The sad fact of the matter is, the majority of people are comfortable, and less than half the population are in dire straits. People aren't suffering enough right now to even contemplate not going to work, as that could result in dismissal. Community has been eroded, the family unit has also been eroded, and I witnessed it happen over the last 15 years in real time.
