Hi Jimmy, you were talking about visibility, including under the nosecone. What I was thinking, is maybe just normal mirrors like the motorhome had. And at the rear and under the nose a wide-angle camera for a better view. And is it an idea to mound the screens in such a position that it looks stock? What do you think?

as a retired trucker doing oversize and heavy haul If all else fails you may be able to get a trip permit and use pilot cars as escort's to get to where you want to go and back and then finish doing what you need to do to make it legal for on the road use .truck mirrors would be a good start for your visibility issues .as to the front overhang from the chassis ? maybe an extension of the chassis would work .after all you are just modifying the upper structure of a motor home .

Serious suggestion. Trailer hitch attached to the front, tow by truck to the venue, and once there, "drive" if you want on the private showground. Your well within 'shipping container on a trailer' dimensions, and you can hook up the air lines so that the "trailer" has it's own independent brakes. It's a doable workaround, or at least a nice plan B.

I use to be a Trucker, I think it would be best to tow this as a trailer. You can rent a truck and tow it, that way you won't have people blowing horns as you etc. as you can put a tarp over it. Trucks are made for hauling all that weight, RV's have mushy suspension, might be hard to drive and hard to keep in one lane. Good Luck...

Jimmy drop the body down onto the frame more. Steel or aluminum c-channel inside the body of the jet. Lowering it will make it more stable. Mirrors from a semi tractor will work.. I love all of the work that you do.. get it registered as an RV. If you still have the vin plate and title from the RV you could use that.

normally such a request would be to hand-ball it off to another department to avoid the headache, however because of the Elvis factor/history, this nice officer probably said he can maybe help but would have to inspect it 1st solely for the Elvis factor. He cdnt wait to board the plane to see how it was decked out. i love it

You're not making Oshkosh by highway under its own power. You will need an extended front bumper, rear bumper with body skirts attached to the plane extending down below the RV frame, headlights, marker, tail lights, and mud flaps. You will not have enough time to execute making those modifications working around the clock and getting a CDL certification for roadworthyness.
@miloswanson9646
@miloswanson9646 2 ай бұрын
CDL is NOT required for an RV, so why would one be required for a RV chassis with a different 'body' bolted to it???
@mikebarushok5361
@mikebarushok5361 2 ай бұрын
@@miloswanson9646 A CDL could easily be required if they believe it is intended to take passengers for hire. Or any other reason it seems like a commercial vehicle to the authorities.

Small detail, but it’s pretty cool that 40 year old water appears to be potable. Probably treated with Purogene, which is used to keep potable water sanitized in aircraft systems. Use it in my RV water system.

Jimmy, you are most likely going to have fenders installed and mud flaps on the back to prevent road debris from striking other vehicles. You have done a great job on this conversion

The newest fancy semi trucks don’t even have mirrors they use a camera system for the front and rear. That might help on the issues about vision in the cockpit.

That is an awful looking setup. They have stuck it on top of the chassis. I thought they would have cut the bottom of the fuse out and lowered it over the chassis. Waste of time and money.

Hey Jimmy. I have worked in food retail for 27 years, and during that time I have seen the Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile several times at events and it is made from an Airplane and attached to a 1 ton GM chassis and it is 100% street legal and it travels all over the U.S. I hope this helps out in some way toward getting the Elvis plane street legal.

No DOT glass, no safety mirrors, no clear ingress/egress points, less field of view than a Countach, you can't even tell if you're in you're own lane... This whole video is a potential legal nightmare for you if you get in an accident. Civil and criminal. Seriously, put it on a flatbed and trailer it instead of putting lives at risk.

First of the height of the frame/ bumper is fine. Second you can use camera's for mirrors. Look into some new semi trucks. Some don't even have mirrors anymore. DOT legal. The cone on the front is probably going to be a problem. Good news is you could probably make it removable while in transport/transit. I'm former law enforcement in Florida. I don't remember everything but I remember allot. I also have a cdl. I saw trucks at truck stops with the camera's and no mirrors. Love you're chanel. Any questions just ask.

I love it If all else fails Jimmy, you could convert a 18 wheeler trailer and put it on top like you did with the RV chassis, with a nice same year vintage 18 wheeler pulling it. For instance a 1962 Supercharged Mack B-77 Semi Tractor 💡

Hey Jimmy.... my wife's late uncle used to be the Florida state attorney, Robert Nabors was his name (uncle Bob to us). He used to work on the principal of unless it specifically says you can not then you can. He pushed the envelope quite hard in his career using that principal. I miss that guy, he was quite a character. We inherited his 1959 red Morris Minor when he passed a few years back.

Jimmy ... First, please stay away from balloons! They're not that controllable and seem to be drawn to electrical wires! I really enjoy your channel and especially your quest to get the hybrid Elvis jet and motor home legally on the road. I grew up in Upstate New York and post junior college went on to attend Florida State, where I received my BS in Communications. Point well-taken about the heat, but especially the humidity which is absolutely oppressive and wilting for several months. At FSU, I typically showered 2-3 times per day, during the hottest months, in an attempt to stay cool! It's too bad you couldn't remove the nose radome (and stow it at the rear of the fuselage), since it appears the motor home bumper mounting brackets closely vertically align with where the front of the fuselage ends, and the nose radome attaches. All the best ... and stay safe! God Bless!
