Intro: 00:00
Getting Started: 00:38
Figuring Out The Gameplay: 02:45
Creating Water: 05:21
Creating The Character: 06:28
Switching From Godot To Unity: 08:09
Creating A Level: 08:54
Finishing The Game: 11:38
I spent a year creating a difficult climbing game inspired by the rage game Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy. I am a big fan of Bennett's work! Ever since Getting Over It came out I was sure countless similar games would pop up, but I was disappointed to see this not materialize fully so I took it upon myself to create this game, hoping to contribute to a "Foddian Type" game genre.
It's hard to condense a year's work into 15 minutes, there are obviously a million things I could have mentioned. I included the parts I found most interesting and I tried to focus mainly on the design rather than the super technical bits. Feel free to hit me up on Twitter or join the Discord if you have any specific questions about the game :)

@@ledrakejames I'm on the other side of the coin and I completely agree with you. I've been doing programming from age 10 to 26 as a hobby but am missing some critical core math skills as I find myself hung up on math-related issues during almost every project, despite feeling like I had a pretty solid understanding of math through school. It's the engineering side of things I'm missing and I know it. I have raspberry pi's and arduinos but know how to do almost nothing with them even though I've made entire working MMOs in javascript. The balance of skills is very important

I appreciate your practical approach of making a game that doesn't take itself seriously, and using pre-existing resources to lesson the workload. I tend to do everything from absolute scratch and have a perfectionist complex that prevents me from getting things done efficiently. Like, the stupid way the guys arms flaps in the water to "swim". That's what makes a game fun.

3:00 that reminds me of one game jam where someone made a game about climging a tower as an octopus. They made it so you need to use 8 mice to control the octopus XD

Hot take, but Getting Over It is genuinely one of my favorite games of all time, and I'm so incredibly happy that we finally have a successor to it. Thank you so much for creating this game!

yes! I hate how people call it a rage game and I don't really like the reputation it has gained. Its a great game about perseverance and learning from failure. It would have honestly been my game of the year for 2017 had Nier Automata not released that same year. The first time I completed it after days of trying is a feeling I've never had from a game before.

Love you for making this game. Today I was watching Markiplier play this game and I was wondering who is the person who made this game and does he know how much joy he has brought to people, and then lo and behold KZfaq recommends me a video by you and it is you who made it - so thank you! The climbing man is impressive, pathetic, and sad all at the same time, that is what I love about it. This game symbolizes the struggles and triumps of humanity.
