All excellent stuff. Pool cues in my opinion are like golf clubs. If you have a smooth consistent stroke and or golf swing, there's little difference between equipment. I've shot some great pool on the road using a house stick. I still use the same Meucci cue with the original pro shaft I purchased about 30 years ago for 200 bucks. I recently hopped on the carbon fiber bandwagon getting a 500 dollar Meucci carbon shaft for my 30 year old 200 dollar cue. 😃 Back to my original point, buying expensive equipment be it pool or golf isn't going to improve your game.

I made the change to carbon fiber playing shaft about 3 months ago . One thing I've recently noticed is that I'm playing a lot more center ball on shots . Ive been playing with low deflection cues for about 17 years now but I think it has more to do with the consistency of the shaft. I've always kind of adopted Ronnie O'Sullivan approach when it comes to deflection. That your almost always going to have a touch of accidental side spin so you're better just to use a little and account for it. But I guess the consistency has changed that a little in my game

Brian you do a great job of explaining and teaching. One thing I would like to understand more is the different shafts and elaborate on which ones typically will interchange. And sizes.
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards Жыл бұрын
There are some brands that interchange like Lucasi and Predator cues. Most of the time you have a thread size that fits that cue. Larger companies like predator will make a shaft that fits most cues on the market and your retailer will be able to point you towards the right fit for your cue. Thanks again for watching and for your support of the channel.

Hey Bryan - Appreciate the shout-out. I ended up getting the Predator Sport 2 and sprang for the Revo with the WVP. So far, loving the feel, the weight and don't even use a glove sometimes. I feel like I am more accurate on longer shots with it. I know the cue isn't supposed to make a big difference at my level. But maybe it is the confidence factor of having a great cue that comes into play. You want to do it justice. I'm using the Predator chalk and liking it; even though it is a little messy. Gonna try the Russian Magic at some point. Anyway, thanks for the advice and great videos!
@FXBilliards

Sounds great Peter - LD shafts do give you an edge (something we dont talk about much) with longer shots, even without english. Because one of the factors that cause us to miss (Deflection) has been reduced a great deal. This applies even without english being intentionally applied.

Interesting view on carbon fibre shafts. If you look at golf equipment carbon fibre shaft must have to 100 % taken over from steel when it comes to drivers and fairway woods! Iron clubs not yet but it is surely growing. Price? In the beginning more expensive, today not so much!

I’m not familiar with the brand, but I am very happy that you found a table you like. I think the number is something like 70% of tables sold in the country are 8 foot tables so chances are you got the perfect size for you and your family. And that should bring you many years of fun. I had my previous table for about 30 years. Thanks for supporting to channel. Have a great new year.

Agree with most everything you say. But as far as tips I do still use a triangle tip. I've used them for about 30 years now. But I'm a hard tip guy. So the triangle generates a lot of spin for me. But I usually punch stroke everything and let the cue do all the work. I very rarely even really put a stroke on the ball anymore. Soft spin shots is where my game is nowadays

As far as the consistency point that you made; With predator blak and ikon as well as the sp series (and I’m certain others) the nice thing is there construction is the same. It’s the c4+ construction. So... if you swap cues and it’s the ones you mentioned in the video... they actually in theory should hit the same.

I was anxious to try the Kamuui chalk....so, sucked it up & bought a cube....used it once and what a mess it made on my new Simonis. So, it sits there being glorious on a shelf....never to be used on MY table again. It's not just messy....it's hard to clean up. So...if there are any others out there that want to keep their tables nice.....don't use it. If you play league on other peoples tables...I guess that is up to you....or them.

Great channel. Found you this weekend and have watched dozens of your vids. Question on phenolic tips. I bought a predator BK3. I used predator chalk for years, but got tired of the small holder always falling out of my pocket. And I have a kamui cube I've used for my break cue, but yeah it's messy. So I tried magic chalk and a bigger holder, and by the end of the night I "donated" all my predator chalks to the bin at my club... magic chalk also seems to work well enough on my break tip, so I may leave the kamui behind too.

Keep me watching the whole time.great. I play with a kamui soft clear. Love my meucci and my meucci carbon fiber shaft. My break you is a BW I paid $120 for it and it came with two shafts. A brake shaft and a jump shaft. But I use the jump shaft for both. The only chalk I've used is masters, predator and silver cup. I'm using predator and it seems to be my favorite. I do not like silver cup. Never had the opportunity to use magic chalk. And all I play with is 19 Oz. Break you is a 21-ounce.. 21 Oz just feels good to me.

I had to replace my grip on my beulah lucasi, if you use baseball grip tape it works wonder Brian, fairly easy to do
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 3 жыл бұрын
It's funny but after recording this and after 10 years, I figured out why the grip on that cue wore out and non of my other grips even show a little bit of age. Because the grip of this cue goes all the way to the end of the cue, my hands are actually on the grip. But because I grip my cues at the very end, my other grips dont get any reps, because I am not really touching them very much. I like the idea of the tape because I dont really need to break with this butt because I have others that I can put my BK2 shaft on. Thanks for the recommendation.

Kamui is very good I do love it but personally I also love the kamikaze hard, the HOW hard, the Tiger tips that comes on the Cuetec Avid, the phenolic tip, the bulletproof break jump tip, the kamui sai, and the KO brothers medium, and I do not like the elk master.

Hi Brian. Thanks for this video, and as always, you gave us great info. I would like to add some things about tips and chalk if You don't mind, Regarding all other topics - you said it all! I used Kamui Black Soft for 2 years or so, also other brands (Navigator, G2, Predator, different types of Kamui, etc...), and I want to add one thing that is not brand related. Almost all laminated multi layered SOFT tips, after a month of playing, or even sooner start to have performance and characteristics of MEDIUM tip. Maybe it's me or maybe I am subjective, but that is my experience. I also have a rule to change tip on every six to seven months regardless of how much it wears off and how much I played with it. Reason for that is that tips tend to get stiffer with time because they dry out and lose flexibility. Currently I use ZAN Premium Medium because it is a factory tip on Ignite shaft. It is my first ZAN tip and I am more than happy with it. I have Kamui Brown Medium a year old on other maple no LD shaft and it's so hard that you can use it as a break. Do you have similar experience? About chalk I can say that I tried a lots of different chalks and I agree with you that they are not the same. If we talk about middle and high price range I was most disappointed with TAOM, and most happy with Kamui Roku 6. It is expensive, and maybe it is psychological factor, but I really feel that I can rely on it in every situation and I never miscued with it (chalk related miscue). Also it last very long. The one I use now are more than a year old, and I have about 40% left (already purchased new one just in case lol). It does not make a mess, i don't have any residue on table, glove or hands (like Kamui Alpha and Beta or Exceed and Mezz), and you can literally apply it lightly as a feather with almost no pressure on tip. Only thing I noticed that hard phenolic tips on break and jump cues tend to wear it down more than needed. I would like You to make a video about your tools that you have for cue and tip maintenance. Thanks again for great video, useful info and time invested!

I also use a Big Beulah 2 break cue, but replaced the tip with a G10. I was wondering if there was any specific reason for replacing your Beulah shaft with a BK2 and what tip did you go with?
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 3 жыл бұрын
The BB2 shaft is fine but I got a BK2 shaft for free, that’s the only reason for the switch. The BB2 shaft is in my “backup cue” bag. The one I leave in my car. For power brakes I really like the big Beulah shaft because it’s more flexible. The tip on the BK2 is fixed so there’s nothing really to replace.

Great video as always, quick question on pocket size for one's dream table (yes I've been dreaming of some day getting my own pool table). Any recommendations on pocket size? I had a couple pros tell me over the years if you can't fit a 9 foot table an 8 foot table with tight pockets is the next best thing. Of course they never say how tight of pockets and from tournament play I know real tight pockets cuts down on one's ability to cheat the pocket for position play. So in my mind I've thought 4.5" pockets on an 8 foot might be a good way to go. What are your thoughts? Thank you for all you do for us out here with your videos!! Stan

I'm often curious about the cue weight of just about everybody's cue. You told us about everything else but you skipped your bag. I use Predator chalk and my guests do to. It's less of a mess than the Masters. If I use Masters then it's all over my hands, shaft, table, and everywhere else. The Predator chalk not nearly as much of a mess and it seems to stick a lot better to the tip. Haven't tried the others but I've heard a lot of good about the Russian Magic.

I am playing as a 325 for 2 yrs. even though I have beaten 4 and 5 rated players. almost 1200 games.

No one ever got worse from playing on a larger table. BUT it is also good to practice on the equipment you will be playing on as well. As far as Fargo goes, other than playing more events that use the fargo ranking and winning more games, I don't know how to get your score higher.

Brian I can across a 8 ball shot that I couldn't figure a way out of. I have ball in hand my ball was daylight off the 8 and the 8 was 1/2 inche from the corner pocket and 1/4th inch off the rail. Any idea 💡.

If you play with a carbon fiber shaft do you need a carbon fiber break cue for the sake of not getting chalk from the break cue onto the carbon fiber shaft? I ask only because I know you're not supposed to use chalk (the white chalk/powder to slick your maple shaft) on carbon fiber but often players chalk their maple shafts. I am interested in playing with a carbon fiber shaft but also have my eyes on a maple break cue? What are your thoughts? Other players with this set up, I'd like to hear what you think as well.

I’ve noticed a couple pros playing with maple and carbon fiber - the only recommendation I would make would be to wipe down your cues with a rag if you’re gonna be using powder. I don’t think I’ve had that powder on my hands in 15 years. A lot of places don’t even have it in the building. Thanks for watching and thanks for your question

Do i need to clean my tip first before using new n different brand of chalk?
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards Жыл бұрын
Wow, that’s a really good question but no,- the old stuff will be gone from the tip pretty quick. You could use a tip tool if you wanted to get the old chalk off, but don’t put any thing moist or wet on it.

Brian, I've been playing w a 11.75 shaft for about a year now. Took some getting used to. I'm considering going up to 12.25. Because, when ive tried a larger tip, I seem to be more accurate. I think I'm good enough w English to not have that effect my decision. Thoughts?

You should get more accuracy with the larger tip, but maybe practice with one before you commit dollars.

I have multiple predator cues and with respect to consistency, how do you deal with cues that are naturally forward weighted? Shifted balance point is very noticeable and I was curious how you deal with this.
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 2 жыл бұрын
I have used predator cues almost exclusively for the last 10 years and really like the balance. But I think if I was in the situation you mentioned, I would add weight to the cue. If you don’t know how to do this I will be showing how in a future podcast.
@jonathanliu5047

@@FXBilliards thanks for the reply. I’ve played with adding weight, but didn’t like the overall increase in weight of the cue. I suppose I’m more curious as to why there’s so much forward weight in this particular design, Throne 2-1. And this would be a question for a cuemaker.

What's the ideal cue tip size for a 7' British table 🤔????
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards Жыл бұрын
Because the pockets are less forgiving, I might go with a wider tip 12.7 or larger so that you’re not putting too much spin on the ball by mistake. Hope that helps.
@drmitofit2673
@drmitofit2673 2 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem with current cue terminology is the "low deflection shaft". One might think that this means an inflexible cue stick like a heavy power fishing rod, but actually they are light, often hollow on the inside, and deflect MORE like a light power fishing rod. A low deflection shaft is whippier and deflects away from the cue ball on off center impact in slow motion, thus causing less "squirt" of the cue ball when applying English. A "low squirt shaft" would be better terminology but that would be a terrible marketing term, ha ha ha!

Would you address cue profiles - Nickle Vs. Dime?
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 3 жыл бұрын
Dime will give you more spin on the ball, but will be less forgiving if you miss your contact point. Nickel is easier maintenance, because you’ll be shipping your tip a lot less often. Just about every house Cue in a pool hall is a nickel. Thank you very much for watching - hope I helped you with my answer.

Yeah i like the video but i will never agree that a light break cue breaks better than a heavy break cue. I dont care what technology is in it. If a freight train crashes into a car, it will make more damage than if a motorcycle crashes into the car. Mines is 25oz and it is a beast.
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 3 жыл бұрын
To most of us a heavy break cue "feels" better. It's not opinion, its been tested that lighter cues break better. And you cant find any pros adding weight to a 19oz break cue. The reason is, THE BREAKER is the source of power. Not the cue. The Breaker generates the force. Not the cue. And the Breaker will always be able to move the lighter cue faster than the heavier cue. Example: Push that car as fast as you can. Now, Push the Train as fast as you can.

If you chalk up after every shot, and remember to do so, Masters is just fine. I will use it if I don't have anything else. And it is much better than some of the other options out there. Many people don't even know that there are any other brands available. So Masters must be doing something right.
