Daily Mail full-page editorial headlined ‘ ‘Hurrah for the Blackshirts’ in January 1934. The story, bylined to Viscount Rothermere, praised Mosley for his “sound, common sense, Conservative doctrine." Beyond the pale, utterly disgraceful.

You should read Ken Follet's trilogy about WWI, WWII and the Cold War. It is set around factual events, but in fiction/novel format, and it is clear that the Daily Mail has not changed it's xenophobic, jingoistic, shit-stirring craziness, since its inception. The same loony headlines we get now, were appearing before and during WWI, between the wars, during WWII and on and on since.

I personally think that Sunak's government is aware of their election chances. It just feels like it would take a trumpian degree of separation from reality for them to think they had a good enough chance that they could pull these unpopular moves. If you consider that they may believe that they will lose the next election then I feel one of the easiest theories to arrive at is that these are moves to shore up long term donations from certain industries, or possibly ensure a nice job after leaving politics.

For the seven bins thing: there are some councils that do six - black, food, paper, plastic, glass, metal - but thats still not seven. Did he pick that number specifically to avoid all real world cases?

A few councils have the option to put out a few random items in bags for collections eg clothing, batteries, small electronics, coffee pods. Although not in bins, those are all bag collections.. also garden waste is often collected separately to food waste if possible, as food waste has to be processed to animal byproduct regulations whereas garden waste doesn’t (and is much cheaper to process)

A small correction on Ava's claim of China not having a Climate policy because they do. They say that their goal is to be Carbon Neutral by 2070 and they made that promise last year at COP and they said it because, they explained a simple reality: "We have everybody's industries here and that's why we need more time. But, we're committed to achieving Carbon Neutrality and are working towards it in a planned and structural way." They produce 60% of all green energy, have the single largest reforesting project (The Great Green Wall), greening the Gobi desert to farmland (which about 15% of China, the other 15% is the Western desert), they invest heavily in public transport you can take a high speed train from every corner of the country to the other side of the country for a reasonable price and they're actually trying to achieve cold nuclear fusion. They also set up a system where you buy locally produced veg and gets shipped to your house on the cheap (means less large shipping emissions). In other words they are doing a lot more than countries like the U.K and my country (the Netherlands) eventhough historically and currently they' have emitted and still are emmitting way less per person than we in "the West" are.
