Hello there, didn't expect to see me again after all these years, eh? A friend convinced me to upload this lil' animation on this channel, where I show off my take on the Chapter 3 secret boss for Deltarune.
So with that being said, say hello to "Pete n VB" (Yes that's his whole name).
An old cartoon protagonist from a cancelled show who vows to take revenge on the TV studio, for cancelling his creators passion.
Consider this as a teaser cuz I have future plans for this dude, lul. In the form of an animation. I'm not 100% sure if I want to turn this into a fangame, but we'll just have to see.

genuinely, this is stands out to me as the most believable execution of the whole "friend inside me" theory for deltarune. i personally never thought it could really fit the tone of the game at all, but here you actually have me sold with how pete is written and how the gang reacts to him, awesome work !!

I dunno about "modelled" but it was definitely inspired from it. I tried to translate that old monochromatic feel like alot of old cartoons do, and take inspiration from the silly Toby Fox shitpost, whilst also make him unique enough to stand out from the rest of the secret bosses. I suppose the main inspiration when it came to the coloring was from this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y5amdLhlyL3QgKc.htmlsi=9tAQSzGUNrsEr1Cb it really gave me a good idea on how to color him.

This has to be one of the best concepts, most Deltarune and secret bosses struggle to find their own footing and often retread on Spamton or jevil this guy is really unique for a boss concept Also having the green soul is kind of cool since he has a sick twisted sense of kindness for his creator and is willing to do anything to make them happy

Make em stand out, write a different story, don't make it too similar, but make them all have in common with one thing. Someone got contact and things went wrong, and have a toy theme going. That's the mindset I have when I created Pete. For example: Jevil (Jack in the box) - He became so chaotic to the point of him becoming destructive. This change made him crazy, but he does not seem to worry too much about it. He may prefer freedom over a cage, but he'd still be crazily joyous regardless of what he gets. (Accepts Fate) Spamton (Puppet on a string) - Lost it all when he lost contact to a certain person. He lost his room, his wealth, his friends and has to live all alone in the dump, to desperately try to go back on top. He thought all was lost and had nowhere to go, until a Lightner showed their presence to him. An opportunity was given where he can cheat his way out of his fate (Neo). But he realized that he can't cheat it just yet, it'd require a soul. (Strongly Denies Fate) Pete n VB (Doll with a voice box) - From a protagonist to a successful show, to a forgotten actor to a now cancelled one. He accepts the fact that his show was cancelled, but he can't bare the thought that his creator/animator's passion show was taken away from him. Which filled Pete with fury and hatred. He vowed to take revenge on the studio by burning it down to the ground. But he can't proceed with his plans, if he knows that there are Lightners lurking around. So for now, he'll act like a delusional cowboy who thinks his "western cartoon" was a real event, to trick the Lightners into bringing him to his locked studio room. To take them all out silently. (Accepts Fate)

It’s too Undertale related to be an actual secret boss using the green soul and a direct reference to Undertale itself is kind of a bit too much Delta and Undertale are separate universes that are connected sure but they’re not directly connected

He may be unhinged, but he still stays true to what he is. A cowboy protagonist, so the theme had to be related to that. Not all secret bosses need an epic intense song.

i think its incredibly impressive how much you managed to turn the "friend inside me" gimmick into an actual thing that could exist with in deltarune. The way you applied it is so clever. That little "there's a friend inside us all" line really sells it for me. The way you also manage to tie it into Kris with the player, and the implication that Pete may have some sort of gaster "friend" inside him is a really cool concept. Great idea all around.

This is real damn nicely done! Though I'd make a suggestion- change the green bullet to another color, since Green is a healing attack color in deltarune it's a bit confusing to see. And Dark Green is technically used for Spamton NEO, but not as a harm, but as a wall during the telephone attack. Not sure what color would work better, though.

Fully green projectiles are used for healing, but under the green soul, anything that got green and white within are parry-able. White projectiles are often represented as hurtful, so a mix indicates that it isn't safe and it requires you to parry it to get rid of it. As if the projectile itself got a shield.

I think I got a good backstory for this guy. Pete 'n' VB is the ghost of a long dead darkener from a western style TV show that was canceled decades ago. His spirit lingers on in the dark world, full of regret that his show didn't see through to the end and feels like he failed his home as its sheriff and that he failed the show's creator. So when Pete meets Kris for the first time, he uses them as an opportunity to finally fulfill what he couldn't when he was alive, to return to his show and finish his story. As far as Pete is concerned, whether he wins or loses to the lighteners, this is his final battle. When the battle ends, he thanks Kris for humoring him with one final battle, and he disappears. The spirit of the west finally resting in peace.

Емаё, это просто великолепно! Как правило, секретные боссы должны быть жуткими и тому подобное. Его дизайн это просто шедевр! Также, что мне ещё нравится, так это отличное вписывание в сюжет 3 главы. Место событий будет происходить в телевизионном мире (ну что-то в этом роде), а лор этого ковбоя отлично сочитется со всем выше перечисленным.

Ok this is hands down my favorite take on a "Woody theory" secret boss! The dialogue a great too, but I would personally change a few things in the dialogue to make it sound just a bit more "deltarunish". here's what I'd write: Pete:OVER THERE, PARTNER! MY HUMBLE ABODE IS RIGHT UP YONDER! (unlocks and opens door) My home..... IT'S BEEN AGES SINCE I DONE SEEN MY OL ABODE. Susie:Yeah it's really... ... colorful? Pete: ISN'T IT A BEAUT? THOUGHT I'D NEVER SCENE THIS PLACE AGAIN... IF IT WEREN'T FOR YOU LIL PARTNER. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT. Can't believe that you're all so S T U P I D. Susie:Hey,what the...!?Did you just shoot at us!? Pete:.. ...Yes Susie:What the hell!?!?!?! WHY!?!?!??! Pete:(Laughs) AIN'T IT OBVIOUS I NEED YOU LIGHTNERS OUT THE WAY. YOU SEE, I'VE HAD SOME OTHER PLAN BEFORE MEETIN YOU,KRIS.
