Pond biology in a backyard garden pond

This video attempts to explain how the nitrogen cycle works in a backyard garden pond. Understanding how the bacteria work in an aquatic ecosystem will help you build your own pond filters and it will help you design the pond so that maintenance is reduced. The bacteria are also crucial to keeping the water crystal clear, clean and healthy.

Hi Kev , great video I love all the little added pictures and graphics in this one. I wish I could beam you over to my garden in England and ask you nicely to help me make a pond as beautiful as yours. Then of course I would beam you straight back home and because I would get you home really fast and your time zone is ahead of us you would only be away for a little hour. 😃😉🤔🐠😊🐚🐡🐟🌾🌿☘🌴🤯

I’ve been devouring your videos, you have amazing explanations and are easy to listen to. I’m building a pond that will have approximately 9500 gallons and want my bog to be about 30% of it. My question to you is; Does it matter how deep a bog filter is? I’m looking at a vertical cylinder tank that’s about 8’ tall. Wasn’t sure if they would play havoc with the plants in the bog or not

I haven’t personally tried one that deep but I would. I like to replicate nature and I’m sure that there’s water percolating up through substrates from deeper than 8ft.
