But I'm not sure in Florida if that's a misdemeanor or felony. It is however, a felony to possess a firearm while being intoxicated by alcohol or drugs and or to be in possession of illegal drugs.

He didn't directly try to kill anyone, he tried to get away. Yes this is one of the very few cases where the cops are actually justified in their actions, he did put their lives in danger but he didn't try to kill anyone.

Read the crime section of your local newspaper if you want some entertainment. It was the 1/2 lb of weed and the scale (felony possession with intent) he had in the vehicle.
