It will have to consider cost of roof over heads, health (diabetes and heart) prevention, preschool, nursery, education for a thinking society that can flex what it does to make a living and handle complexity and responsibility. Some policies and decisions will offend the broad brush left; most will make life more difficult for the relatively well off left and will test their determination to vote for justice and fairness; almost all will make life difficult for the well off inheritors of wealth. Over 30 years I worked for 4 different fire authorities. London was one where I worked in the Central area. Since then, off the 10 stations in my area 3 were closed by Boris Johnson, and the other 7 had the number of crews reduced. The public lost the availability of 8 fully trained crews from the closed stations and a further 11 crews from the remaining stations, a total of more than 20 crews from a very busy part of London. And, as far as I am aware, a similar situation occurred in the other parts of the London Fire Brigade. In a County Brigade crews have been drastically reduced by a Conservative Council. None of this was aimed at improving response times and improving the service to the public, just to save money. I am not surprised that the FBU is asking members to consider strike action, as sensible negotiations appear to be a thing of the past.

The main reason it is actually responsible however is future planning, which you can think of as this simple question.
