Best actor in the series. His performance is so nuanced and memorable-and as deplorable as George’s actions can be, he gets us to care. I love Jack Farthing’s work. There were many talented actors in this show. He absolutely stands out.

What a tremendously talented actor Jack Farthing is ! His portrayal of George Warllegan was phenomenal. From beginning to end he was able to convey to the audience George's insecurities, sadness, resentment, jealousy, the agony, the doubts, the responsibity he felt for his family, the immense love he had for Elizabeth and most of all his insanity in the last season. Even his scheming was superbly conveyed and so very believable. The last scene in season 5 episode 8 when he enters the carriage to leave Trentwith seeing Elizabeth's ghost disappear through the doors as he departs made me truly feel the pain he must have felt! I'm in awe of his fantasticly superb acting!

Jack Farthing is the jewel of Season 5. The depth and breadth of his acting are such that you feel compelled to weep as he eyes the shadow of Elizabeth’s character, whilst departing in the carriage from Trenwith. I wish this brilliant actor every success and feel certain his talents will be properly recognized.

Despite his wealth, George is a vulnerable man when it came to the emotions he had loving Elizabeth. Next to Francis and Ross I find him the most sincere about having feelings for Elizabeth. If she wasn't that thorn apart between her feelings for the three of them, but could have given herself to George alone, she had been much happier. Its a pity there was no more time given to Elizabeth and George, they were a loving couple. George knew that and her death teared him apart.

But lets not forget, the birth of Valentine under the black moon is always in his mind, as a shadow that not has to be looked at, because he sworn it to Elizabeth. He will take care of him and there daughter Ursula as he promised Elizabeth. George recovers from his madness and gets his old tricks, for to remain 'Sir', back.

George is really the most incredible villain I have ever seen. With all his wicked evil actions..in season 5 I couldn't help but pity and sympathize with him. It hurted seeing him griefing for his wife .. it was hear breaking when he went to the poldarks seeing them happily together then trying to commit suicide. And of course.. the scene where he saves Ross made me speechless. George is the kind of villain whom you don't want to see him dead or going through somethin bad.

Jack Farthing and his character George have become my favorite. Especially in Season 5, I find myself rooting for him. Apart from his story line, the writing this season has been just been rehashed scenarios and I found myself not caring at all for any of the new characters and even for Ross or Demelza. I so wish this story would not have been cut so abruptly; I was completely captivated by his plight.

George was such a complex character. So many times it seems that the 'bad guy' can be very one-dimensional in terms of why they are the way they are. But the way George was written is so interesting and deep that it really makes you want to see things from his perspective. I'd say he's right up there with Jaoquin Phoenix's portrayal of Commodus in terms of bad guys. Loved to hate him LOL.

Just binge watched Poldark season 1-5. 😭 I felt I got closure with th ending, even tho their stories go on. Was basically a happy ending for all but the scene where George looks on Trenwith with Elizabeth's reflection walking away disappearing broke my heart (even though it was him getting closure its still so sad). She was his only saving grace 🥺 and the person who gave the broken beast a heart. He was a baddie but a baddie we loved to watch and a darn good husband and father. Unlike Ross and Francis, even when he was jealous and suspicious he didn't cheat on Elizabeth and vowed to never love another even after she was gone 😔, and loved his children too (when he wasnt lost to grief in madness of course). So atleast he valued his own. So it was hard to see him fall apart the way he did when she passed away. But I was so happy he saved Ross in the end and had his moment in the sun

The Actor playing Sir George is doing an amazing job of portraying sane Sir George and totally broken Sir George. I'm surprised that the uncle has not dumped the boy, Valentine over at Nampara. It is clear that are he wants to be and j can't think of a place that would take him with no questions asked. After bonge/power watching every minute of this show, and purchasing every magazine with a story about the cast, I was so very saddened to see that they are shutting down complete production of Poldark. It has gutted me. I've grown to love and respect these characters and feel that they are pulling the plug way too soon. My goodness, Law and Order is on its 25th year!! I want to know what happens to these people I've never written a 'fan's letter like I am now. Please do not take this off the air. Sell it to Amazon Video, or someone in New Jersey. Just keep them on the air. Thank you for your time. Susan Wilson Bonneau

this was the beginning of george's redemption - showing how much he genuinely loved elizabeth, and that she wasn't just a possession for him. i just wish they'd shown just a bit more of a growth of morality from him - i didn't feel he quite earn his heroic act at the end. i loved the moment but in my head i can't quite reconcile it with what i know of george's character.

Morality...thats the key word in George his character. He will stay a calculated banker who defends his wealth at all cost. Lady Harriet is much younger than him what gives him the security that he is a powerful man. Of course he's attracted to her and she to him, but he compares her with Elizabeth as if he is easing his conscience. Lucky for him Harriet don't give a damn, she loves his attempts. He becomes an authority that will not be overruled and has egoistic traits to stay that way. Valentine is a great concern to him because he promised Elizabeth to take care of him and he never forgets and struggles with the contempt Valentine is giving him. Its all in the last books. They are awesome.

He'd be paying for it. His legal heir, Valentine is actually Ross' son (his one true enemy's) and born out of his wife's. If that's not karma, Idk what is. He's ..what's the term..' cuckolded.' The sad part is, poor V. He's not ever going to receive proper love and have a role model to look up to. Bad start, bad ending for him. No worry, he'd also cause a lot of trouble and embarrassment for George. The clincher is, George's aware of Valentine's true parentage too, although he didn't quite declare the fact that V is really Ross' son. He's kind of 'stuck.' Plus, his second wife openly just married him for his money and always put him down every time she could and a great flirt to Ross.

Neither I. He is a poor man, jealous, insecure and greedy. The plot and subplot this season are bad script and the many dialogues are nosense. When DH had to write something new and get apart from the books she hadn't ideas. George's madness was boring and eventually he got to his senses after a hit on his skull. Demelza saying that she was Ross a honorable man and can marry her after she went his bed was shameful. Tess isnt't the worse character of the fiive season. Demelza's pity about the feelings Tess to Ross... well I think Eleanor was a bad time saying these lines. And they copy some shoots of the other seasons. They would never make this season with DH as writer.

Struggled with this show. It was really good, but a bit too much Drama. One aspect in particular was just UNREAL. The show itself was a bit on the crazy side, but the Character George Warleggan, was horrifically written. I dont think the writers did any research into banks during this era. George would NOT be after Ross, SPECIALLY for all but no reason like he is in the show. Sure, say hes jealous or whatever terrible excuse you have to give him motives for his actions, in all honestly, everything he does is literally for no reason, he's after ross cause the story needs a bad guy, but theres no reason or sense for why he is after ross specially not as bad as he is. I wont give spoilers but its totally unrealistic. THAT ASIDE. Lets go into the HISTORICAL aspect of why the warleggan's are just TERRIBLY written. I don't think the writers knew ANYTHING about the history of that era, One industrial revolution, might have made the writers want to think about those mines just a bit more ;) second, the British credit crisis, during the most dangerous time to own a bank... George... is going after ROSS, for NO REASON, RECKLESSLY.... oooookaaayy. (He'd go bankrupt over night ;) but lets just ignore that magical fact about England during the years literally running right through the show.) Then right after the Credit Crisis, as... banks were dropping like flies (cough cough hint hint wink wink knudge knudge.) The country went into a recession... for obvious reasons... and guess who got hit the worst? You guessed it! the banks. Guess who was in the BEST position due to this being right through the Industrial revolution... the MINES. Historically... Ross.... would have been way richer then George.... sooooooo anyway (mega history fail writers.) Then you go into the banking crisis, then lets ignore the fact that guess what was happening in 1791 in the bank world?!?! (Keep in mind, Poldark is based between 1781 and 1801.) Well, none other then the DUTCH Banks are trying to take all banking power they can. (btw... they did an AMAZING job ;) ) Also due to all this chaos, 1780-1800, was the WORST time in england, for bank HIESTS.... SO the writers are SERIOUSLY trying to base... that with ALLL OF THIIIIS going on... george is going after ROSS?!?!? Yeah sorry. its not realistic in the slightest. Next time do an ounce of historical research for your villains please. George warleggan was a terribly written Character and his hole family and movement was just a massive broadcast that the writers had zero clue what they were talking about.

@Micheal S @micheals766 Thank you for your explanation on the history of the time period in wich Poldark should have lived. You have read one of my comments and must have noticed that is was from a romantic point of view. I've seen the whole series and read the last books. I did not read Poldark, Warleggan, Jeremy and the Black Moon yet (haven't got the time). I don't know anything of banking in that time and looked at the series in a total different way. The latest books gave me a good idea of the character Warleggan after he went on living without Elizabeth. I think he was a egoistical man but had good manners how to treat a woman by example he dit not marry his second wife Harriet until his finance was in order. But... he lived stricly to the law. On the other side it didn't keep him from speculate on finance in the time of the Napoleon war, where Poldark was send to, to keep the crown safe. The series are different than the books, yes. Most films and series have fantastic plots in it which are not true or realistic and historical accurate. I agree on that. That leaves me the question: Was Winston Graham accurate in his writing?

@@limelight1397 Now that I admittedly can not comment on, as I never read the books. I started on the series and it just didn't get me hooked enough to check the books out. I certainly agree on a lot you said, But a lot you say also warrants my confusion on the writing of the character at least in the show's perspective. He was very egoistical which I always gathered was the one standing reason as to why he went after Poldark so hard. But, also him strictly following the law changed, specially when concerning Poldark. For instance when Poldark was taken to court, George was paying witnesses to falsify their testimonies. This not only was very illegal, but it also was a very strong way for him to try and take Poldark out. If so egoistical, wealthy, and prominent, why did he care so much to try and falsify a court hearing? In consideration of this being lengthy, I'll stop there, but while the actor did amazing with the character, I just never got Warleggan's motives, they just never made sense in any way I approached it. again, at least from the show's point of view. Perhaps looking into the books deeper might give some clarity?

@@micheals766 After I had seen the series, someone on the comments on another channel pointed me out on the fact that the series are not the same as the books and the scriptwriters made changes. Most bookreaders were not content with this. I make no fuss about that cause most series are not true when they adjusted to the screen's possibilities. That aside I started to read from the six book, The Four Swans, after I had read Demelza. My interest went to the next generation Poldarks and others, I wanted to see what happened to them all, after the series. There are twelfe books. One of them is titled Warleggan. So maybe you can get more information about his character by reading it. I do not say that you must. I find the series excellent. I hope some day the last books will be filmed. I am curious what a production will make of them. That will not be easy, cause there is so much happening. There is also another Poldark series made earlier but I like this last one better. I say like what you want about it. There are so much opinions about these characters and adventures. I am not occupied with it on the moment, there is so much to watch on the TV and streaming sources. Well if you only want to watch the series, you do only that! Have a nice day.

This season sucked bollocks, they should have stuck to the source material not make a load of nonsense up. The whole "George being insane" sub-plot is completely out of character for him per the book, he is a petty extremely insecure individual but he's not mad ffs.

Jack was outstanding as George Warleggan. I hated him so much in this series proving what an excellent job the actor did. They only time I felt for George was at the end when he sees Elizabeth walking into Trenwith for the last time. WOW!!!!

The best actor in the series by far, which is saying something as they are all stupendous! How as a viewer you can go from hating him in one scene and then taking pity on him/loving him the next. The final episode, after he has saved Ross by shooting Hanson or Merceron (can’t remember 2:54 which), is just my absolute favourite ❤️ Jack Farthing most underrated ENGLISH actor of the past decade.
