Been checking retailers here in Finland daily since I'd rather buy from a local company than from Lenovo. Just last week the Gigantti chain added it to their website but it says that it will be in stock in July 2022 :( Lenovo's own website gives 6 weeks plus as delivery time estimate. The laptop seems to have everything I'm looking for, good build quality, screen, sound and efficiency.

I got one yesterday. It is overall a really nice and well build machine, but I can't calm down the fans, especially during charging. Even on battery mode, with disabled turbo mode, it also periodically starts the fans and stops 1-2 seconds, later. This is likely intended behavior by the vendor. This happens on idle and when the processor usage peaks up, shortly raising the temperature. Not sure what to think regarding this and whether other laptops behave better in this regard... any idea? The touchpad is overall good, but at the same time a bit "cheap" due to rattling noise, even on soft tapping. It seems to improve though the more I use it, since the left side already definitly "rattles" less... I have a weird issue, which hopefully won't be my dealbreaker: When I plug an USB-C charger (at the moment I did not try the original one), my touchpad slows down with a noticable 500ms delay when moving around the mouse cursor. The sound speaker is a bit thin. Other than that, it seems like a really nice notebook for the price, but I eventually will need to return it, if the touchpad issue remains.

LG Gram 2021: only the 14" is interesting (I have one for 1 month), very competitive in the lightweight segment. I use it laying in bed with an extra tilted adapter on my stomach, and able to type for hours (because lightweight, large keys and touchpad). Larger LG ones don't serve the concept to carry & put easily everywhere (because they are large), hence just overpriced. Forcing a numpad above 14" models is ridiculous (harmful for the whole keyboard - makes your palm rest unbalanced). In case need a larger screen, use an external one. In case need performance, get a desktop machine (at the time you really need).

I have the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro slim 14" touch screen. Until it developed lines across the bottom one third of it's screen after about 10 months from new, it was good. Currently under repair via the seller's protocol. The web showed me that this is NOT and unknown problem. Print screen command produced an image free of the lines, which suggest this is a hardware problem. The other thing I noticed is that the screen cannot fold fully back - hard to imagine so stupid a limitation being included in manufacture as you can completely ***k the thing without trying.

I mostly listened to Dave2D but he or most other channels doesn't / aren't critical enough to call out the BS that goes with laptops these days when you actually GET/USE the products after buying them only to find out their battery life is shyt, the Ram, battery or Wi-Fi card is not upgradable, there is no Ethernet port to hook up directly with a wire to the router/modem if there is a problem connecting to Wi-Fi...and you need to continue working remotely and not get in trouble...the laptops are too heavy to hold and carry around, lack of proper USB ports for extended USB extenders for more connections when working without a nearby charging wall socket and need to rely on a power bank, or want to work with wireless keyboard or mouse. And laptops that don't support certain programs properly or at all i.e. MacBooks - adobe editing, printing to printers (unlinkable on mac's but can do so on windows laptops?) Etc. Do Lenovo legions support/have all these features Josh?

What about the Microsoft surface 4? The amd version seems rly good. Always wondering why so little people talk about it. Yes performance is low for the price, but the build quality and the screen are super good. also battery life *-* Is there something Im missing ?
@traicetea
@traicetea 2 жыл бұрын
You answer the question yourself. It's way overpriced given the performance it offers. Build quality can't alone justify the price. It's like getting a nice car but can't run then what's the point? Plus, there are many many well built laptops from well known brand. The Surface devices this year make Macbook look reasonably priced in comparison. And I'm a lifetime Windows user.
@User-cb4jm
@User-cb4jm 2 жыл бұрын
The Surface Laptop 4 is a fine choice but the hardware itself is barely updated past the original model. Port selection is woeful and bezels comically thick, with only a single USB-C, the trackpad and keyboard are good, the build quality is fine but we have a Surface Laptop 3 at home and the hinge creaks loudly, the display is nothing to shout about, yes it’s higher res than 1080p but it’s bad next to a 2016 MacBook Pro from 5 years ago let alone the best XPS and MacBook screens of 2021. My main issue on the one is the very uneven backlight bleed from the bottom and the screen itself lacks a anti reflective coating of any sort and the fairly poor contrast. My MacBook Pro 14 absolutely smashes it out of the water, as expected. Again it’s fine, sort of like a Windows equivalent of a MacBook, built from the same company that makes the OS. But the Ryzen chips are a year old and the Intel chips aren’t great from a performance, heat or battery life point anyway. You’re probably just better off with a M1 MacBook Air that has better battery, has better processor and graphics power and doesn’t get hot at all underneath (unlike the Surface we have that does even on light tasks). It was a closer call before Apple Silicon but now why bother unless you have specialist software, but for general use nah just get the M1 MacBook Air unless you specifically need a 15in ultrabook.
@User-cb4jm
@User-cb4jm 2 жыл бұрын
m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bd-EiqqbvqzNc2Q.html This answers your question. Apple Silicon makes the Surface Laptop 4 irrelevant. Better performance even more different when unplugged, good graphics for the category, nearly no heat and better battery life. Physical hardware like the screen quality, build quality, speakers, keyboard and trackpad are at least equal or better on the MacBook Air. You can pay base model money and get a Core i5 or Ryzen 5 Surface or get a M1 chip which beats a Core i7 easily. Your pick.

@@traicetea I think there is no other windows laptop with a similar build quality. the xps is rly not my cup of tee, with this carbon look. The price isnt too bad. I found the 13 inch one with ryzen 4680u 8 gb ram and (yes only) 128gb storage for 700€, thats ok. If u upgrade to 500gb its around 870€ so. The decision is windows laptop with less performance or macbook with alot of performance, but macOS. Maybe it was just a tough decision for me cuz I love windows so much and windows 11 also looks great.

I think Microsoft kind of turning into Apple but not in the good kind. Instead of really improve the Surface product (performance, design) and offer more value, they decided to try to milk every $$$ they can from uninformed customers with underperformed/underfeatured products.

I also switched from a 15 to a 16. The display is so much improved. That 50-60 nits of additional brightness have made a huge difference in usability. I'd say the best way to think about the LG Gram 16 is that it is an X1 Carbon that loses some of its stiff construction to get a huge display and even more battery life.

YEAH, that's a *5000 series.* They have dim (300 nit), especially the UHD versions (>400 nit). Most of these Inspirons also have full-size SD card readers, which many of your favorite picks do not. Since almost all digital cameras use full-size SD cards, that matters if using a laptop for photography review.
