And _yes,_ the Yasha Nydoorin (Ashley Johnson), an Aasimar barbarian, did use the line in [CR Campaign #2 - The Might Nein (2018-2021)]. *;)*

Her dice was fine. Otohan was just way too overpowered. That Exultant Fury mode was absolute bullshit.
@ozpin832913 күн бұрын
@@jonathanhibberd9983 It's *extremely* hard to balance an encounter for a party of 7 level 13 players, especially if you're trying to build a single enemy to fight them. Matt was also rolling incredibly well during that fight. Sometimes the dice just aren't on your side.
@jonathanhenderson942211 күн бұрын
@@ozpin8329 The group also played pretty terribly. I'm surprised they didn't learn after the first encounter not to spread out against an enemy who's strength is their ridiculous movement. They should've clumped up and made her come to them, especially since Otohon didn't seem to have many (any?) AOE attacks to really punish them for doing so. Would've allowed them to gang up on her as well as using all their party buff mechanics, which would've at least kept her distracted and spending attacks to try to get them to drop concentration. THAT SAID, I do think the Exultant Fury mode was OP... either nix that or the superior healing potion. Full-health, half damage, new powers, AND you get to heal back most of the damage done AGAIN? Way too much. Maybe against a party that's better strategically, but that's not this group, and especially not with the dice going the way they did. I also question how much that ending was just a ploy to avoid a TPK. Did FCG always have the "nuclear" option? And even with all the dice damage I'm not sure if it would've taken Otohan to 0.
@jonathanhibberd54934 күн бұрын
@@ozpin8329 Of course Matt rolled well. He had advantage on almost every roll. Her high attack and their relatively low ACs means she's pretty much going to hit every time anyway. But her first hit she has the ability to knock them down, and most of them don't have high strength. So she's pretty much guaranteed to knock them prone. Which means now he has advantage on the rest of his 7 attacks on that character. 11 if he uses her bonus and legendary actions. So for every round, he's only rolling without advantage for 1, maybe 2 attacks. And actually the dice were on the party's side. Liam had several nat20s, Marisha hit with pretty much every one of her Eldritch Blasts. Even here, Ashley only missed her first attack because Matt gave Otohan the AC of a fucking Tarasque.

For those less Dice Rules fluent, &/or wondering about Ashley Johnson's dice rolling conflicts/woes... *;)* 1.) *_"Cocked"_** --* By standard dice roll etiquette and Tournament Rules, dice must be definitively laying flat on its bottom-most side in order to have its roll-result 'legally' counted. The dice cannot be at an angle or propped/stuck upon another surface (e.g.: book stack, cups, dice tray walls, other dice, etc.). 2.) *_Dice Trays_** --* A _'cocked'_ non-result has a greater chance of occurring with Dice Trays/Towers, depending upon the shape &/or material of the Tray/Tower. This is the trade-off for having to use Trays/Towers in limited play-spaces such as the Critical Role (&/or others') table. 3.) *_Unusual Dice_** --* Rather obviously, a _'cocked'_ non-result can also occur with dice that are unusually shaped from the d20 dice-set standards. Though I am reasonably certain that the CR-cast do not use such off-shape(d) dice; not even Laura _'Dice Queen'_ Bailey. *;D*

@@xdrkcldx -- Possible, but unlikely; given from at least two factors of Critical Role history... *:)* 4.) *_High(er) Standards_** --* The CR cast strive to hold to D&D rules-standards and Tournament Rules where possible. That being said, this striving is *NOT* an absolute rule; good RolePlaying, storytelling, &/or fun trumps mindlessly following technical rules. *;)* 5.) *_Closely Watched_** --* The CR audience have proven to be very close watchers of CR play. There have been moments across the CR years where the CR fans know _MORE_ about the CR play going on than the CR Players. For example, back in *[CR Campaign #1 - Vox Machina (2015-2017)],* Laura Bailey (Vex'ahlia) could not find an NPC ally card she had been given from an earlier session, believing she had left it a home, or lost/misplaced it. The CR Livestream Audience, *_mid-session,_* informed Travis Willingham (Grog Strongjaw) through the Live Chat where Bailey's NPC ally card was located, right down to the *_EXACT PAGE_* the card was tucked in Bailey's binder.

*@jeffrey-825 --* The Bells Hells (BHS) crew were battling *_Otohan Thull,_* one of the commanders/leaders of the Ruby Vanguard cabal, in the latter-half of *[CR 3x91 - "True Heroism"].* Otohan, a female Ruidusborn-human Fighter (Psi Warrior specialization) was *LEVEL 20,* versus the Bells Hells level 15 group-average. Otohan's base Armor Class was AC 22, but after taking critical (pun intended) damage from BHS' combined and doggedly persistent attacks (despite BHS also sustaining critical damage in-turn), Otohan activated her Ruidusborn _'Exaltant Fury'_ form, which cleansed any debuffs, refreshed her (2x) Action Surges, and boosted her AC (25).

What does 'pool hall' meaning in this context? Do people get angry a lot playing pool?
@henrymartinvo15 күн бұрын
I believe it's a reference in their friend group because Ashley was angry and/or tough against someone in a pool hall long ago. Could easily be misremembering.

@@henrymartinvo *(& @Krissyhowler) --* The _"Pool Hall"_ Ashley joke is two-fold... *;)* 1.) *_Anecdote_** --* As mentioned by *{@henrymartinvo},* Ashley once got mad during a pool (cue sports) game. Travis jokingly remarked how Ashley seemed ready to snap her pool cue in half in cinematic dramatic manner. 2.) *_Dice Rolling_** --* Ashley also rolls her dice against the sides/walls of her Dice Tray (not an uncommon rolling style), which increases the chances of a _'Cocked'_ non-result. (You can read/refer to my own Comment on Dice Rolling Rules and _'Cocked'_ non-results.)
