This is a fun mokume gane technique that I’ve been playing around with for a little while now. It’s simple and yet it yields stunning results.
Depending on how you manipulate the polymer clay layers the result will vary. In this tutorial I’ll just be using my fingers to manipulate the clay, but a stamp would look completely different, so play around with this technique and see what results you can get. Who knew gilders paste and mokume gane could look so good?

I think the woodgrain is lovely!! Using an ecru or sand colored clay along with the translucent should give a very woody look. I can't wait to try it! Thank you for inspiring me!

I just love this wood grain look. It is so beautiful. I am curious though why you use Guilder's Paste instead of some other colorant? I looked it up and it is nine dollars per ounce, requiring several colors and therefore, several ounces. I don't know what else I would use it for. Thank you.

It's the gilders paste that creates a cool scratchy look that imitates the wood grain. I've found that's the only way to get that scratchy look.

Another great tutorial. Thank you! Do you need to seal it because of the gilder's paste?
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 6 жыл бұрын
Yes. It is best to seal this technique as there are some areas were the gilders paste is exposed.

Hi there, I love all your videos! Would the effect still be there if you used powder pigments instead of guilders paste?.. Michelle S.
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. I don't think so, because the gilders paste gives that grained look. It would look different with powder, but it could look pretty cool, so try it out if you want.

I’m confused how it’s possible that there are literal dots and circles that look like wood knots that have formed.. how is it possible that that happens just by pushing the clay with fingers? Can you explain that more please?
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 3 жыл бұрын
By pressing on the layers you are distorting them. So in an area where you push down with your finger you are pressing the layers down. When you slice that area you get the effect of a wood know.
