Trooper's Narrative:
On Monday, June 3, 2024, at approximately 9:39 am, I was patrolling Interstate 555 southbound near mile marker 46. I
observed a white Nissan Versa in front of me and learned that the vehicle was uninsured after running the license plate through
ACIC. I activated my overhead blue lights to initiate a traffic stop at mile marker 46. The Nissan Versa took the exit and
continued over the overpass on Woodspring's Road. At this point, the vehicle was traveling only at around 45-50 mph. We
continued southbound on Parker Rd at a normal rate of speed, but the driver still refused to pull over. We stopped at the red
light facing south on Parker with the intersection of Southwest Drive. I exited my patrol car and commanded the driver to pull
into the parking lot to her right. The driver did not comply, and when traffic started moving again, she accelerated across
Southwest Drive and onto the southbound ramp to I-555. I advised over the radio that I was now pursuing the vehicle.
At 9:43 am, I attempted to do a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) on the vehicle, and it left the roadway into the ditch on the
west side of the on-ramp. The driver was able to drive the vehicle out of the ditch and continued south on the Interstate,
reaching speeds of over 100 mph. At 9:45 am, I attempted a second tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) on the passenger side of
the Nissan Versa. As I was setting up to conduct the TVI, the driver hit her brakes, causing me to collide with her vehicle in a
side-swipe action. I applied my brakes, and at that time, I attempted the TVI, which resulted in the vehicle going into the
concrete wall on the right side of the road. After the TVI, I started fishtailing, going towards the wire barrier. At the same time,
the Nissan Versa was coming back towards me, causing me to go into the wire barrier with the driver's side of my patrol
vehicle. The vehicle came to its final rest, facing back north in the southbound lanes. I approached the vehicle with my gun
drawn and then dragged the driver out of the passenger side of the vehicle. I was able to place the driver into custody and call
for an ambulance.
The vehicle's driver was transported to St. Bernard's, where she was medically cleared before being jailed at
Craighead County Detention Center.
Her charges were Felony Fleeing, Reckless Driving, and No Liability Insurance. She also
had a Jonesboro warrant carrying a $10,000 bond (Cash Only).
During the tactical vehicle intervention (TVI), my patrol car sustained damage to the driver's side of the vehicle caused by the
cable barrier in the median. Restitution for the damaged patrol vehicle will be requested. Estimates for the damage were
approximately $16,720.94. Nothing further at this time.
