Pond water testing and importance of KH

Күн бұрынCalcium Carbonate is very important for your pond. Keep testing it to make sure you have sufficient amount of it. Just about everything in the pond uses that carbonate, especially the nitrification process.
People have pH crash because they run out of calcium carbonate and nitrification suffers, ending up with more ammonia in their pond.
Since the waste isn't being converted, it becomes toxic.

Hello I’m new to koi keeping and lots of pond group are stating that my nitrite needs to be 0 ppm to be safe. If this is the case I can have some nitrite as long it does not exceed 1.0 this will save me on my water bill from doing constant water changes.

It's impossible to have 0 nitrite even if the drop or paper test shows 0. There's always amount as long as it's not higher than 1, very little to worry about.
