Pololu Valley Hike, Hawaiian Pancakes, & Shelter Dog Field Trip | Big Island Day 3

4 жыл бұрынOn our third day on the Big Island, we ventured north to explore more of the Kohala and Hamakua Coast regions. We had MASSIVE pancakes, explored Pololu Valley and Waipio Valley, and ate shave ice, but the highlight of our day was taking a shelter dog out on a field trip! We took Bucky from the Waimea location of Hawaii Island Humane Society and had the best time hiking and cuddling with him. We love you Bucky!

Update on Bucky: He was adopted in Washington!!! 🙌🏼🎉 We’re so happy and hope to run into him someday! A couple things we wanted to mention regarding our Hawaii vlogs: 1. The “Big Island” is officially called the island of Hawaii, but we may refer to it as the “Big Island” from time to time, as it is a more commonly known term worldwide and we want to avoid any confusion by making it clear which island we were on. 2. We likely mispronounced many Hawaiian words, so we apologize in advance. We tried our hardest!

It was one of our favorite things we have ever done! We can’t imagine how stressed the dogs may feel at the shelter, so it was awesome to give him a break. Now if only we could adopt all of the dogs!

I definitely shed a few tears-it was sooo hard! 😭💔 But we are so glad he has a family now! Highly recommend the field trip program if you visit Hawaii!

GOOD NEWS: Big Island Original Shave Ice 🍧 opened a permanent store at Kings’ Shops in Waikoloa Beach Resort. It’s right next to Roy’s Restaurant and is still delicious and super popular!

We really really hope so too! It was a heartbreaking feeling, but he is such a good boy and will find a great family! We have now entered the lush part of the island! It was so pretty!

I hate seeing homeless anything!!! Two legs and 4 but remember we can do something about the 4 legs no pets as Christmas presents it's just stupid!!! The doggie day trip is an excellent program, I am glad you were able to do it. I wish they offered here. It really is a win win for all involved. It gets the dog out of the shelter, the adopt me harness get the dog exposure to the local community that are the target audience to adopt, the dog is getting exercise and an adventure, it reduces the number of animals that the humane society have to care for a couple of hours, and you get to make a new friend and a unique vacation experience. Kudos to whomever came up with the idea. We loved the Waipio Valley and stopped at a macadamia nut company on the way up.

We totally agree on all of those points! It’s truly such a great program and we could tell how happy Bucky was to get some fresh air, lots of love, and a break from the shelter. The harness he wore and backpack I wore were such great ways to promote what we were doing too! We introduced him to lots of people, unfortunately mostly tourists like us, but next time we will want to find some good local spots to hopefully give the doggo lots of exposure to those who have an easier ability to adopt a new friend 🤗

If you guys are still on the Big Island I would highly suggest going down to Green Sand Beach at South Point also make a stop at South Point Cliffs to watch the cliff divers. It is the southern most point of the United States and Green Sand Beach (Papakōlea) is one of the 4 Green Sand Beaches in the World. 4:02 mark in our vacation video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/esV1htNlqra-kWg.html

We have been keeping tabs too! And we went to the green sand beach on our last day (3 videos away!). We went by south point, but no one was jumping when we went. Just lot of people fishing!
