Jeff gets it. While most Austrian economists have provided solid work to support the hard currency and deflationary economics, Jeff seems to have taken it to the next level by adding deflationary technology force into the equation. The points he makes around technology deflation is why I’ve been scratching my head as to why Canada has been so aggressive on immigration. I’m seeing my workplace shrink as a result of technology yet the government thinks we need more people for the future economy. Governments just don’t get it.

Great conversation Pomp, you’re on fire. On an individual basis, we need be less wedded to debt and seek real assets which act as an effective store of value (ie inflationary hedge) and have some level of intrinsic value / utility (as well as being supply limited). Ergo, we reach for the holy trinity of property, land, and gold. (BTC et al too, potentially). Anything else in the mix? Most other asset classes can be too easily diluted.

In 2011 I bought a 47In LCD TV for about $800. Last month I bought A 55 inch smart TV with all the bells and whistles for $350. Yes, technology is deflationary.

One of the best interviews ever. This is "must listen to" material for anyone who truly wants to understand what's going on. All of Jeff's interviews are like this because he really gets what's going on and is so calm and unemotional in his presentation of it. Kudos to Anthony for letting him talk and use his examples. One technical note... please even out the volume. Jeff is soft and you are loud so I'm constantly adjusting volume up and down. Other than that tho brilliant! Informative and thought provoking off the scale! I'll comment on a solution because there is one, no matter how improbable it is. It's presented in a video by the Venus Project- founder Jaques Fresco. He proposes using science and technology (AI) to manage the world's resources to provide abundance for all. It takes the cooperation of all or most countries in surveying the global resources and then allowing AI to distribute them where needed. The bottom line is we have plentiful resources and the technology to provide abundance for all. The question is, can the world's leaders let go of CONTROL?? Our challenges are TECHNICAL, not POLITICAL. Your next interview should be with Roxanne Meadows, Jaque's assistant since he has now passed. She is well versed on how this fundamental change is the next logical step for society, if we the people are ready. I am!!

Going back looking at history. We got a market crash the deflation then inflation , then hyper inflation. But the markets have never been artificially held up like this before.

Such a catch 22 between Inflation (current environment) and Deflation (will happen sometimes during road to inflation). Then the Deflation world J. Booth is talking about which is the only way to correct the current inflating system. World Gov'ts cannot and will not come together--Chaos of some forms will happen as consequences. I get the feel that it's up to the mass (people) at individual level, does his/her best to navigate through the Inflationary/Deflationary chaotic financial system to get to a sound money, prosperity driven, and abundance-Deflationary (air we breath), Technological Innovation World J. Booth is pointing out. So a sign that this world of abundant, deflationary system may happen in the future is when we hear Debates at local and national level...? Thank you J. This was another nice interview Pomp! I was first introduced to Jeff's work on Real Vision and so this was a great extension of that interview from several months ago. On the topic of "Bitcoin as Schmuck Insurance" (something popularized by Chamath) in which it sounds like both you and Jeff share that sentiment, what are the other valuable use cases that Bitcoin fulfill besides the "Blood In the Streets in the literal sense" type of scenario where there is total society mayhem due to the breakdown of the Fiat Money system? And even the thought of that is something I don't wish to envision as there will be a lot of suffering far greater than the Coronavirus will cause. Absent of other legitimate use cases (maybe censorship resistant value transfer and low transaction fees?), wouldn't it always be just another speculative asset?

Great interview. What seems to be missing in these conversations is the effects of population on economics, debt and scarcity. Population numbers should become a core parameter of the equation that leads to a deflationary solution. It’s tough to go back to the reality of the “old world” when the old world had 6 billion less humans occupying the planet, hunting for resources and work to pay for them. Any solution void of addressing population growth is kicking the entire bucket of problems down the road. I definitely want a PompCast that addressed economics and population..
