I wouldn't mind at all if they went back towards Frond, but I understand that's not where they're at right now as artists. The line ''nothing but blue skies from now on'' from Song For Agnes sums it up; we wish it was only blue skies from now on, but it's not, and we wouldn't be creatively honest if we sing about blue skies when everything is so bleak.

I frequently return to this album in hopes to boost their numbers. Don't know what it takes to get more famous but they're doing fantastic albums. Song for Agnes is by far my favorite on 9. I'd rank it in the top 3 Pond songs for sure.

@@N8R_Quizzie While they're certainly gaining more fans as time goes on and they continue producing incredible music (both together and on their own), I have a feeling that Pond won't get the recognition they deserve until it's too late for them to actually enjoy the benefits that come with it. I can imagine how frustrating it must be to put out something so good that you poured your heart and soul into, only to see it barely get any attention whatsoever from either the music press (9 was reviewed by less publications than most of their previous albums) or the world at large, especially when you've already proven yourself eight times before and are so closely associated with a project that _has_ broken through to the mainstream.

@@N8R_Quizzie Oh I know. Jay's probably my overall favorite musician around today and Saturnia's definitely my most anticipated album of the year. I've been craving it since Out In the World came out three years ago lol. It is pretty maddening to see his solo project continually get less and less attention when he's done nothing but get better and better, and obviously the same can be said about Nick and his solo albums and, of course, Pond as a whole. This world truly can be an unfair place. Thankfully, these boys seem to be in it for the music itself rather than fame or fortune, so hopefully they'll continue making music together for a long time to come.

@@N8R_Quizzie That's a good question, I can't nail down exactly why this song appeals to me so much yet. I do think it might be the most emotive piece of music they've created thus far and it has that "big" song feel, vintage Pond with a sense of real maturity is how I'd probably describe it. As much as I love Toast this would have been a great choice to close out such an epic album!
@LanceVanceDance84
@LanceVanceDance84 2 жыл бұрын
@@matthewgoff9757 I'm glad they chose to close it out with Toast. Gold Cup is indeed an epic (as is the entire album), but I feel like it's too much of a "downer" (I guess? Idk how to accurately describe the vibe of it--though when I say downer I mean it in the best way possible) to end such an overall fun time with, whereas Toast, much like The Weather before it, is literally one of the most perfect album closers I've ever heard. It's warm, bubbly, emotive, and just oozing good vibes to gently usher you out of such a wild album, despite the subject matter being a bit apocalyptic. Not to mention Tasmania ended with Doctor's In, which is also a bit of a depressing, apocalyptic tune (again, not meant in a negative way, just describing the overall vibe of it). I guess I just prefer when they close things out on a higher note, even if the lyrics themselves aren't exactly shining with optimism. And it's yet another album of theirs where my favorite song is the closing track.
@matthewgoff9757
@matthewgoff9757 2 жыл бұрын
@@LanceVanceDance84 Oh I completely agree, it's definitely a much heavier song than anything else on the album and you're right in that it would have likely changed the overall tone of the entire experience if it was the last thing people heard, I suspect the band felt the same way. Nice to know you also enjoyed The Weather, that has always been a favorite track of mine, although I still wish they had of included Fire in the Water on the album, that song is a banger! Toast is an excellent choice for the closer though (and for a favorite on the album), it goes out on such a positive note and gives some cheers to both the band and us fans. Take Me Avalon I'm Young has really grown on me over the past few weeks but it's so hard picking a favorite on an album like this, just about every song can make a case for why it's the best, here's to hoping their next album is as epic as this one!
@LanceVanceDance84
@LanceVanceDance84 2 жыл бұрын
@@matthewgoff9757 Before 9, The Weather was not only my favorite Pond album but my favorite album ever. It's _perfect_ from start to finish in my humble opinion, just like 9, and the title track not only became my favorite closing track but one of if not my all-time favorite songs, though now Toast and much of 9 is in serious contention for that coveted spot lol. Regarding Fire In the Water, I too wish it was included on the original tracklist for The Weather; IIRC it wasn't mixed in time for the initial release, which is why they tacked it on as a bonus track in Japan and then later as the final track on reissues. However, I don't like its placement on the tracklist. I feel it works best in between A/B and Zen Automaton and I imagine that's originally where it was intended to be, as in that spot it doesn't break up any of those news clips that bookend/lead into some of the tracks, it adds a more uptempo vibe between the subdued atmosphere of the second half of A/B and Zen, and also leaves the title track in its rightful place as the final song, which is a key part of the experience for me. It's how I've got the album set up on my phone, which I feel is basically the definitive version of it. If you haven't listened to it in that order yet then I highly recommend it. I too find it difficult to pick a favorite from 9. Most of the time I think and say it's Toast, but then I listen to the others and wind up unable to fully decide. Take Me Avalon I'm Young is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard with some of Nick's best and most mature lyrics to date, Rambo leaves me feeling so high and pumped up (especially with Jay and Shiny Joe sharing vocal duties on that one verse towards the end before merging with Nick's vocals before the outro), America's Cup is _such_ a groovy earworm that's been stuck in my head ever since I heard a live recording of it from last year, Song for Agnes is one of the most epic openers I've heard on an album (right up there with 30000 Megatons and Daisy), Czech Locomotive is so lushly atmospheric with a flawless buildup of emotion, etc.. I really love this album to bits and feel the exact same way about it as I did when The Weather absolutely blew me away four years ago; I never imagined that they'd be able to match it (Tasmania came pretty close for the most part but didn't quite reach the same heights for me in the end, though it's still a perfect companion to The Weather). To me they're both literally perfect and fully encapsulate why these guys together make up my favorite band in the world.

Idk how Im surprised when every pond song is the best song I've ever heard. Felt that way at 'beard, wives, denim,' where I jumped on ,all the way up to Tasmania. Didn't realize Tasmania was coming out when it did cause I was still jizzing over the singles from 'the weather' but then Tasmania has some of the best grooves and melodies I've ever heard and Im surprised for some reason. I hear the singles for this album and they slap on first listen, but if Im honest I was a little overwhelmed. Now I play this and the opener has me almost in tears. Second listen of America's cup, human touch and Toast reveal how fucking perfect they are. Smoked a spliff with Nick and Joe outside a Halloween party while they were touring in New York a few years back. Nick said he was sick and I was accepting the risks with sharing a J with him. I said I'm not worried about catching a case of genius.
