Manhattan Penthouses are so high up that most of the sounds of the city streets do not reach their balconies. What sound does reach that high up are completely deadened by very good insulation and often double-glazed windows. The lack of nature's sounds is common in all large cities. Be well :)

@@MoreAdamCouser not by far. I did a quick search. one penthouse is selling for 250 million. I'd also mention how crazy high the maintenance fees (HOA) and property taxes must be. but I guess if you can afford to pay 250 million for a condo, hoa and property taxes are just a couple of drops of water. also, I heard that half the condos in billionaires row are actually empty and they're property investments here's something you may find interesting when it comes to property taxes not just in NYC but suburbs as well. the house you bought around 1970 for 20 or 25k now goes for about half a million or more. and you probably end up paying as much in property taxes a year as you did for the house itself. and this is your average house with a yard the size of a stamp. not a mansion with a huge yard.property taxes on a 2 million dollar house can choke a pig

Yes, there is a billionaires row in Manhattan. Honestly, most people who can afford a place like this don't have just one home, so they can have apartments in cities, cabins in mountains, beach houses, etc... they don't have to choose. When looking at real estate like this you do have to factor in the location though, because it is part of the experience of living in the apartment. So many people who live in NYC do not spend a ton of time in their apartments, because there is so much to do all the time. That experience of living right in the heart of the city with central park outside your doorstep is part of what makes these homes so valuable. That plane on the dock is part of the USS Intrepid museum, which is a retired aircraft carrier from WWII. You can go on and tour the ship along with a bunch of planes, a space shuttle and more. I remember going as a kid but they have added so much more since then. It is a fixture along the west side highway in Manhattan.

The people who live in this area of Manhattan typically own more than one residence in the states. They will have a high-rise dwelling and a mansion on Long Island, NY, Connecticut, Florida , Los Angeles, and other areas. Elevators are fast, so it would be less than 5 minutes. The person living in a place like this could be in almost any industry. They could be in finance, Industry moguls, owner of sports franchises, entertainer, etc.

I've been fairly high up on both on windy days and you definitely felt motion. ------ "Most skyscrapers can easily move several feet in either direction, like a swaying tree, without damaging their structural integrity. The main problem with this horizontal movement is how it affects the people inside. If the building moves a substantial horizontal distance, the occupants will definitely feel it."

I have a friend who has lived in NYC most of his life. He just doesn't relate when I talk about listening to the birds, crickets, cicadas and wind in the trees. He's never been around that and isn't moved by it. Any well-made building will have muffled or silenced the street sounds after just a few stories up and even in NYC, you don't hear much when you're in a high-rise building, especially a luxury residence.

2:02 It's an unofficial term, but there is a section South of Central Park where there are a series of extremely tall residence buildings, like the one this condo is in, and they are EXTREMELY expensive, even for New York. Hence why it is called Billionaire's Row, because you literally have to have a net worth of at least $500 million to be able to even get into the lower apartments. What's funny is that a lot of the condos have been bought but don't get lived in, because billionaires from around the world buy the units as a secure investment. It is an investment because if there is one thing that will never go down in price in NYC, it's dollars per square foot. A 1,000 sq ft apartment in NYC can rent for like $4,000 and have a waitlist of tenants lining up to rent it. So, buying this unit in the video for $54 million, in like 10 years it'll be worth something around $60+ million.

The people who buy these 54 million penthouses in New York are billionaire businessmen that own mansions in other places like Texas, Florida etc. They go to New York on business all the time so the penthouse is used almost like a hotel but this way they can leave their belongings behind and not have to share a bed etc

No, I would not buy that apartment, and here's why: As cool as it is, there have been many reported issues in the building. The biggest issue for me is that due to the extreme height, the building sways a lot. That is by design, and I'm sure you would get used to it, but I hear there are major concerns with the elevators and power. On windy days, it's not uncommon for the elevators to shut down, leaving people trapped for sometimes up to two hours. Screw that. NYC is a great city, but I'd spend my money on an awesome condo in Tribeca or Chelsea personally.

Tune New Yorker that is the ultimate luxury because 95% of New York City is apartments. Billionaires Road (It’s a real road) is also where the people that are coming into the country illegally like from Venezuela are demanding to stay in the penthouse and apartments that aren’t occupied at the moment! They’re funny! I live in a shared brownstone on 101st St. in Spanish Harlem, which is really far from there and I pay $1400 a month for a room! And yeah, that apartment is pretty sweet!

Most people on Billionaires' Row don't live in the properties they buy; they purchase them expecting the value to increase over the years.

Billionaires can afford it so it’s not a big deal…they probably have a massive mansion somewhere

It cost that much because in New York City 1 in 24 people are MILLIONAIRES!!! Also New York City is the Fashion and Financial Center of the World so you have to consider that.

If I had 54 million, I'd have a farmstead somewhere in the rockies and about 1,000 acres of ranch land. I want flowing brooks and streams, meadows, evergreen forests, and natural beauty in every direction. I used to sit on the hill side on my 8 acre homestead and wwtch the wildlife. Id encounter foxes, bear, coyotes, and deer. I miss those days.

It's funny you mentioned what would this be worth in the middle of nowhere. Well I've got some news for you. They are planning to build the tallest skyscraper in the USA in Oklahoma City. How's that for being in the middle of nowhere. Gotta love the USAs adventurous spirit bro.
