80 years ago today, September first 1939, Nazi Germany kicked of world war II with their invasion of Poland followed later by the USSR. The Poles fought hard until the bitter end, causing their invaders to destroy Warsaw and crack down fiercely on any resistance of the occupiers of Poland. Throughout the war, Poland aided the allies in many ways from troops outside their homeland joining allied armies to spying and sabotage. As the Third Reich was being pushed back on the eastern front by the soviets, Polish Resistance members took to the streets to fight against the Nazi's, told that the Soviets would join them and aid them. The Soviets did nothing, holding back until the resistance was slaughtered and only then marching in, being sure to install a communist government as to keep Poland under their control once the war was over. Today Poland stands strong and powerful, never again at the mercy of invaders wishing to partition it once more. long live Poland

I'm Canadian and my hometown of Owen Sound Ontario was chosen by the Polish Government in Exile and the Canadian Government in WW2 to be the site of a training camp for Polish immigrants from Canada, America and even some from Cuba, to serve in the Polish army in Europe. They fought and some died at Monte Cassino among their fellow Poles from the old country. My Grandparents live a short walk away from the outdoor shooting range where they trained.
