We begin with the 1967 Pontiac LeMans with the Pontiac 326. Our plan is to bring this classic muscle car beyond the GTO in an effort for a budget friendly restoration.
Over the last year we've come a long way. We were finally in a position to buy my father's first car he fell in love with, a 1967 Pontiac LeMans. This LeMans came to us with a 326, Powerglide, and a factory Posi rear. Every piece of this car will be touched and upgraded to what we believe the GTO should have been for the day. With a fresh Pontiac 400 we are on the right track.

Oh man, I just bought my uncle's 67 Lemans and it needs a LITTLE work, mostly engine. I've never been a motor head but always loved 50's and 60's cars and needed one. Ill be watching all of your videos! Thanks for doing them

We talk about rebuilding the 326 on a fairly regular basis, it's just a really unique driving experience. Hope to see some progress on it as you go!

I kept the 326 an the Pontiac 2 speed transmission in my 67 Lemans. After the bore job I now have a 349, added a 4 barrel intake also.

There's been lots of times in the summer when I sat out there with a beer just listening. Something about rain on a metal roof.

The dipstick tube looks correct. You will have a pressed in tube then the lower tube. Here is a quote from the Ames catalog explaining. "The outer tube needs to be installed from the bottom up, which will require removal of the oil pan. The “pressed-fit” of the tube in the block acts as an oil seal. Once in place, the lower tube will fit loosely in the outer tube and the windage tray will slide over the lower tube holding it in place." Also the transmission that would have came with the car would have been an ST300 known as the Super Turbine 300 not a Powerglide. The only real thing they have in common is being two speeds.

I appreciate the insight! I did a little more digging and you're right. The Pre-70s had the windage tray, totally threw me off since our replacement block is a 75.

You can make this Pontiac 326 into a 375 Stroker like Butler performance did with the 326 Lemans on the Powerblock show called Muscle car.

The first time I rebuilt my 326, with a bore over of 0.030 inch, I reused the connecting rods. Mistake. After about 100,000 miles two of the rods failed in metal fatigue. There were about 186,000 miles on the original factory build that we know about, not including a few years the car was driven with a nonfunctioning speedometer gear in the transmission! Fortunately the cylinder walls cleaned up nice with 0.060 inch bore out. Shout out to Gosney machine shop in Auburn, Washington. They did a great job with both the block and the heads, setting in the valves just right. Still purrs like a cat all over Western Washington. Recommendation: When rebuilding a 326, do not reuse the connecting rods. With the thick water jacket, a 326 that gets regular oil and filter changes and tuneups can easily get 200,000 miles on the original factory build and that many on each rebuild, if the rebuild is done right. Which means you are risking a fatigue fracture if you reuse those rods!

We've been looking at either Linden Green without metallic flake or an Olive Drab for something unique.

Just do it! If you're looking for excellent walkthroughs on how to do specific things check out 1A-Auto, ChrisFix, Deboss Garage, and Klowny1969. They are my go-to for instructional KZfaqrs. Unfortunetly there aren't many in-depth walkthroughs on first gen Pontiac F-bodies but the Camaro is close enough and should get you through most body work things. The main thing I would look at is how to refurb parts you already have rather than shelling out thousands for new parts, don't be afraid to push your limits but know when to ask for help. If you need anything feel free to ask!

Join some of the Pontiac and Firebird groups on FB. Lots of knowledge to be shared if you don't mind taking a little good-natured ribbing once in a while.
