Two Wheels Big Life

3 жыл бұрын

Let’s go back to the beginning - we’ve been living this past year in an 8x10 REI Kingdom 6 tent. And this tent has seen a lot of action. We always knew that the tent was only going to be temporary - in fact we lived in it a lot longer than even we expected. When we first headed out our kids were even taking bets that we would only last a month. (guess we proved them wrong).

Hi. Billy here. Your gonna love you bunk house camper. My preference is the time out camper. But the bunk house is also a quality unit. I have pulled a time out since 1977 or 78. Shure your going to have a bit more weight but if loaded correctly you shouldn't have much more than 20 LPS of of tung weight. Some tips maybe you don't know yet. It's a bit more top heavy , so be careful while making a U turn. Also add a little more stoping distance. Watch how you stop on a down word hill. It will or can drag you backwards. LoL mostly on gravel. Also to change a tire. Don't worry about a jack. Simply bust the lugs loose then drop you tripods on the side of the flat and your camper is off the ground enough to remove you tire. Also you'll find that for some crazy reason while parked people will tend to lean on you trailer. Don't really know why , it just happens. So I always left my bike in gear. Just so it doesn't move. In the old days they would push it off the side stand. Well your Harley side stand shouldn't unlock. Just saying.vnext since your pulling a bit more weight watch how you park. Try and park so you don't have to back up. LoL I'm not sure if the 08 bunk house has led tail lights. If not it's a great investment for safety. Hope I'm not boring you and may be telling you something you already know. But there may be someone else out there that's thinking about getting a camper for there bike. And this information can help them. Best of luck with your adventure. Your friend. Billy.

Hey guys, great job on the new rig. The electrical system on my Lumina XL is similar, but I also added a Renogy 20-Amp DC-to-DC converter (so my Harley can charge the batteries), and a NOCO GENIUS 10-Amp Smart Charger to use when I have shore power. My XL has been a running joke to see just how much luxury I can pack on it. I have a true fridge, hot and cold running water, toilet & shower, full-ish kitchen with a beautiful countertop, sink basin, and propane stove, and a complete office with a video studio. I have the same heated blanket you're using (in red), and my dog has his heated blanket, too. It's amazing what you can pack into these things with a little bit of ingenuity. Keep up the great work. I love following what you're doing.

It looks very comfortable... and it looks easier to set up then the tent. A heated blanket, LED liighting, maybe a solar fan? You should look into LiFePo4 batteries... they are lighter, carry more capacity, more charge cycles, a superior battery chemistry over a lead acid. Great video... Good to see you guys are still having fun!

Love the bunkhouse trailer . I have one that's a 1998 same color that I bought used in 2008 . it's a fantastic little unit I use every year. I load mine up with all the extras for a home on the road , even an Advanced Elements kayak that stores perfectly across the back in the belly storage. Another great stress reliever not only riding the Goldwing and camping, but to get out on the water when you want and fish and bring home dinner. It's a great lifestyle , I envy you two, You have a new subscriber I'll be watching your journey. Great video content.

If your external area was extended by a little over a metre you could install two separate, adjacent cubicles (made of nylon, with zips) and install a shower and a toilet. (The tent entrance is then moved to the side). Before you laugh yourself stupid, my brother did that. The loo is a portable seat with an odor-reducing chemical in a bucket below the seat and the shower is a 20 litre suspended can with a hose/shower head and tap on it. If you wet yourself down briefly, then soap yourself, then rinse quickly, you will have enough water for two people in that can. The water drains thru a hole in a thick plastic sheet on the floor. So digging a very small drainage hole in the corner is all that is required in hot, dry places. My brother also fitted a large battery that was charged by an expansive, unfolding solar panel and this battery supplied power for lights, electronics, including a laptop and a 24-hour fridge (when everything was folded away he connected a wire to fixed solar panels on top of the trailer and so the battery/fridge could be charged and operate while he drove along the road and remain independent of the truck's generator). Admittedly he has a vehicle rather than a bike so he welded a stainless steel dish to the exhaust manifold under the hood, put a chicken and veges in there and after a five hour drive it was cooked to perfection (I know, I tasted it! - fumes kept out by simple pressure-cooker valve). He also made a solar oven with a very basic, unfolding reflector, looked like a windmill unfolding and this cooked a chicken plus veges in 2 hours.

I spend many years in a Bunkhouse. So glad you have upgraded. A fun and inexpensive way to track places you have been is keychains. I bought souvenir keychains that had rounded edges or rubber ones. I attached them to all of the window zippers so I could grab them and use them as pulls. They were decorative and functional.

Such a great video! I have yet to do touring and camping by motorcycle but I’ve done 15,000 miles so far by bicycle towing a trailer. Towing a cargo trailer has allowed me to carry a few hundred pounds of gear, it’s really nice when you’re riding across a hot dry desert to be able to carry 4 gallons of water, that’s a luxury most people can’t even imagine traveling on bicycles without Trailers. I’m just so thankful for your Good video and it will make my transition into motorcycling with a trailer that much more a reality. I definitely want to travel with a solar panel and, probably won’t have a heated bed but I will certainly have good padding and a toasty warm sleeping bag & good cotton sheets. Cheers to both of you whether you’re at home or out on the road with your “home away from home”!

I skipped ahead and had to go back. Could not believe all of that setup came out of the camper.

Boy oh Boy, you guys are definitely roughing it now 😆. All that equipment appears to add so much weight to what his Harley is having to pull

Looks a LOT easier to set up and tear down than the tent. Plus you're not on the cots or ground. Richard, you have to do a towing comparison after you've pulled it a few times. It would. Really be helpful to me at least. Congratulations on being able to get this discontinued trailer, nice mods too by the way. Jayman...

When you get the chance check out Battle Born lithium batteries. One battery is a 100 amps and they are not heavy.

Oh my, I’ve been commenting on this type trailer & am soooo excited for you! It’s exactly what I want. My husband wants to tow our cargo trailer w/ bike in it then, set up for a trailer week & bike then move on. I think maybe move on sooner or not backtrack & won’t this! Boon docking easier. Let us know how you like it.
