Public holidays, or bank holidays as they are called in the UK, are spread throughout the year and mark religious, historical and special events. Many of London's shops, attractions and businesses stay open throughout the public holidays. Make sure to check opening times before visiting on these days, as some places have reduced hours while others might not open at all. Services on public transport might also be reduced. Plan your journey in advance on the Transport for London website. The UK has eight public holidays. Make plans for the upcoming Easter weekend, which includes the Good Friday bank holiday (15 April) and Easter Monday bank holiday (18 April). Easter changes dates every year School holidays School term dates change from year to year and differ from school to school. Local authority-run schools and independent schools sometimes have different term dates. Traditionally, the school year has three terms, with short mid-term (half-term) breaks and a longer break over the summer: Summer holiday: late July to early September Autumn half-term: last week of October Christmas holidays: late December to early January Spring half-term: one week in mid-February Easter holidays: two weeks either side of Easter Sunday Summer half-term: one week at end of May or early June However, many local authorities have adopted a standard school year, which is made up of six terms, each of a similar length. Find out more about school holidays and half term in London. Survey of twelve tourist nations Urlaubtours asked 8,100 Germans about their assessment of tourists from twelve nations. In addition to their own compatriots, the survey focused on the British, Chinese, French, Italians, Japanese, Dutch, Austrians, Poles, Swiss, Americans and the aforementioned Russian citizens. The British are in no way inferior to the Russians The poor manners also play a decisive role in the low popularity of the Brits, who occupy the penultimate place in the list of favourites. In addition, 42 percent of those surveyed consider the eating habits of the British to be inappropriate and perceive them as rather unattractive.

Trick or treat at Hallowe'en is not a British tradition - it's American. It didn't exist in the UK before the 1970s at the earliest. There isn't any indication in literature of folklore that there was any celebration at the time we call Christmas - most of the alleged pagan origins were invented by the Victorians (Christmas and the winter solstice were 3 weeks apart from each other before 1752). New Year's Eve is more widespread than you imply. The way videos like this keep getting things wrong is both hilarious and worrying, somebody might actually believe them.

Thank you. What we class as tradition changes, doesn’t it? I went to a Salvation Army Halloween party back in the 1960’s in the Uk. Many prime would say that’s a long enough time for such events to be established as a tradition. I agree about Christmas but, again, many people consider that things dating back to the Victorian era are now a tradition. Most people celebrating all these events nowadays will consider them to be traditional. Thanks for your viewpoint
