Kevin gets on the buses and trains to move around and hit different stores randomly so as to attempt to avoid being recognized by LP in the stores. What doesn’t sit right with me Is that the officer that took the suspect to the ground seemed to be making the entire thing more so about why he took the suspect down and not about the shoplifting… when he explained it to his superior, it was all about why he took the suspect down. when he questioned the suspect, his very first question wasn’t about shoplifting, but was about why he “tensed up”… when he let him go, he didn’t say anything about “don’t shoplift.” He made sure to bring up to “cooperate when in handcuffs” …almost as if he knew he had used excessive force, and was trying to cover his butt for it… and then to charge the kid with obstruction when there is literally no evidence of a struggle other than the fact that he took the guy to the ground… he really seems like he’s trying to cover up that he used excessive force and was trying to gather as much evidence on camera as possible that he was justified in using force… and I think that the kid just went along with it because he was afraid …i’d be interested in seeing this officer’s disciplinary record…

@RealNyeTheScienceGuy You're absolutely right - this guy is not having a great time today, or yesterday, or last week, month, year... I hope he gets the support he needs to move forward with his life. Watching this from northern Europe is frankly terrifying though and I think the future for Kevin might not be too bright. Not to politicise, argue, or attack of course, but our prison system and that of our neighbours is as opposite as can be from the USA one. We only send people there as an _absolute_ last resort, and everything is there meant about rehabilitation. Of course there has to be punishment if someone does a crime, but the punishment is that you're in the prison, can't go home, party, travel, things like that. Everyone gets a nice room with a cosy bed, desk, chair, storage, big window with no bars, fresh air, nice view with grass, river, trees _(or just fcuking snow everywhere and it's cold)._ There's a phone and a PC with different privileges, but most earn internet access and free phone access etc. Healthcare mental and physical, the food is very good, school lessons or you can do a degree. Life skills everything from how to brush your teeth and take a shower, how to budget your money, use the laundry, get a job, rent a house, pensions, everything. Then you can learn to cook, draw pictures, go outside and learn to mend a sheep, drive a car, everything. It's why we have after five years a recidivism rate of less than one in ten, where in the USA the same rate is more than nine in ten.

How does someone with his mental health problems get help? Social work needs more funding, otherwise people like him that think he is being kidnapped and organs removed that are stealing toiletries just to get by will eventually land in jail. Trying to get him into some kind of program seems like the way to handle this, but I'm not sure how it would work. Does society just wait for him to commit a big enough crime to land him in jail and allow these prisons to collect more and more tax dollars or is there a better way?

I'm sure there is but it's few n far between. And a lot falls on the individuals as well. Unfortunately, unless he has health care, or someone actively advocates for him, he’ll end up in and out of jail or he’ll be a dead statistic in the paper. When they closed the mental health care facilities, they took away the last place folks like him might get help. Don’t be too hard on why they closed them though. Many patients ended up dead from lack of real care; seriously harmed from unorthodoxed physicians performing nasty procedures and just serious understaffing. This is quite sad. Kevin is obviously in some sort of mental health crisis. Why can’t the officers take him to a facility where he can get help? I will answer my own question, the police department probably doesn’t have the resources to handle situations like this. A prime example why we need mental health professionals available to work in the police department so they can assist with people like Kevin. I hope somehow, someway he gets the help he needs so he can live a happy, healthy and safe life!

Its very likely he is suffering psychosis from long term meth use. The way he moves, speaks and behaves is very similar to what you see in homeless addicts. 6-7 minutes in, and it's clear this young man has been experiencing psychosis, likely episodic, and he's right in the age range for schizophrenia as well, which would be high on my list of suspected mental illnesses to explore for him, poor guy. He's absolutely sincere in his story about the police, mental health facility, and worrying about having lost a kidney, afraid of a conspiracy- he isn't lying. It's a delusion of course, woven into reality where it sounds as though he needed to be held due to having an episode, but his factured mind is trying to make sense of it, while not accurately able to perceive reality properly or lay down accurate memories. The word salad, but the delusions, the voices, conspiracy and paranoia are classic symptoms for showing up especially in young men in their late teens to early/mid-twenties.

Yeah cops have learned crying foul gets extra charges even if the foul was faked so obviously. It's all just a phony play.

He should challenge that "obstruction" charge. There was none The cop just wanted to knock him down. "Tensing up" is obstruction Bologny

He resisted. Once that happens the cops usually will take you down. Simple.

I love how the video say's "He is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law." No, I don't need a court to tell me what to think about the video I just saw, thank you. He looks pretty guilty from where I'm sitting.

maybe he was under the influence, but we know for sure that he's unfortunately going through mental health issues. decisions made in that state of mind rarely make sense. the cop eye rolling and yawning in the back was being a horse's ass. this poor kid really believes some bad things happened to him whether it's true or not.

It made me incredibly sad to see him walk off alone in the rain. I sincerely hope he finds help somewhere.

They don’t care if they’re caught, 9 times our of 10 no police are there to confront/arrest them and shop staff have to let them leave. No consequence.
