I remember 25 years ago, when Lanthimos was directing some of the most beautiful and creative video clips for the Greek music industry. And now look at him, receiving a Golden Globe! I feel so proud of his accomplishments but also his bubbly, smart personality, representing Greece in such a graceful way! Us Greeks grew a bit taller from pride today. Thank you Yorgo! Went to the movies yesterday and ended up seeing Poor Things by mistake. We had planned on watching American Fiction and my son had gotten the tickets for Jan. 11th. When the usher told us we were there a week early I asked him what we should change the tickets for. He recommended Poor Things and I’m glad he did! Movie of the year, NO DOUBT!

Yorgos films may no be for everybody but they are for me. One of the most exciting directors of the last decade. So happy he is getting this recognition and i hope he continues to get the freedom and budget to make the films HE WANTS.

Poor Things was excellent. Arguably the best movie of the year with Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo giving Oscar worthy performances. Yorgos is a visionary genius and Tony McNamara is a master of dialogue. This is what that Barbie movie wished it could do.

He's actually not really and that's what's hilarious. I was at a Q&A for Poor Things and the interviewer asked him if he was a troubled art kid, and he responded by saying he didn't really want to make movies and just liked playing basketball. That became even funnier when the movie played afterwards.

Εγώ δεν είδα την ταινία, ούτε πρόκειται να τη δω. Δε σνομπάρω το σκηνοθέτη κλπ όπως κάποιοι αναφέρουν οτι μισούμε ή ζηλεύουμε τους Έλληνες. Αντιθέτως! Χαίρομαι πολύ που ένας Έλληνας έκανε τη χώρα μας να ακουστεί. Απλώς δε μου αρέσει αυτού του είδους η οπτική... Δε μου αρέσουν οι φουτουριστικες εικόνες μπλεγμένες με αλληγορία.. με βάση το τρέιλερ μιλώ πάντα! Δε μου προκάλεσε κανένα ενδιαφέρον. Κουραστικό μου φάνηκε. Έμενα προσωπικά μου αρέσουν οι πιο κλασσικές ταινίες- αν μπορώ να τις αποκαλώ έτσι δεν είμαι γνώστης- όπου δε χρειάζονται όλα αυτά τα φαντεζι επεξεργασμενα οπτικά μέσα.. Παράδειγμα, μια ταινία πριν λιγα χρόνια που λάτρεψα και με μάγεψε ηταν το Call me by your name και μια του 1993 μεταφορά απο βιβλίο the secret garden, όπως και το great expectations του 1998. Αυτός ο κινηματογράφος μου αρεσει και τον θεωρώ ποιοτικό. Να σας πω την αλήθεια τώρα αυτο εδω.... μου κανει λιγο αχταρμάς γιατί μαλλον κατάλαβε ο Λανθιμος σε τι αχταρμά εποχες ζούμε.. σου λεει αμα δωσω ποιότητα δε θα βγαλω λεφτα ποτε.

Πιο λίγο χρόνο θα σου έπαιρνε να δεις την ταινία και να σχολιάσεις παρά να σκεφτείς και να γράψεις αυτή τη παράγραφο για να μας δείξεις ότι "δεν σνομπάρεις". Σου κάνει λίγο αχταρμάς.. το ΤΡΕΗΛΕΡ της ταινίας! Και ήρθες να μας το πεις εδώ που παίρνει βραβείο η ταινία. Αλλά δεν σνομπάρεις..

I got to see Barbie on a flight from Montreal to São Paulo and I could only stand it for 5 minutes. What an absolutely ridiculous notion! 8 kept fast forwarding it to see if maybe I was missing the point , but to no avail. Americanism at its very worst.

Lanthimos is a brilliant director. Too bad his own homeland, Greece, had nothing to do with this. If anything it helped to boot him out of his after his first masterpiece DOGTOOTH. As a Greek i admire his ability and his persistence to get where he is today.

Idk why you have to say that Greece has nothing to do with this but I want to mention that he studied filmography in Greece, made many films here and works with Greek people all the time. Every time a Greek person wins a foreign award Greeks run to the comments to remind us that Greece doesn’t deserve anything. Είναι και αυτός κομμάτι της εικόνας μας όσο και να μας χαρακτηρίζει η σαπίλα. Ας αποδεχτούμε και τα καλά όταν είναι εκεί.

@tomrossy ..... on the contrary, what I wanted to emphasize is that all we can attest to is the fact he was born here and made his debut. That's all. DOGTOOTH was the last film in 2009 he made incorporating Greek actors. He did not receive due credit and was not helped by the state to further his art form. This is usually the route many talented Greeks choose when they obviously expect nothing else.

Και του πετάνε κάνα κόκκαλο υπό μορφήν βραβείου αποστρατείας, τιμητικής εκδήλωσης μετά πολλών χασμουρητών. Ή άμα φύγει στο εξωτερικό."

@@tomrossyΔιαφωνώ φίλε. Ο Λανθιμος αν έμενε στην Ελλάδα ακόμη βιντεοκλίπ θα σκηνοθετούσε. Δεν έβρισκε χρηματοδοτες στην Ελλάδα ( όπως άλλωστε έχει δηλώσει καλυμμένα σε συνέντευξη) προφανώς διότι κάποιοι άλλοι γλειφτες και λιγότερο ταλαντούχοι σκηνοθέτες τσεπώνουν τις κρατικές επιχορηγησεις...βλέπε Λιγνάδη με Ρουβά στην Επίδαυρο... Επίσης σπούδασε σε ιδιωτική σχολή και όχι π.χ στο Εθνικό θέατρο. Άρα τι οφείλει σε αυτή τη χώρα και γιατί αποτελεί κομμάτι της εικόνας της εφόσον τα κατάφερε 100% μόνος του; Εμείς είμαστε απλά περήφανοι γιατί εκείνος γλίτωσε από τη σαπίλα μας.

This literally stuns the crap out of me, because poor things is perhaps the worst film I’ve ever seen in my life. I’ve talk to other people and they feel the same way. It was literally the most boring piece of crap and I had to pay to see it. This is why I pay absolutely no attention to awards and don’t watch them.
