I have been teaching myself the basics of endgrain turning on the pole lathe - it's a whole new process compared to facegrain turning and I've had to forge my own special hook tools for certain steps. Look out for the backwards cutting 'politician' hook in the video.
I understand the process now and I have a few ideas already on how to improve my tools.
My cup has a couple of pesky cracks in the rim, as I am still putting too much pressure on the thin walls with the shaft of the tools while I turn. Like the last one I glued them shut and they won't present any issue for cold drinks.
I'm really proud of myself but I want to be clear that I can't take any credit, this is a direct copy of Yoav's cup, and I learned most of my method from his videos with @zedoutdoors , and some videos on Yoav's own KZfaq channel @yoavelkayam. Did you know he had one? It's criminally underwatched, the videography is great.
If you want to learn a new skill, copying treen from an established craftsperson is a great way to understand the methods and processes. (Just don't try to sell it as your own creative work!)

Utterly beautiful. How did you finish the cup and did you use it to drink from? All the best from Scotland.

Definitely needed to tighten up that tool rest. I do like that you minimize the tool marks.

Doesn't bother me, I like It loose because if I get a catch it just lifts out rather than jolting my arm.
