Interesting fact: In the interwar period, Czechoslovakia was the tenth richest state in the world, one of the most industrialized state. See how many car brands Czechoslovakia had at that time, how many aircraft brands were produced, etc.

The GDP is a misleading and often a meaningless indicator as it generally doesn't reflect what one person can buy, use or buy in a particular country. The PPP or purchasing power parity would be by far better!
@froodtube
@froodtube Жыл бұрын
Depends what you are looking at. GDP is a better measure of a countries true wealth and power. Since the law of supply and demand applies regionally, in poor countries people can't afford the nicer things so prices drop and their money stretches further especially for basic goods. PPP is a better measure of quality of life, and obviously poorer countries' leaders prefer PPP because it makes them look better. The catch is PPP only marginally takes into account the lower quality of just about everything. If you are willing to accept a wooden shack with a leaking roof, lada, and goat cheese are "more or less" the equivalent of a modern home with air conditioning, a Mercedes, and Gruyere then PPP will tell you those people are living more or less at the same standard.

this literally showed germany having and other big economies having the largest per capita too though, so idk what you are on about lol.. Germany has a GDP of 45,7K USD right now which is about the highest of any nation with a lot of citizens. Some small states often used by rich to avoid taxes have in theory a higher GDP like Luxemburg or Ireland which is acutally one of the reasons gdp/capita growth has stagnated in some european states recently given the GDP was pretty much exported to other countries by e.g. Amazon, Apple & more.

The Swiss people will be surprised in a few years when they discover that their managed pension funds are worth little if even exist. The reason that Switzerland is wealthy is that there are so many international companies with HO in Switzerland for tax reasons paying a low amount of tax but that tax spread to a population of 7 million in Switzerland is a lot per head that is wasted witha a large inefficient public sector/government.

Lithuania has paid a heavy price for its 'riches" - its population saw a 2 time decrease, it was forced to close its Ignalina Nuclear Power Stations and turned from energy producer into energy dependent country, it lost most of its industries (shipbuilding, chemical industry, electronics, construction industry, ), and now is earning money from agriculture and transit, however, it has been loosing its transit state as Russia and Belorussia (Lithuania's largest contractors) have been redirecting their transit flows because Lithuania is a non-friendly country and cannot be trusted. All its well-being is from EU injections. When Lithuania left the USSR, it has 0 (ZERO) debt, now the state debt is 35% of its annual GDP. So this is not the end of the story. In the near future the EU stops inflowing money into the Baltic States. When they start living on what they are producing and earning, then we will be able to assess its success.

In the 60's Poland's GDP was low due to the WWII, and later even more devastated by communism. Also, very interesting to see that in 60's Bulgaria's GDP was not that far from the Netherlands or Ireland. As a polish guy, I am actually far from being russophobic but I guess we just hate Moscow power for sucking every drop of money, resources, and energy from neighboring countries, also including simple russians. We also should be very careful for taking all what the west offer. We just need to be aware that there is no friednship between countries, there is only bussines matter.

The Greek folk, in most strongly retaining their traditions by upholding family values, ancient culture and Godly responsibility, uniquely have the lowest household and personal debt in Europe and the West (also accounting for the American lifestyle). A population that lives within its means, rejecting credit and spending only what it has earned, is a thorn in the side of the agenda for central banking dependency that gobbles up sovereign land and treasure, and this is why Greece was targeted for structural enslavement (political pelf branded as public debt spent on white elephants) that would be referenced as a slur upon the People themselves. In fact, the fundamental metrics compared to Portugal, Spain and even Italy are favourable in regard to stability, even while the country was physically besieged at its borders like no other, and, unlike France and Germany, while still fully honouring treaties for the funding and practice of European defense. This regional and global agenda of financial liquidation is why one of the major industrial bases of Greece (a country central to shipping) was dismantled by autocratic machinations to redirect construction contracts to other centres such as Holland and Germany, in return for favourable clout when those northern 'Members' sat around their masters' table.

The truth is that Norway was a fairly rich country even before we found the oil in 1967, and started pumping the oil up in 1969 ! But no foreigner will believe that ! :( Because people from other countries are only concerned that we are so incredibly rich because of the oil ! But Norway has made a lot of money and had income on many other things than just the oil ! But the oil is sort of like the status income of our country :) Norway was a rich country before oil too, but oil made us even much richer :) And now we Norwegians laugh all the way to the bank or ATM, hehe Lol :) That being said, I have great respect for other countries that do good on this ranking too ! Question for the author of the video. Where is the SFR Yugoslavia that existed until 1991? How have Slovenia and Northern Macedonia been on the list since 1990, and achieved independence in 1991 and 1992? Montenegro and Serbia were state unions until 2006, and Montenegro has appeared in this video since 2000. And the strangest thing is Kosovo, which is a province in Serbia until 2008, when it declared illegal and unrecognized independence, and in the video it appears in 2000.

Bulgaria actually hasn't grown economically that much. Higher earnings per capita become meaningless when you realise that the people earning decent wages actually live and work abroad, while the Bulgarians in Bulgaria are working in old unkept workhouses, getting payed peanuts, usually for foreign-owned businesses that are here only so they can avoid higher taxes... Not to mention how the EU mingles with national questions it has no business mingling in constantly. Truth is, the EU is a brainless economic alliance created to benefit only its original creators. It doesn't care if a country is doing well unless it actively drags it down. It doesn't care about culture, unless that culture is profitable. I think you get my point-GDP per capita doesn't really show anything. If the EU was any good it would help us fight corruption and rebuild our country's infrastructure and industries, develop socially (in terms of LGBT right, women's rights and social nets that help vulnerable people) but Instead it turns a blind eye to these things and goes on to mingle in national questions that matter to us (our veto on RNM, for example. The solution won't be pro -bulgarian one) The EU doesn't care about its individual member states. The history of this damned union is one of crisis after crisis and lots of talking with close to zero action. I don't know what to tell you except maybe try to understand why someone might be anti-EU instead of trying to smugly gain the upper hand with arbitrary numbers...
