Video #487: It takes a bit longer if you only have an acrylic roller, but the end result is the same. More Info: www.beadsandbeading.com/blog/?... Polymer Clay Tutor.
Topics Covered In This Video:
* Making beautiful and easy color blends.
* No pasta machine? No problem. All you need is a roller of some sort.
* Teardrop Blends or Skinner Blends are color gradients using more than one color of polymer clay, where the colors gradually shift from one to the next.
* My Teardrop Blend is an easier and faster version of the Skinner Blend.
* Choose 2 or more colors to that you want to work with.
* Softer clay is definitely easier to blend when you are not using a pasta machine.
* Shape balls of clay into pointy teardrop shapes.
* Lay teardrops next to each other in alternating directions.
* Flatten the teardrops into a thin sheet with your rolling tool.
* Fold or roll the sheet, keeping colors aligned in one direction.
* Pushing in the ends of the rolled up blend will keep it from getting too wide.
* Flatten the folded/rolled piece again, until it becomes a flat thin sheet.
* Repeat process until colors are fully blended.

I just discovered today that if I steam the clay over a pot of boiling water it softens quickly and I just dry the moisture off of the clay piece. It works really well to soften a large piece of clay.

Hi Brianna Dacosta, you can use blends like these for tons of polymer clay projects, including making canes. If you look through my tutorial playlist, you will see several examples of tutorials where I use a Teardrop Blend in them. kzfaq.infovideos?shelf_id=6&sort=dd&tag_id=UCHnfmkZSQzXUcy71-VPtMlQ.3.polymer-clay-tutorials&view=46

Thank you for sharing at least I know what I was doing was on the ball. :-) I have the pasta machine and I love using it for doing my skinner blends but I have been cheating by rolling my blends and flattening them before putting into the machine back at number one and working my way down the numbers to 9 and then I roll it backup and start all over again I have found that it gives me as you say a faster mix but also I don't end up wasting some of the clay due to it stretching all out of shape in places. I found rolling it backup into a roll and tucking in the ends brings it all back square and I have ended up with a far better blend doing this :-) I love watching your little videos and when I finally can afford it I will be signing up so I can do some of your lessons special the one on the sweet peas :-) as I wanted to,learn this one so,I can adapt it to the Australian Sturt Desert Pea :-) which I know will make a stunning pair of earrings :-) Thank you for all of you time that you do share for free :-) it really does help those of use who are really short on pennies :-) Have a great day :-)

Oh Cindy,...MY BAD, I'm so sorry, you must think I'm simply Batty! :-/ I was in a hurry (as I write my notes 1st in Word then copy/paste to YT comments), ... & I apparently c/p'd the wrong edited paragraph without catching it! My comment SHOULD have read: "I've never caught a video ABOUT SKINNER BLENDS until tonite." (Why? It's something I've always Meant to go back and watch because it interests me, but frankly I felt Very Intimidated because those pieces in that style always look sooo complicated, so I'd tell myself to go back later & watch,... life would get busy, blah blah blah...) Now that I've seen this one though I understand it's not Nearly as complex as I'd imagined so I will go back and track those ones down! :)

im new to polymer clay also and the only things i have brought are some blades and varnish, any kind works you dont need sculpy brands. i use skewers,stamps, spoon and cutlery handles with patterns anything with texture. i have a bottle as my rolling pin and pulled apert pens for small circles. just look round your house with clay in mind and im sure u will find some useful things. o also soda cans make cuff templates and bend and u can make cutters easy by cutting the cans into strips,fold/bend to the shapes u want and cellotape them down the join but take care when using them as sometimes they can cut. hope this helps and good luck with your clay journey.

I've been so obsessed with clay lately. First I made the homemade clay. I made a bowl changing the colour with acrylic paint before it dried. Turned out so so but you could tell it was cheap clay. I appreciated the DIY I watched to make it but that just got me more addicted. So I bought white DAS air dry clay. I made a witch mushroom house that has turned out more beautiful then I could of ever hoped. Again I appreciated the DIY. I wanted to try polymer clay. All these beautiful canes. I just want to play and create! But I was very worried not having a pasta machine. I've been trying to find one that doesn't cost a fortune but the cheapest one I can find is around $100. I can't justify that right now 😞 but I have a bunch of colours of the polymer clay and some necessary tools to start. I'm so grateful that someone like you has taken the time to teach us how to DIY without a pasta machine. You are a gem. Thank you SO much. Very much appreciated. I have subscribed and liked and turn the bell on. Create away girl. You have lots that love and appreciate you!

Thank you SO much for your videos, they are very clear and helpful! Also, you are the first person/tutorial I've seen that actually uses small amounts of clay rather than monster amounts. As a beginner, I appreciate this since I am not trying to mass produce humongous canes (especially when I'm not good enough to guarantee success yet, lol) and potentially waste a lot of clay making a bad item. I did a reasonable job on my first attempt making a teardrop rainbow blend :D
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 10 жыл бұрын
Thank you Connie Morrisroe for saying that! It has always been my thought that unless you are a professional selling your canes, it doesn't make sense to make large canes. If you do a poor job of making or reducing your cane and you have used a lot of clay making it, you may not feel confident enough to make another one. But if it is small, it doesn't matter if you make a mistake. Then when you are good at it, you may not want miles of the same design in the same color. Either way, smaller canes make a lot more sense for the average clayer!
