In this polymer clay tutorial, I'll show you how to make faux Labradorite using black polymer clay and mica powders. I’ve been working on this technique for a little over two years now and I’m finally ready to release it.
The mica powders recreate the shine that real Labradorite possesses. I show a real piece in the tutorial as a reference.
This technique is super easy, fun and can be done with any mica powder you want, so have fun and play around with what you can create.

I really love your work and I feel that this is one that I can do without too many mistakes (!). It's the resin that finishes these off beautifully and I haven't got enough courage to use resin yet. These are beautiful.

Put plastic wrap or platic bag over the clay then use the cutter makes and even nicer edging and puff like edges as well ease to come out the mold too. I notice your cutters cut crisp all the way around unlike others out on the market

A very interesting alternative approach to making faux labradorite (I also have your excellent Etsy alcohol ink labradorite tutorial). I think you might really like the thin, slow-cure UV doming resins (Ultra Dome and EZ Dome) better than the Lisa Pavelka resin. Those resins are applied in a thinner layer. They have virtually no odor and don’t pull in at the edges. They also don’t warp thin pieces of baked polymer. They do require a 36-watt UV lamp and a 30- minute curing time, but I find them much easier to work with than the Magic-Glos resin and love the results. I had almost given up on UV resin until I tried the EZ Dome with a MelodySusie 36-watt UV nail lamp that has a convenient 30-minute timer option. Worth a try - I think you’d love it.

Love this tutorial! One question: When you sand the edges after putting on the resin, how to avoid not accidentally sanding part of the resin? That happened to me and the resin got dull.
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 5 жыл бұрын
You just need to be careful when sanding. I go a bit slower than usual to prevent sanding the resin.

Beautiful pieces! I have never used polishing papers and am confused by how they differ from sandpaper. I have always just sanded my work from coarse to fine grits and then used the dremel for polishing. Do you have a tutorial/article discussing this? I was also wondering if it would be possible to somehow add the heavier vertical dark lines that a lot of labradorite stones have?
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 5 жыл бұрын
I haven't done tutorial on sanding just yet. Just I do have an article on it. www.jessamatutorials.com/finishing-polymer-clay.html It's not very easy to add heavier lines with this faux labradorite technique, but I do have another technique where the effect looks even better and more realistic. www.etsy.com/au/listing/583632485/faux-labradorite-polymer-clay-video?ref=shop_home_active_5&crt=1
