Suella sacked after unleashing far-right on the Cenotaph, and David Cameron returns | Pubcast #29

After a completely average day in Westminster politics, Oli and Ava record a special episode of the Pubcast for you all.
Suella Braverman's attempt to start a race war over the weekend failed miserably and was the final nail in her coffin. We react to how poorly thought out her last week as Home Secretary was.
Suella's sacking kickstarted a reshuffle which saw the resurrection of the Prime Minister that triggered the last seven years of turmoil in Britain, David Cameron. Not content in getting the job as Foreign Secretary, Cameron was also made a Lord by decree from the King, so he'd be allowed accept Rishi Sunak's job offer.

Cruella is so incompetent, she can't even get stochastic terrorism right! Rounds up a bunch of RWNJs, points them at the Cenotaph. Completely the wrong people, and they attack them! How she managed to hang on to her job for so long is beyond me.

Seeing as how us Brightonians, saw off The EDL, multiple times. In fact so badly, they've not been back since. The year they started the St. George's march, I'd moved back home and knew Yaxley-Lennon by sight (don't ask). They wandered past us on our way into town from my old lady's place. When we got into town, I was approached by Tommeh asking if we knew an appropriate place to drink. I sent them up to our gay skinhead pub, the bouncers are lesbian ladies of great charm and a low tolerance for nonsense. I wish we'd followed them. 😐

This is only to be expected because the status quo has been attacked. I will never say a political figure is honest, only that there is an agenda behind them. What is the agenda behind Suella? This is what we should be asking because, again, political figures have an agenda, and know how to try and get us on their side.

The Tories are running out of ideas for support, they know they’re toast at the next election and the whole patriot right wing rhetoric works well with Brits - I see where the issue is and believe or not I sometimes empathise with them because the right are still people and some of them are suffering through this government like the rest of us but they can’t see who is really creating the problems. Look at America people blindly worship trump because they see a successful guy and he says that he’s their champion and that he can fix all of their problems however we know the truth that he’s in for himself. We need someone who can unify us all and when Suella says that immigration is the issue they listen, the media in this country is heavily biased and when the news and everyone tells you that these people are the reasons things are the way they are they won’t see it any other way and I do believe that loving your country isn’t a bad thing. I’m mixed and I’ve dealt with racism my entire life yet the media tells these people that I want to destroy our traditions because I challenge these things when it’s absolutely not true and other people Are the exactly the same. I hate the Tories with a passion for what they’ve done and I understand they will do anything to drive wedge between us as people to stay in power.

On what I thought was a Friday morning, it wasn't, it was Saturday and I had been supposed to be bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to start filming at 6 that morning. I wasn't a popular boy. Suella was trying to be sacked. Her reason was to then launch a bid against Sunak (in my opinion). Cameron's return took the wind from any such launch. Timing is key in politics and Sunak has taken a lot of the wind from her sails. His move, whatever you think of it, was different. I think from his standpoint it was a clever tactical response. Longer term is another issue and frankly this government does not have much in the longer term left to concern itself with. The big play now is whether the Tory civil war breaks out. I think Sunak knows that his legacy is not going to be winning the next election, but it can be kicking out the nutter extremist/populist right wing.
@DebatingWombat
@DebatingWombat 9 ай бұрын
I don’t think Braverman was aiming for an immediate challenge to Sunak, because that would leave her as an “interlude PM” and land her with the blame for an almost certain and whopping beating at the next election. I think her plan is to be “the Tory internal opposition” and then blame Sunak and his allies for the upcoming Tory defeat, claiming that this would never have happened if the Tories had followed her line instead. Then she’ll challenge Sunak (if he doesn’t simply step down) in the wake of the catastrophic Tory defeat at the polls when only the most extreme zealots in the party can muster any enthusiasm for yet another leadership scrap. Conversely, Sunak probably won’t kick out Braverman and the zealots, because that might turn an already extremely bad electoral situation into an even worse disaster. The fact that Sunak has kept Braverman on until now indicates that he’s not going to get into an open fight with her and the zealots, let alone try to push them out of the Tory Party and thus risking a serious challenge/spoiler run from a “UKIP 2.0”-style competing party to his right, fired up on a revenge ride.

@DebatingWombat I agree with this. Her tactical thinking probably goes something like "the British economy is shit. The Tories will obviously lose the next election. Labour probably won't be able to magic everything right again in five years. There's a non-zero chance that things that really assist recruitment for the Right will increase in Britain over the next five years (ie: uncontrolled migrant flows)."
