Christ commands us to sing in the new testament doctrine. Now I'm 67 yrs old and a member of the new testament church, the church of Christ. The one he spoke of in Matthew 16:18. So was my parents and grandparents on both sides and I understand clearly about his church and no instruments allowed in worshipping the Father. God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

For angels cannot know the joy that our salvation brings!" He does not redeem fallen angels. He redeems fallen man....endless mystery, a mystery into which angels long to look....

I was reading Psalm 32 this morning, just as I heard this lyric: “my sin (oh the bliss of this glorious thought! ), my sin, not in part but the whole, is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more! I do, too!! ....so I keep singing them by myself, with a friend or two, and keep them playing in my home....they bring teaching, praise, prayer, reflection, historical narratives, in fact....Bible study, as they proclaim the Word. So fine!!! I'm beyond grateful that the treasure of the old sons and hymns is laid up in my heart. This morning I went and found another old one because it began playing in my mind, "While the Ages Roll, I'll Keep on Praising Him" - what a wonderful anticipation we have.

My daddy sings alot of these songs as we drive long distance or while we work. He used to sing even more when I was little. I'm in my 40's and want to surprise him when we go driving soon... The Church of Christ is the predominate ones who have responded; many of them have retained these hymns in acapella; Many from Africa and faraway locations, also. Unfortunately, many "Evangelicals" abandoned the hymn book and choir for a "worship team" of vocalists, drums, guitars and a keyboard. Not wrong, but with the Overhead with no notes to follow, hardly any punctuation, and nothing to take home except our memory and crowded out by our "busy" lives = less time for meditation for the One who saved us and keeps us. Is there any wonder, we find our country in a "dizzy" state of mind less capable of solving our problems, which were not even thought of 60 years ago. There is still a remnant of Believers holding us up. We have a Spiritual problem, not a political one. We desparately need Spiritual leaders and citizens!
