To answer the question about whether Nixon won on the radio and Kennedy on TV, I watched the debate, then listened to it. On screen, there's no question, Kennedy looked composed and sounded passionate, perfect combination. Nixon looked washed out, and combined with his relative monotonous unction, he sounded weak. But when you take away the picture and listen to the audio only, the impression changes completely. Without Kennedy's visual composure, he sounds like he is trying too hard, almost sweating. Without Nixon's washed out visual, he sounds more composed, sound of judgement, and even presidential.
