I got to meet G W Bailey twice. My friend attended the same church and was good friends with his son Martin. The first time I met him we had stopped by his to pick up Martin, on our way to see Iron Maiden. When we walked into the house GW was sitting on a Lazy-Boy Recliner and before Martin could introduce us he turned to us and said, (LOUDLY in his gravely voice) " NO!!!!! My head did NOT go up the horse's ass!'. The second time we stopped by pick up Martin, We were in the living room and GW walked out of the kitchen and handed us sodas. When I said thank you. He said, "I'm not being generous! I'm trying to fill you little bastards up so you have less room for beer!".

40 years ago. This one along with Beverly Hills Cop. When unorthodox comedies about police were golden. P.A. had so many characters with so many personalities. Great direction and writing for it's genre. 12 of the people involved have passed away, some of them part of the franchise for most of the films. Director of the first installment, the late Hugh Wilson does a cameo (Angry Driver). 1+6 sequels within a decade and the first film was the highest-grossing. The content was dumbed down and marketed to kids as an animated series (1988-1989) with tie-in comics and video games. Also a short-lived series continuation (1997-1998) of the films with some castmembers reprising their roles. All of them are good with their own craziness. Go ahead and watch 'em all.

Fun fact: 13:30 In the shotgun range when Leslie Barbra points the shotgun at the other cadets, the ONLY one who doesn't duck is Tackleberry. That's because he's a massive gun nut and knows that Barbara's shotgun didn't have a new round racked into the chamber and thus couldn't be fired.

Hightower, who was played to perfection by Bubba Smith was a recently retired NFL football player. He was notouriuos for being the biggest, baddest, meanest, defensive lineman in the league when he played. Just like Alex Karris before him who played Mongo in Blazing Saddles Being a Honda Civic driver at the time which was basically a tin can on wheels, I loved it when he tore out the front seat so he could fit into the car.

I’m not nearly as big as Bubba was, but I’m still fairly large. A friend had a 79 Civic hatchback with a 4 speed manual transmission. He asked me to move it around the block for him once. The idea for this movie came when the producer, Paul Maslansky, worked on THE RIGHT STUFF and needed many cops for a scene. The state provided them with cadets from the Police Academy. When they arrived on their busses, Maslansky noticed that they "didn't look like cops". They were big, small, old, very young, fat, and too thin. The present Police Captain smiled and told him: "We have to accept them as applicants, but nothing says that we must pass them".

Gotta have a little bit for everyone. The humor is mostly so childish that kids love it. Always a love connection or three. Some adult humor and nudity that can be edited out for television releases. Some really great music in a lot of the films too. A few sports jokes and cultural references and you have a hit. Storyline wasn't always a priority in the '80s.

I could direct you to hundreds of examples, but I will just say that cops used to require more education. They used to require some education usually in the field of criminal justice. Some cops had 4 year degrees and while the worked got their Law degree and became lawyers. Right around 9/11 we started lowering the requirement and hiring any former soldier. Commandant Lassard at the podium getting mystery head was the funniest scene for e. The facial reactions were great. I love at the end , Jen says, the music was her favorite part. That does not say much for the movie itself. haha

Good looking out for watching this movie because it is still one of my most favorite ones from the 80s. When this movie was released on March 23, 1984, in the US, I was 6 going on 7 years old in the second grade. I probably shouldn't have watched this and lot of stuff back then at that age, but I did. A lot of kids watched this movie and the others, especially since there was a Police Academy cartoon a few years later in 1988. I believe I somehow seen this movie on HBO or VHS first even though I don't remember exactly when, but I've seen them on both. That's because it took about 1 to 2 years for movies to make it to VHS and sometimes longer for television in the 80s. The movies would premiere on Cable TV before regular tv. Anyway, those were the days. I hope you continue to watch the sequels, at least up to Police Academy 4. Good day. 👍

11:38 "I feel like this guy's gonna go crazy like- like a _Full Metal Jacket_ thing." Oh, no. Well, first, bear in mind that this movie is a comedy. Moments like that don't happen in comedies. _Full Metal Jacket,_ though, is a war drama. Second, bear in mind that this is about training at a _police_ academy. The part of _Full Metal Jacket_ to which you are referring takes place at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina; two _very_ different environments that train people for _very_ different kinds of work. Third, bear in mind that Tackleberry is a _volunteer._ Lawrence was a _conscript_ who did not have the option to _resign._ Fourth, bear in mind that Lawrence snapped because he couldn't take life as a Marine and Uncle Sam couldn't see the sense in sending him home. Tackleberry, though, is a veteran. He's a gun nut, but he's a _responsible_ gun nut. What's more, he's a badass. No, Tackleberry's not in danger of snapping.

8:11 he’s better than my wife’s calculus 1 prof. He would stand facing the board while he lectured, writing with his right hand and erasing what he wrote with the left. Hard part for my wife, she had had no exposure to calculus in high school (as most of us at Georgia Tech had) so she was trying hard to learn. The only reason she passed was he was on a probation quarter so he had to pass everyone or risk losing his tenure.

0:32 Yeah, that's pretty much the state of the U.S. Police Force currently (too many of them, at least). 1:06 Frankie Says Relax 2:06 Michael Winslow was also widely known in Stand-Up circles back in the day, largely because of these skills. 3:12 There were eight when I lost count, but they're unwatchable after the third. 6:16 I'm crap with guessing ages, but I'm assuming Jen is decades younger than me. That being said, she really understands the assignment when it come to 80's movies.🍈🍈 7:00 Yup, that's the same guy, and yup, that was Spaceballs. You gotta love a Nerd Girl, they work stuff out beautifully quickly.😻 9:59 Standard Police Issue would have been a .38. 10:05 That might be a .44 (with experimental exploding rounds). 13:09 Jen knows The Classics, and that's what I appreciates about her. 20:58 I've said it before and I'll say it again...Fruit is Evil.
