P.S 1 5/10 P.S. 2 4/10 Verdict : I watched this movie few months ago on Sun tv. I rate it as Average. Not even one scene or dialogue left an impact on audience mind. Making historical movies is not your cup of tea dear Mani sir. You better stick on your underworld, anti terrorism, sentimental and romantic movies. Exotic locations, costumes and beautiful, hot heroines won't alone make a great movie. Atleast take lessons from Malayalam movies like Kaalapaani, Vaishali, Parinayam, Padayottam, Vadakkan Veeragatha, Pazhassi Raja how to write screenplay for historical and epic movies. Screenplay was boring. Dialogues were artficial. Performances and Direction never made any impact.

It was clear they were trying to target Bahubali, KGF , RRR etc to make something big in Tamil cinema. This should have been a web series with atleast a dozen parts , with each well made giving minute details.

I completely agree with blue sattai maaran for this review. Manirathnam has changed kalki's ponniyin selvan so bad, if kalki was alive today, he would have taken legal action against manirathnam for ruining such a masterpiece. Manirathnam has changed ponniyin selvan's entire story plot... there were way too many logical errors in the movie. Honestly mani should apologize for this mistake

100 % correct review. A story should be told in web series. In movie, they missed the flow, suspense, many good scenes, few twists. Since I already knew the story, I don't like the narration and screenplay. In this movie,Audience have follow many characters to understand story.

People need to realise Ponniyin Selvan is purely based on a novel written by Kalki and it was depicted the way it was written for the maximum part except for the climax. U cannot expect a bahubaali kind of war action with all the extra commercial elements.

@@jenita1463what other changes were done except for the sendhan amudhan character arc? Maybe I do agree that giving the throne to madurandagam did not go well with all but otherwise it was definetly good. Something like this would have been taken years to build which was completed within 200 days by Maniratnam. Once again a gentle reminder this was more of a revenge drama focussing Nandini and Adita karikalan and not a war drama like bahubali which made it look less exciting for few people.

Not only mani sir. All big actors movies story screenplay are very flat. Because they think big actors show their face means collection is coming. So no one is ready to think about scripts. In this mani sir also same blood. PS1 - Very bad movie (flat movie) but many people are telling movie is good. But they are supporting the bad movie. PS2 - Since the bad movie in supported as good movie so they are not in a hype to see the second part. If truely 1 st part is good means 100 percent sure all will be eagerly waiting to watch the 2 nd part. But thats not happening in this case.

That becuase of the hype of the book - Movie and story is pride of Tamil Nadu. MGR, Kamal, Rajini are interested to make this story. All are added support the people to come theatres. The movie is very poor in story and Screenplay. But it collected well in Box Office.

I never thought I'll agree with blue sattai, Movie is so bad, felt incomplete and ponniyin selvam was only in title not in most part of movie nor it revolved around him. Please don't say it's original, in climax Karthi was badly beaten like he was soaking on his own blood bath. Cut in 2 min he is leading a war with jayam Ravi. What the hell.😂😂😂 Villains just visited for a climax low budget fight.
