Hey so I have this camera. I was always interested in photography and after my grandfather passed away I inherited his Polaroid land camera 800. I have no idea how to use it. It came with original postcarders, polacolor print mounts, Polaroid bounce flash bracket and several light and dark gray and bulb covers? And different diffusers for the flash. I was curious if it was possible to use the camera with just the postcarders or polacolor print mounts or if I needed to find film rolls on eBay or Amazon? Also, I’m not sure how to remove the lens cap. Thanks in advance!

The red switch on the back doesn't cut anythng. It just releases the pins that stop the film when you are pulling. At 7:58 you can see the holes in the backing paper. Then at 8:08 you see the same holes in the positive paper. You can also see the pins on the back next to the roller.

I believe there should be a cylindrical container with an moisten applicator for applying a fixing agent to your positive image after it develops.
@AndrewSMoore73 жыл бұрын
Correct, that's only if the film works, unlike mine, haha! And the modern packfilm by Polaroid and Fuji no longer needs the applicator
@mikeminici49563 жыл бұрын
Do you know how the flash atttachment is powered? Any place for batteries in this unit? I thought pulling the exposed film through the right side was supposed to squeeze the developer onto the plates and after waiting a few minutes you pull the halves apart and wipe fix gel on the image. Or was that a later design!
@AndrewSMoore73 жыл бұрын
Hi! The standard flash for this model (The "BC flash") does not require a battery. The upgraded "Wink Light" flash takes a large Eveready battery which I am not sure the voltage of offhand. And yes, you are correct...the external rollers were a later design for the packfilm cameras. This model has internal rollers which disperse the developer as the film travels to that back compartment
@mikeminici49563 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewSMoore7 Very helpful response. I should have tinkered with the unit before asking dumb questions but in doing so I believe there is a packet of film still in the camera! In fiddling with the shutter I may have re-exposed an image but have not opened the back. If I continue the process and pull out the strip following your developing instructions, is there a fixative I could use to stop the development on remaining film?Even if I never find a usable film, I think you’re video is the best to be found for this model. Thank you.
@AndrewSMoore73 жыл бұрын
@@mikeminici4956 If your camera came with the fixer applicator tube then certainly use it. If not, the newer film does not come with one (fixer is built in), so you may have to source actual darkroom fixer, or just leave it unfixed. If you leave it without, the image won't fade immediately, but it will over time.

No battery in the camera. The flash units have a battery. The camera just connects the 2 terminals on the flash. The 281 works with a AA and M5 bulbs. The winklight (250) uses an obsolete 45V battery. Really only usable with the 3000 speed film. But the add-on that takes AG1 bulbs can be triggered at lower voltage. I'm using a 9V.

I doubt they will, this one is just too much of a pain to use, and the flash units are damn near impossible to come by. The Automatic Land Camera is much easier to use, but Fujifilm makes the film for that now.
@TEDodd7 ай бұрын
@@arthurserino2254Fuji stopped. There are conversions for the Type 40 cameras (like the 800 in the video) to use Instax square and wide. I used my 800 a lot when film was available. Never found it difficult or painful. I have a 281 flash. Works with AA battery and M5 bulbs. Also have a 250 (winklight) with the AG1 bulb add-on. Simple conversion for 9V battery on that.

Actually it's EV, exposure value. If sets both shutter speed and aperture. The camera has 4 shutter speeds; 1/100, 1/50, 1/25, and 1/12. The larger apertures=faster shutter. Smaller apertures=slower shutter.

the port on the lens housing goes to the polaroid Winklight +250 flash. to get one to work you're gonna need to replace the battery and capacitor providing the bulb is in sound shape. modern solutions are availiable. i have one myself and the battery and cap are dried up and bunk as fuck. hope that helps. heres a scene from colombo with the camera you're talking about :) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ndSBfLKel7HNnXU.html
@TEDodd7 ай бұрын
The socket on the lens housing is for an electronic flash. Wink light mounts on the hot shoe. I uses a readily available 12V automotive bulb. I bought some on Amazon. Doesn't solve the battery issue. And it's only useful for 3000 speed B&W film. A 9V could be used to fire the little flash bulb attachment for the wink light (uses AG1 bulbs) But I'd use the 281 flash instead. AA battery works in it with M5 flash bulbs.

I don't think this is correct. The film should be pulled out the right side of the camera, rather than open the back (which exposes the undeveloped film) . The film needs to move through the rollers to distribute the chemicals that develop the image.
@TEDodd7 ай бұрын
Not sure he pulled far enough when. He loaded. Should have caught on the stops. But after the shot, flip the red switch to release film. Then pull til it stops. Tear off excess. Let develop. Then open the rear door and remove the print. I used mine a lot in the 80s. But they stopped making film in 92. His chemicals are all dried up (same as what I have left).
