Day trip from Poole, Dorset to Cherbourg on the BarFleur Ferry on Friday 15th March 2024. As a foot passenger, the total cost for a return trip was £26.00 and to park the car in the port car park for the duration was £15.00. I felt the need to liberate 4 bottles of my favourite French wine, which is Sauternes, a sweet white dessert wine. Please enjoy a look around the facilities on board, as well as a good walk around the Cherbourg main shopping centre, situated about a mile walk from the ferry terminal in Cherbourg. The featured full English breakfast with a coffee was 11 Euro's.
Anyone on holiday in Poole or surrounding area, this will be a great day out to enjoy a relatively inexpensive day out. Don't forget your passport though. Ferry left Poole at 08.30 am, and we left Cherbourg at 6.15 pm. About 6 hours ashore, so plenty of time to ravage the duty free allowance. For a day out, this was a steal for the price, and I can thoroughly recommend it. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the trip and visiting Centre Commercial, Les Eleis, Cherbourg, France. Hi, good to see you. I looked at it like this, it cost £26 for the return day trip. Here is the kicker, I always enjoy a lovely day out in France for that price! I got 4 bottles of my favourite French wine for 11.90 Euro's each = 47.60 Euro's, or in UK money £10.20 x 4 = £40.8O. Breaking this down simply - for a half bottle of Sauternes in Sainsbury's is £12, equivalent to £24 a full bottle. If you multiply £24 x 4 = £96.00, that would be the cost to buy the equivalent wine in the UK. So, the cost to me for the trip was the Ferry cost (£26.00) + 4 bottles of wine (£40.80) = £66.80. The cost of the wine in the UK is £96.00 - minus the ferry and wine cost is £66.80. I had a great day out, got 4 bottles of my favourite French wine, and showed a profit on the day of £29.20 win win get in! Please note, there is no way I would pay £12 for half a bottle in the UK for that wine, in my eyes, that would be too extravagant. However, I got a day in France, had lunch there, 2 beers in a bar, 4 bottles of my favourite wine. Had to be done, be rude not too! Oh and BTW, the 4 bottles are now three! I may need another day trip sooner than I thought LOL.

Well worth the trip then, saving those pennies…good day out.. You sound like a bit of a wine connoisseur. I’ve no clue about wine and never enjoyed the taste, have quite a sweet tooth and never really been a drinker most of my life just once in a blue moon.. Good for you though, enjoying the pleasures of life… We are off to Europe this year and staying in quite a few locations in France. Looking forward to the scenery and food…I’ll be uploading videos of the places we stay in.. when I have time 😂… so watch out for them… Enjoy your week Dave and enjoy the wine 🍷😊

@@Beckstravels24 Will do, sounds like you are doing some travelling too! I'm off to Majorca next month, and again in May. With regards to wine connoisseur, no, not at all. Having a venue in Australia for 10 years, in the middle of the Yarra Valley winery area certainly helped, but expensive wine isn't always the best. I enjoy what I like, and occasionally when time permits, I pop to France and Liberate a few bottles of my favourite wine.
