Thanks a million for this tip on the phosphate remover. This has been a game changer for me. I live in Oklahoma City in an area with lots of trees, windy weather, and super sunny weather. Since I moved to a new house with a pool, I had been constantly fighting green algae with a barrage of liquid chlorine, tablets, bags upon bags of shock--you name it. I was also scrubbing with a brush constantly and the algae came back EVERY WEEK with a vengeance. I even changed the water out, only to have the same problem. I started using this phosphate remover and have been following up with small doses every few weeks and it's been the magic bullet I've been looking for. My best guess is that we just have tons and tons of airborne organic particles landing in the pool that were feeding the algae. This was the solution--only took me about 18 months to figure it out. THANK YOU!!

I had algea after coming back from vacation. My pool guy recommended dumping 4 gallons of chlorine in pool and let it sit for a day or 2. Killed it quick. Then just had to brush the dead algea off the walls and run the pump. Worked like a charm.

Thanks for the information....I took your advice and followed the steps.....I had yellow mustard algae and never thought I would ever get rid of it....you said it right, after I spent hundreds of dollars on chemicals including algaecides the algae would keep coming back time after time while my water turned a teal color at best and most times I could not see the floor of my pool for the green cloudy coloring. After buying the phosphate treatment online and following the directions on the bottle, my pool turned from a swampy green to a cloudy blue...after letting the sand filter run for a few days the cloudiness cleared up and I vaccumed the dead algae to waste. After 1 week I had my pool crystal clear....thanks Kenny for sharing your knowledge!

Sir I really like the way you teach. I am a layman of the first order when it comes to caring and maintaining a pool and I am having zero issues understanding your lessons and especially the reasons for it. I am 60 yrs of age and this is my first pool. I tried many other videos before finding yours. My pool guy stopped coming at the beginning of March and I have already learned to deal with the algae that started a week ago, I figured out the pipes and flow and marked them, completed the backflush, and learned to fix the multiport valve gasket and stopped the water that was flowing out of my backflush drain line when i ran my system at night. So thank you for the lessons. Please keep up the good work so us layman have a chance.

Thank you! This year has been a so of a B.... for me and dealing with algae. My husband passed away 6 years ago and he always maintained the pool. I had no idea what I was doing. I hired a independent pool professional and was spending a lot of money. I felt like I was being taken advantage of, so I started taking water samples to the pool company and every time I went in they we're selling me something. Again, I felt like I was being taken advantage of. I began researching on you tube how to care for my pool. I've learned SO much and have been successfully maintaining my pool for 5 years, until this spring. The algae was terrible and I have been struggling to get rid of it. This video's content will save me from further aggravation. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I appreciate it greatly.

Good video Kenny ...I was paying someone 200 per month to take care of my pool...after watching KZfaq videos for a month I now take care of my own pool..They were (FAKERS OF THE HIGHEST ORDER.)One thing that happens a lot in CA. is the CYA builds after years of using tricolor tabs due to their ease of use. When this happens your chlorine is not effective and algae blooms and phosphates accumulate. Hence the hamster wheel effect..What I did was drain my pool and started over with the chemical puzzle that pools create.Nice to see confirmation of my self education ..I’m a subscriber now.

Hi there! I live in Costa Rica and we don’t have PR10,000. I got Alum Sulfate very cheap instead, and got my pool green to blue in one day. Just by following your recipe: Triclore and the sulfate. The only thing I did different is that I turned off the pump for 24hours and vacuum out to waste next day since the sulfate works killing the phosphate but also as a flokulant. Now I am refilling about 3inches of water, to put clorine and ph to level. Anyway, now is sparkling..thanks!

Pool RX, Phosphate remover chlorine use will crash! Much easier on the skin. Pool people don't want you to know about Pool RX because it puts them out of business!!! Pool RX lasts about 6-months when you can then add a recharge kit. After one year replace the whole unit. Killed all algea even the black hard to kill crap! So Cal with dust, horses nearby so pool maintenance was a night mare until I started the above parsmaters. Simple pool test strip kit, $14 phosphorus test kit, and I use chlorine tabs with cyaranic acid (stabilizes chlorine). Good quality auto pool cleaner and you will spend allot less time messing with your pool and enjoying it more!!!

I just got a small above ground and I'm having to learn. I cleaned pools for a campground when I was a teenager so I forgot everything lol. I was just wondering why you can't just put a algae eating fish in the pool ? Ha ha ha ha just joking. This is the best channel by far for info direct and to the point. New sub here.

Cyanuric acid level is the x-factor on how to treat algae in the swim season. PR1000 works great in certain situations, and sodium bromide in others. I too am not for killing algae with trace metals. Good info here though! Especially mentioning trichlor shock as most will just use cal hypo all the time.

Remember to keep your filter clean and running long enough AND that your other chemicals are in the ideal ranges.

To add one more thing. Make sure the cyanaric acid lvlis either ideal or lower than ideal .To much can block or slow the chlorine process down to the point you'll have to use 3,4,5× times as much shock to be effective. Great video!! I did not know that phosphates are released when the algae is killed.

I love you man! 😁 I consider you my pool guru. Thank you, thank you, thank you! 🙏🏻 and this episode is particularly helpful/timely this time of year in Phoenix, with the current heat wave and monsoons about to begin.

Absolutely, thank you for your kind comments and thank you for watching. Yes our monsoons and haboobs are brutal. But to be honest when I used to work for other Pool Service companies. It took the owner sometimes a long time to get any work done on repairs for a pool so in the meantime, if we had a big monsoon storm, the pool was trashed. I have all of my clients pools set up so well that even when we have a big dust storm, they do quite well.

Thank you so much for this video. Especially for skipping the BS. I shocked the pool the first day and added PR-10000-QT Phosphate Remover the second day. The water turned crystal clear in less than a day. Glad I didn't waste money on algaecides. Thanks again.

This was very helpful. The house we moved into has many many trees around in the yard. I get way more pollen off of them. And there is a stupid planting area in the screened in lanai. I think I am getting a lot of that in the pool and it is causing the algae. Thanks so much for all the useful information.

by far most education thus far from any video on topic. I am laughing as I had a large fight with algae last year and the store took me for a ride "buy this that this that, etc.). $300-400 later, water test again. "Phosphates are up." How?! (me)... Store (many reasons but more algaceide).. $500 later... I begin to think analytically.... Why spend $500 I could empty and refill for 750 35000 gallons. thanks for this lesson.

Great video, I'd like to point out that algae also needs nitrates and at least trace amounts of iron. but for sure, lanthanum chloride is probably the most cost effective way to reduce phosphates. I'll have to try the PR-1000 you recommend because we are dealing with precipitant issues right now, looks like a pool full of milk :(
