Saw these videos. Nice.:)) Street food snack would probably be zapiekanka in Warsaw too, but next time you are in Warsaw I would recommend to you to try rosół with home made noodles at Mistrz i Małgorzatka bar, 149 Czerniakowska Street. The place is owned by a marathon runner and is quite "rough" inside but it offers simply excellent food at very reasonable prices. It is absolutely safe, despite of all the frequent guests drinking vodka there. It may be overowded by football fans during matches at the Legia stadium. If you happen to come before 18:00 hours, there was also a bar mleczny Na Czerniakowskiej, in a house No. 143a, but I am not sure if it still works as the owner kept talking about closing down his business some time ago. Smacznego!

Krakow... Miasto gdzie spedzilem moje pierwsze 32 lata zycia przed wyjazdem do USA. (Z powodu jaruzela-bohatera prl'u) Az mi sie serce kroi jak ogladam zagranicznych turystow podziwiajacych to krolewskie miasto. Niesamowite jakie zmiany zaszly w ciagu 40+ lat w Krakowie. Obawiam sie ze bede bardzo zaskoczony w przyszlym roku kiedy odwiedze ulice Szewska 16 gdzie mieszkalem...

I absolutely love Poland!!! I went on a mission trip in 2018. Krakow was my favorite city. We went to several different places. Poland is definitely underrated. I hope to go back someday. There food is amazing & there people are even more. Blessings from Oklahoma 💜💜💜 Make sure you try Salmon perigee.

10:00 Oscypek (pronounced Osch-öpeck, Polish plural: oscypki), rarely Oszczypek, is a smoked cheese made of salted sheep milk exclusively in the Tatra Mountains region of Poland. Oscypek is made by an expert named "baca", a term also denoting a shepherd in the mountains. The cheese is a traditional holiday cheese in some European countries and is often pan fried and served with cranberry jam (żurawina) on the side.A similar cheese is made in the Slovak Tatra Mountains under the name oštiepok. The cheeses differ in the ratio of their ingredients, the cheesemaking process and the characteristics of the final product. Oscypek needs to be made from at least 60% sheep's milk, and must weigh between 60 and 80g and measure between 17 and 23cm. It can only be produced between late April to early October, when the sheep used is fed on fresh mountain grass.Oscypek is made using salted sheep's milk, with the addition of cows' or goats' milk strictly regulated by the protected recipe. Unpasteurized salted sheep's milk is first turned into cottage cheese, which is then repeatedly rinsed with boiling water and squeezed. After this, the mass is pressed into wooden, spindle-shaped forms in decorative shapes. The forms are then placed in a brine-filled barrel for a night or two, after which they are placed close to the roof in a special wooden hut and cured in hot smoke for up to 14 days The first mention of cheese production in the Tatra Mountains dates back to the 15th century, in a document from the village of Ochotnica in 1416. The first recorded recipe for Oscypek was issued in 1748 in the Żywiec area. There's an amazing salt mine in the hills just outside of Krakow. A lot of the chambers inside the mine have been sculpted into various art pieces, including a grand ballroom!

Oh yes, Polish food is generally very awesome. No comparison to the crap we are being fed here in the US. Basically all of Europe has stellar food for the most part. Wish I could teleport right now...

What are you talking about? I am an expat living in Poland now. The food is very plain and simple. The most common recipes they have here consist of the same thing, boiled potatoes, cabbage, and carrots. If it is a meat, normally a well breaded pork chop. Perogies are okay, but they are just dumplings and Chinese are the best at that. The beef here is waaaaay overpriced. US food is so better than Polish food. I will admit their pork chop is typically a fatter cut and I do enjoy their kompot drink. Other than that, there is nothing delicious about Polish food.

Your cooking is so bad that Polish prison hospitals discard your cooking as inedible. Your cooking is so bad that you can make billy goat puke. And the sad thing is, you are the best cook in your family.

6:40 Phil gets it right, zapiekanka on Plac Nowy is typical pub crawl food. Also, I`m seriously impressed how you travel - you make a lot of research, take your time in the place, go to less frequently visited places (Kopiec Kraka - nice touch, love this place).

Used to live in Krakow, still visit it for 3-4 times a year, going again in 3 weeks. Go there visiting friends, but also enjoying the city and food. Absolutely love the city and people. Pierogi is my number one, but they hate the way I eat it, briefly pan fried with maggi.

Thanks for visiting my Krakow - I was born here and have been living here for almost 50 years, it's great that you liked it and it tasted so good ;) One note - rose jam is - if it is real - it's home made jam, from a petals of a specific species of wild rose and sugar. It has a very characteristic smell and taste - for me, it"s definnitely the taste of the childhood. My family in a half cames from todays Ukraine after the World War II and my aunts and grandma always made this jam at home and added to sweet buns with some poppy on it... BTW, the fruits of the same species of roses are also used to make some juices and wine ;)

Zapiekanka is super easy to make: you just cut the baguette, cover it with fried champignons and cheese and bake it shortly in the oven (untill cheese melts~ 15-20 minutes). + ketchup! That's the very basic one- the only one available during comunism (at least at the end phase of comunism- I was born 79';) And traditional pierogi's filling is sauerkraut and mushrooms, cottage chees and potato (ruskie) and minced meat and sweet: cottage chees or blueberrys! Almost all the others are just a modern inventions...;p

@@magdalenawilka5452 oh I don't think so - in my home many of dumplingd was sweet - with stawberries, plums, apples served with white sweet cream. No at the same time of course. BTW it sad, no one said about definitelly polish dishses as leniwe, kopytka, knedle, lane kluski and macarony with white sweet cheese or strawberies ;) both with sweet cream ;)

I am german and I love Krakauer. Just be careful when they are hot. They have little fat pockets that sometimes burst out when you bite into them and literally cook the inside of your mouth

Here is the thing, I am Polish who's living in Germany and German version of what we call krakauer and this sausage Deana and Phil are eating has nothing to do with oryginal polish krakauer. Hi Deana and Phil. Thank you for your sevice. Food eating service I mean:). Regarding kiełbasa, there is no kiełbasa sausage. Kiełbasa just means sausage in Polish, like Wurst in German, just a general name of kind of food. We have a lot of different kinds of kiełbasa, hundreds of them if not thousands. They are made of meat, fat and spices and they consist of chunks of those ingredients. The parówki however, which are made of fine ground and emulgated meat, often of ham, are not usually called kiełbasa, as they are not considered to be the real kiełbasa and of course they must never be grilled but only cooked in water. If you want to try some very good Polish kiełbasa kinds, you may go to the good cold cuts shop and ask for kiełbasa jałowcowa (juniper smoked) and kiełbasa myśliwska (hunters sausage, hardwood smoked). You are never supposed to grill, cook or fry these two kinds, just slice them thinly and eat them with bread rolls with butter. Smacznego! And all the best to you both!

My family's ancestral homelands from Krakow to Lviv. Even through we are Americans that we still make the traditional foods from the region. Dill is the top spice in Slavic cuisine.

This is a famous food spot. A manifestation of Polish resourcefulness from the early 1990s. It is a sausage from the blue Nysa (Nysa delivery van from the times of communism). Krakow sausage is something else. It's a thick sausage made of pork ham with large pieces of meat, smoked and dried. Perfect when you cut it thinly and put it on sandwiches. Dry or semi-dry is best.

"Kiełbasa sausage" is like "salsa sauce". Kiełbasa is sausage in English, so you say sausage sausage. There are many types of sausages in Poland and each has its own name. "Krakowska, Powawelska, Śląska, Wiejska, Lisiecka, Myśliwska, Jałowcowa, etc." Different types of sausages have different uses.

To trochę nie tak w świadomości obcokrajowców dla nich kiełbasa, to nazwa własna. Nie jest to kiełbasa kiełbasa. Wiem co mówię mieszkam na tak zwanym zachodzie blisko 50 lat. Kiełbasa to takie określenie jak włoskie prosciutto, choć jest też w cholerę rodzai ale ludzie kojarzą to jako włoska szynka i tyle. Co mnie cieszy , to to że kiełbasa się wyodrębniła i nie jest takim tłumaczeniem jak ty poroponujesz.

Ja jestem tego świadomy, jednak wynika to z niewiedzy i ignorancji. Twoje podejście raczej przyzwala na pogłębianie tego typu problemów. Oczywiście "marketingowo" określanie tego produktu jako "kiełbasa" lub "kiełbasa sousage" jest lepsze niż "polish sousage", ale nadal jest to trochę malowaniem trawy na zielono. A co gorsza prowadzi do dalszych problemów i dalszego zawężenia oglądu rzeczywistości. Przykładowo kiełbasa krakowska, czy będzie to "kielbasa krakowska sousage", czy może "krakowska sousage sousage", a może idąc pierwotnym tropem "kiełbasa krakowska cracow sousage"? :) Tego typu problemy wiać nawet w komentarzach do tego filmiku, choćby u Niemców, którzy produkują od XIX w. Your videos are really amazing! I think people underestimate the amount of work you put into researching the culinary traditions of each country visit as well as finding these local foods. I appreciate all the work that goes behind the scenes. I’m very intrigued by the pierogies in Poland. I think pierogies is a food that we North Americans have never truly appreciated because we’ve never had them like in Poland. Thanks again for this wonderful video.😊

Krakauer wurst ( kielbasa krakowska) you can buy in every supermarket in Poland. It is one of the most popular in Poland.

In Krakow, on Meiselsa Street, there is a Georgian restaurant called "Tibilisi", where the best Georgian food in Krakow is served. As a half-Georgian, I recommend it. Greetings from Wieliczka👋

Pączki z różą are filled with wild rose fruits marmaladeild. In English this plant it is probably dog rose (in Latin Rosa canina). It's sort of the default flavor.

I was born in Krakow but grew up on Canada. Love all these foods though I haven’t tried paczki with pistachios. The traditional ones and the ones i like the best are the ones with plum filling or the rose. Zapiekanka - cheese snd mushroom with ketchup on top is a must. Obwarzanki - that’s how they are made. They are supposed to be hard on the outside and softer on the inside. I love them. Especially the ones with salt, sesame or poppy seeds. That smoked cheese with cranberry sauce is my favorite, and not to mention the kielbasa sausage. Also good with beer on the side. ❤

Oscypek ist geräucherter Schafskäse, wird vor der Ausgabe gegrillt und meistens mit einer Cranberry Marmelade serviert. Ich liebe es, zu sehen wie begeistert ihr von diesem Essen seid und ja es macht mich stolz, dass mein Land so gutes Essen und so guten Geschmack hat❤❤❤ . Zapiekanki ist einfach ein Klassiker; immer gut, immer frisch, nicht sehr raffinierte Zutaten aber diese Kombi war schon immer ein Muss, wenn man die polnische Grenze betreten hat oder als Student oder Schüler lecker und günstig Essen wollte 😋🤓. Es ist definitv ratsam vor Euren Vlogs aus Polen erstmal was gegessen zu haben ❤😂.

You can buy real oscypek cheese only from a dozen or so certified farms in Podhale. This is a product protected by the EU. It must be sheep cheese from sheep grazing in the Tatra Mountains. What they ate was Feta from Germany or Poland.😉😉😉

I really have been enjoying your visit to the different cities/towns of Poland and sharing the food. I want that first donut-like baked item that has pistachios! But there were many others that I would want to try too. The soup with the edible container makes me think of Panera Bread Co which has soup inside their bowl made out of bread. I visit relatives in Poland.. Aunt in Lublin. Cousins in Warsaw. Lots of relatives in the Tatra mountains....the highlanders....Beautiful country.

I remember that market hall in the central square. We stayed at a hostel in the vincinity for several days during a Johannes Passion concert tour. Did our last gig of this tour in Krakow. I think it was in 2005. And we also spent a day at the concentration camp. Not an organised tour, but a couple of history students among us set up a walking tour of the site.

About the rose feeling of doughnats it is, rosehip jam/briar rose jam, which in Polish sounds like "wild rose" It is the most traditional flavor of doughnuts. Some likes it some dont - like with everything in life ;)

You guys do the best food tours on KZfaq. The way you describe the tastes you experience is excellent. As a kid in the Northeast of England, my mum would send me to the local shop to buy ‘frying cheese’ which she would then fry in a pan. Never seen it anywhere else in Britain or the USA where I live now, anywhere in Europe, Australia or NZ until your programme. Great memories. 3:24 I have never heard about that kind of soup so it is not a typical Polish thing. Mushrooms soup would be. But you are right that beet root is sort of a thing in a traditional cousin here. But mostly as a salad or soup (which you guys had in Warsaw). And when it comes to doughnuts, wild (dog) rose fruit jam is actually the most common - standard filling for Polish doughnut (pączek) 17:42 yes, dill is a Polish thing, too. You can find it easily in dips, or as a decorations (and sort of spice) to the full dishes, there is even a dill soup, too

I recently just found an Aldi supermarket here in Fergus, Falls, Minnesota United States, to which I found knoppers my favorite wafer candy and Vintersnant my favorite Christmas candy. Auschwitz-Birkenau is in Oświęcim not in Kraków. Still I am very proud that even tourists are coming there to see this place and to honor those who where there during the WW2. It's good that epole from other countries are not only visiting those colorful, friendly places but also ones with so tragic history.

Hey! Obwarzanek from 14:30 isnt any softer in the morning (well maybe like tiny bit) It is exactly how it should be, so hard to chew and super dry, i dont fancy them, but i used to love them as a kid, also they sell them on a piece of string so you kinda hold it like a big eatable neckles (as a kid) haha!

Love the video (actually, the whole series). The general selection of food you have is also great, showcasing some of the standards in our cuisine. I would have a few comments - Stara Pączkarnia has great donuts, although they are less traditional and more modern and fancy (still a great snack). Zapiekanki - there is a rough opinion on them here in Krakow; yes, they will fill you up and are especially favored by people partying in Kazimierz, but truth be told - no local person will crave them enough to go to the city center and just buy them. There are way better street food items or options available. Pierogi - commonly referred to as the Polish national dish - are also not often eaten by locals these days, I presume. And you missed the real Polish dish (truly available only in this country), which is sour rye soup (żurek). Amazingly, you were in Katowice in Żurownia, and the name is already hinting at what their specialty is. Kulebele are amazing there, but you should try żurek as well!

The smoked cheese with bacon n cranberries is a traditional Highlander sheep cheese called oszczypek … the mountain area of Poland is very well known for those delicious cheeses yum 😋 I’m jealous I want some zapiekanka i oszczypek oh that’s my home you’re visiting:))) 🇵🇱

In Poland we are making jam from rosé paddles. But it’s very expensive so you can taste the real 💯 rose jam in only few places or inside the houses. My mom makes that kind of jam and it’s delicious

A typical street food characteristic for only Krakow is Maczanka Krakowska, which can also be bought in the Jewish quarter at Judah Food Market (Świętego Wawrzyńca Street 16), but in a place called "Andrus Maczanka Po Krakowsku". You missed it. "Kiełbasa" means "sausage" so we have many kinds of kiełbasa in Poland. You ate only one kind of Polish sausage/kiełbasa.

You can make your own zapiekanki at home in oven 🤌🏼 You have to buy baguette and any kind of cheese and ingredients you like, and of course garlic sause 🤤

My brother collected pigeons where I grew until going to 6 th grade . They are beautiful , they were tagged by him and always came back. Beautiful , and intelligent birds . I wish people would respect them through the history they were used a war messengers .

I don't think you have real Polish doughnuts in America. Whenever someone shows Polish food in America I get the impression that it's never even been next to a real Polish dish. The basis of good food is very good quality ingredients. And America is known for healthy vegetables, fruit and produce that is very expensive and the rest is some kind of fake. The dishes in turn taste artificial, with lots of sugar, salt and fat. Then when Americans come to Europe they think at first that nothing tastes good.

We also have all natural ingredients in every food store in the entire country if you want to buy higher quality it is there. We are also one of the biggest producers of fruits and vegetables in the world.

@@Rene_Moor3095no, we don’t have Polish donuts in America. Donuts are typical American product and are made different way than paczki. We have plenty of paczki in hundreds of Polish stores and on fat Tuesday they are also delivered to American supermarkets.
