one where the light meter does not seem to work correctly when I'm using the flash taking pictures as you did in this video. My backgrounds with similar differences come out almost completely black. That is only a guess my other assumption is that maybe what camera is stuck on a fast shutter speed. I'm aware many old Polaroid still look perfectly fine and I have a few.

Indeed, copy variation is a major factor when dealing with older cameras - arguably even a bigger factor than the nominal capabilities of a particular model!

Polaroid Now+ introduced manual controls and a tripod socket
@10rollsoffilm11
@10rollsoffilm11 2 жыл бұрын
Yes! Now+ is basically the camera Polaroid Now should have been from the start. You can also think of it as a lovechild of the original Now and OneStep+ (especially seeing how they discontinued the OneStep). I think Now+ is a bit overpriced right now but as soon as it gets a discount, I'll definitely give it a go!

Informative video. Thanks for sharing. Interesting you have your Polaroid camera with a Kodachrome sticker on it. Kodak tried to make their own instant film camera. It was actually fun to use and I thought the photo surface was better. Plus one was able to peel away the chemical layer and just have the photo. Unfortunately for Kodak, they were found to be infringing on Polaroid's copyright and they had to pull their instant camera's off the market. My mom might still have the camera in her closet. And so it goes...

Fuji Instax cameras are very similar to those old Kodak cameras and are just a lot smaller. From what I understand is the Kodak in the Fujis expose the film differently eliminating the need for the mirror that Polaroid has inside that results are all the Polaroid camera bodies having the same general shape.
@10rollsoffilm11
@10rollsoffilm11 11 ай бұрын
Instax really intrigues me! If only there were cameras with some degree of creative control and half-decent lenses that didn't cost a kidney (as Mint models do, awesome and capable as they are)... I also don't particularly like the look of b/w Instax films for some reason.

It seems 660 makes a better work when exposing photos.The Mandalorian (I dont know if because of the film or the cam, or bc the flash) is not doing a "balance" work =/.
@10rollsoffilm11
@10rollsoffilm11 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed! Especially for portraits or simply with the subject placed prominently in the foreground, 660 seemed to be just that little bit more reliable and balanced.

@@10rollsoffilm11 I found a Polaroid cameras of any vintage no two are exactly alike but a lot of people have had exposure issues with the Polaroid now cameras. My grandmother got a Polaroid now for Mother's Day few years ago it always Overexposed the picture letter if I use the flash or don't use the Flash. I own a Polaroid one-step Plus but usually its exposure spot on when just using it as a point-and-shoot camera. The one-step plus is a fixed-focus camera with that can be toggled between a landscape and portrait lens.

@10rollsoffilm11
@10rollsoffilm11 2 жыл бұрын
That depends. First of all, the camera won't do ANYTHING without the film pack: the battery is in it, so no film pack means no power. If the camera shows no signs of life with a fresh film pack (and does not 'spit out' the film pack cover/blank frame, you may be out of luck...

I love Polaroid but the new film sucks. The photos my parents took in the 80’s look 100x better than the ones I’m getting now. Fuji has much better film, but the sizes suck 😢

It can be a little tight and the pack is tricky to grip onto, so I sometimes use pliers to grab the tab attached to it and then pull gently. There isn't much you can damage in the camera (looks like Polaroid employed some quality engineers!) 😉

Oh wow the old 660 camera is much better. The new iType is both overexposed and out of focus at a trash useless level . What a shame in 2023 they can’t make a camera as good as an old camera made before they were even born
@10rollsoffilm11
@10rollsoffilm11 Жыл бұрын
A shame indeed, I was hoping for the new stuff to be at least as good. Although to be fair, the 660 was selling for 95 bucks when it was introduced in 1981, which translates into over 300 usd in today's money when adjusted for inflation - more than double the price of Polaroid Now... Would you be willing to pay that much more for this kind of quality increase? To be honest, I'm not sure what my answer would be 🤔
@aleksanderdomanski222

In case of Polaroid Now "autofocus" is a bold word. Camera has two lenses, one set at hiperfocal, other at about 50cm (1 and 1/2 feet) distance and just switches between them. Nothing fancy, OneStep 2 / OneStep plus (previous models) has same functionality but done by manually switching the lever.
@10rollsoffilm11
@10rollsoffilm11 Жыл бұрын
You are correct! The system in 660 is not much different, although according to some sources it has either 3 or 4 of those points, so at least in theory it should be more accurate.

Man, the Mandalorian edition is just the epitome of cheap consumerism. Not knocking the show, but it doesn't look like a $100 MRSP product, and if it weren't for the merchandising and sale price, it wouldn't have any appeal at all.
