Hi guys welcome back today I am making an Arthurian inspired book cover. This is a gift for my mother for Christmas hence the late post to KZfaq. I decided to do the iconic lady of the lake in Arthurian legend she protects the sword Excalibur until the true king of England comes to claim their right to the throne. In legend after King Arthur dies and was laid to rest in Avalon the sword was returned to the lady of the lake to await the arrival of the new heir to the throne.

Gorgeous. I wouldn't go with that color selection myself, but it's still stunning.

@@pixiewolfdesigns I love color. I would have had bright greens for the leaves and darker greens for the vines, contrasting against the yellow white of the shine of the sword and blues of the lake, had dragon scales on the arm in a metallic blue/bluegreen.

A work of love...bet your mother will be thrilled with it....beautiful! BTW, what kind of clay did you use and how long baked for? Also, did you use black gesso to base it after baking?

I am using super sculpey polymer clay. It bakes at about 120° for a minimum of 30 minutes but the time all depends on the thickness of the clay. If you are using a lot it will need more time to bake. I prime with black gesso with most of my sculptures I find it tones the bright coloured paints down a bit. If I want it really bright I prime with white. I used a clay extruder and then hand braided the clay 💜

No I baked the clay on the flattest baking tray I had but you could bake the book too as long as it is made of nothing but paper/card don't put plastics like fake leathers in the oven it will warp the book 💜
