thank god i grew up watching german tv as a kid, since that way i never got tainted by the horrible 4kids dub of one piece which would have stopped me from falling in love with the show as i do now

also cinemas in germany(atleast where I live and I dont live in a big city) do showings of the new movies when they come out/ sometimes even randomly. It's alot of fun watching these movies with other people that also like detective conan.

Doraemon has been always a big TV show for kids here too :3 I was a young kid in the 90 and all kids watched Doraemon.

Doraemon is still airing in Spain, it was a good part of my childhood

I think it's a problem with getting dub-lovers to help popularize it. It's not a first-level anime; you have to like subtitles, then you have to have seen enough anime/manga to get half the jokes, particularly the constant Shounen Jump references, then the references to Japanese television and celebrities. The historical references are probably the least of it.

Doraemon was aired on American TV in 2014, but it was cancelled due to extremely poor marketing, as the series did not receive any advertisement at all besides digital versions of the manga being sold on digital storefronts and Dorayaki being sold in stores with Doraemon's face on it. I feel like if they marketed it better it would have actually worked out. At the same time, another big issue with the series is definitely Nobita. Most American children would definitely not like Nobita, as he constantly cries and relies on Doraemon. Most American children would rather have a strong hero or a main character with a positive attitude than Nobita has. While Peanuts did this with Charlie Brown, it wasn't exactly popular to have a children's series with a main character that has a non-positive attitude until recently. This is a big problem with Doraemon when it was first pitched to Ted Turner in 1985 for the then WTBS channel. Ted Turner turned down the series due to this exact reason, he disliked how Nobita relied constantly on Doraemon and believed children would not be able to relate to Nobita.

Have Doraemon & Pokémon crossover, that could raise awareness in the US. Hell, have Doraemon collaborate with My Hero Academia, that can boost his mainstream presence in the US.

@@mdo7 It sorta make me wonder why Doraemon was not the first choice that Disney picked when putting anime onto Disney+. I could see that working a lot better for them than just licensing random seasons of anime series. It fits much more with the "Disney" image than Bleach does. Plus Doraemon is pretty long, so they'd have content to work with for years to come.

@@Taneuma_563 I think and I’m speculating this: maybe because Doraemon bombed on Disney XD and cancelled, I guess Disney reverted the right back to its Japanese licensor. Maybe Netflix or Crunchyroll should pick up streaming right for Doraemon now the environment is now different. I think this is the right time for Doraemon to now get US audiences. I mean I wouldn’t mind if Doraemon collaborate with Pokémon, or My Hero Academia as a test run to see how many kids in the US will accept Doraemon. 2020 particularly 2022-2023 is now a different environment from 2014. So I think Doraemon should try again in the US.

Bruh for real?! Here in Italy we stopped dubbing it ;-;

​@@MasMaszu2We stopped dubbing the anime in 2006 (but movies and some TV specials still got dubbed in German). But they kept airing the episodes that were dubbed on TV and in 2018 the channel Pro7Maxx started to continue the dub were it left off in 2006 (which was epusode 333). So now the anime gets dubbed in German again and the voiceactors are mainly still the same as before and the dub is so good ^^ But during the times in which the anime wasn't dubbed in German the fanbase was still really active made German Fan Sub and of course the manga never stopped getting translated and many kept buying it :D And yeah like I mentioned the movies were always dubbed and even got special cinema release events:)

@Kyle Miller bro did ya actually watch the English dub presented to Americans...? They've just shamelessly removed all of the very *Asian* things that makes Doraemon awesome. Had they tried to expose Americans to different cultures without worrying too much about Americans finding stuff hard to relate or something, Doraemon would've been a hit. Spain, Portugal and Italy made only minimal changes and are proof of this: Doraemon is a hit there even though those cultures are vastly different from Asian culture.

To be fair it lacks any physical dvd release here

From Wikipedia: "In North America, the edited dub premiered on Cartoon Network on August 30, 2003, with only the first 32 episodes airing before the series was cancelled. This dub, re-titled Knights of the Zodiac, was licensed by DIC Entertainment. The edits made to this dub included cutting overly violent scenes, adding in previously non-existent digital scene transitions, coloring all instances of blood blue and renaming it "magical energies," rewriting the scripts, renaming several characters, and replacing the opening theme, ending theme, background music, and sound effects."

I can still remember a few scenes from the show, like Anpanman head getting wet and the baker rushing to make a new one, and shooting it from the "breadcar", was a lot of fun. Later I also watched Saint Seiya and Sailor Moon, since they were pretty popular at the time, and even had a dubbed version.
