And you thought Led Zeppelin was a rabbit hole; John Fogerty is still performing today! 55 years and counting. His catalog is enormous. Lead guitar and Vocals in CCR. Songwriters HOF. Rock & Roll HOF.

Such a late 1960s sound. This song is 56 years old. CCR's music is generally simple but fun. They are never super technical like Rush or Led Zeppelin, it's more the feel of their songs.

This song was in "Apocalypse Now" with Linda Carter dancing in a USO show. That image always pops into my head with this song. Run thru the jungle , fortunate son or Bad moon rising are good followups.

Not sure if you've reacted to their rendition of "Put A Spell On You" but it is absolutely hypnotic. Blows the original out of the water IMHO

This song came out in 1957 performed by the writer Dale Hawkins. Many have done it but this is one of the best! You should hear their version of Heard It Through the Grapevine.

Amazing! He has that voice AND plays one of the nastiest guitars in rock & roll history.

That change in the vocal quality about halfway through was from Jihn Fogarty singing through a mega-phone. In the early days, a venue might easily have a sound system. To increase volume, the performers would sing through a mega-phone. No electricity is required. 😮

John Fogerty is touring with his two sons. We saw him at Tanglewood recently and it was Creedence Clearwater all night. He played the hell out of their songs, way beyond what he does on the original albums. If his tour comes to your city Keep on Chooglin and don't miss it!

HOW can a man not have heard this song before? Not only is on the radio every once in a while, it is also in countless movies.

My Dad was building a school out in the Pleasanton , CA area and these guys were practicing across the road in a warehouse. He come home and told us at dinner and my older brother flipped his top, then proceeded to go to work with Dad first opportunity. The Bay Area in those days was loaded with so many fabulous musicians - sweet memories

This is a (dare I say) singular and unique band. They always sound like them, but no two songs are the same. I think they will continue to surprise you, Polo. Try "Who'll Stop the Rain" or "Fortunate Son". This song is their only hit that John Fogerty didn't write; this was a cover (originally done in 1957). Creedence' did it 11 years later.

So many memories attached to this band and album.

You have to see the genius scene in Apocalypse Now of a USO performance for American troops in Vietnam including scantily dressed women dancing to Suzie Q. The sheer incongruity and power behind a nation that can parachute an entire stage production into the heart of the Vietnamese jungle feels hair raisingly sinister. The music choice is somehow perfect.

Stick with them and remember how often you catch yourself smiling!!

Hard to believe CCR never had a #1 song.

One of my favorite fogerty stories i read was about how he paid out of his own pocket to have a bunch of old blues players that died poor or broke headstones put in so friends, family , and fans could go visit the graves of these amazing artists. A true music icon in my eyes.

CCR had at least *20 hits* in the space of about 3 short years... just unreal. And two of them (Born on the Bayou and the classic Midnight Special) aren't even on "Chronicle - The 20 Greatest Hits" (the album cover in your video), they saved those for "Chronicle part 2"!

Second concert I ever went to was Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Midsouth Coliseum in Memphis when I was 11 years old. Still not sure exactly how my parents let me go. 🤣 Yeah, Creedence had that southern thang going for a bunch of Northern California boys. Give a listen to Effigy sometime. Not a single, but badass. And keep listening to the hits too!

They put out 7 albums in 4 years, '68 - '72, and then they were done. And a ton of great songs packed into that 4 years. They have a 20 greatest hits album and they're all truly great hits, no skips, 20 greatest hits in a 4 year span.

My favorite CCR song is Born on the Bayou. Nasty guitar and vocals. The best!

The full track is 8 minutes long. You'd really dig that longer jam. And on the 40th anniversary of their debut album, they included a 10-minute live version of this song that is awesome. If you thought "Born on the Bayou" was a one-off, you're in for a wonderful surprise. CCR has the highest slugging percentage of all time. Nearly every song they did is worthy of a reaction, seriously. Try "Penthouse Pauper" and "Bootleg (Alternate Take)", and "The Working Man", "Porterville", "Gloomy", "Walk on the Water".

I heard this song a lot from older brothers when I was 8/9 years old. Somehow this song is one of my favorite CCR tracks. Check out the long version from the Creedence Clearwater Revival album, it has a great extended section that was missing here.❤

Despite the southern swampy sound that they channel on a lot of their tracks, Creedence were actually California boys. There's a really nice documentary about them on Netflix (CCR at the Royal Albert Hall, full of flashbacks and narratives). I was amazed to learn that Fogerty didn't really play guitar until shortly before the band got together and put out their first album. The lack of standard training worked out pretty well, he invented lots of incredible riffs.

Love CCR! One of my favs! Born in ' 65. Had the best music of all time growing up.

As a young man growing up in rural Oregon CCR was our party band... girls, beer and bud in the back of the truck on the river.

Funny thing about CCR being so associated with Southern Rock: they were a bunch of California boys. Want to have your reality altered: Find their (original) version of Proud Mary. That’s not a Tina and Ike song; that’s a CCR song.

Fogherty - with or without CCR is legendary

I was introduced to CCR when my brother came home from Vietnam. He used to stay in his room for hours with CCR cranked up. I was thirteen at the time and found that I liked them, too. My favorite group before CCR was The Monkees!!

My first introduction to CCR was hearing Susie Q on the radio. Commercial radio had just started to play longer cuts & Susie Q was just great to listen to for those extended minutes. Then Born on the Bayou was released & it was even better...

This song was written and first recorded in 1957 by a guy named Dale Hawkins from Louisiana. This version is a very good more polished cover that gave it a more rock sound but keeping the 'swamp boogie' sound that Dale Hawkins pioneered

John Fogerty is one of the greatest, most talented singer-songwriter-composer-instrumentalists of all-time, right up there with Lennon and McCartney; however, Susie Q is one of the few songs he actually didn't write. He WAS CCR, the principal songwriter for nearly all their songs. He was and continues to be a one-man machine! He is a living legend!

Polo, I remember hearing CCR when I was young and thinking what part of the swamp in Louisiana did they crawl out of? We had no internet to look it up. So years later when I found out they were from Northern California I was like WTF!? Their songbook includes so many great tunes. It still draws me back when dad was in Vietnam. 🖖🏼

I had a college roommate who would go running with a walkman plugged into his ears (mid 70s). He said this was a perfect song to run with.

Heard CCR 3x before they broke up. The 1st time I saw them they just released their first hit SusieQ. I was a freshman at SJSU and dating a senior. He always called me SusieQ. The nickname has stuck all of these years! Didn’t find out until recently that John didn’t actually write this. The label told them this would be there first release, so John recorded it by changing it up to the CCR sound. Label didn’t like it, but John threatened to walk away…became a huge hit! My favorite song of theirs is Fortunate Son! Still relevant today! Finally getting to see John again this August after a 52 year wait!
