We use a kiln that plugs into the wall which is 40 - 45 litres. Approx 13 inches wide and deep INSIDE. Kiln can fire up to 1200oC.

Hi, do you have any suggestions to do a tiny repair on a gold trim on a piece of imari? It was left in microwave for 3 seconds. Thanks

Does anyone have any way of contacting her outside of youtube? Looks like the last time she updating anything here was in 2011.

Hi Christine, My grandmother painted china and used real gold coin and clove oil to make her own gold for trimming. Firing at 012, the gold comes out of the kiln black. She used a glass fiber burnishing tool to polish off the black oxidized gold and get it to shine gold. I have a plate she did not finish and I've tried to burnish it with her gold burnishing tool and it is remaining black. Do you have any knowledge or help with how to get the gold to shine? Thank you. Liz

Anthony Smith if you have liquid bright gold you want to thin then there are many things you can use, but most painters would tell you to use gold thinners as they are specifically made for this purpose. They can be purchased from Held of Harrogate for a couple of quid. If you Google them you will get their website. However if it was me thinning gold - I use any thinners. Even thinners used for car spraying works, as does PURE artist's turpentine. Hope this helps. Christine

Try any supplier of lustres. If you are in UK try Heraeus or Johnson Mathey or Held of Harrogate.

thanks, I am in the US. I checked their website and see they have to fire. Is there something that can paint onto finished porcelain without firing?

There is a type of paint called "Porcelaine" that can be matured in a normal commercial oven. That is all I know about!

Hi Christine, I am quite intrigued by your porcelain art. I am an enthusiast how would like to learn the methods without any prior art formal education, could you guide as to how to start learning the art.

Dear Jackie, you mention thinning the gold. I have several jars of liquid bright gold handed down from my mother. What can I use to thin these back to a usable state?

My wife bought a baroque coffeepot with gold lined edges. It is Bavaria porcelain (Johann Seltmann). Unfortunately, the gold decoration has partially vanished. The former owner must have been careless while washing it, maybe used the wrong detergent. I wonder if this can be restored.
@christine148a6 жыл бұрын
If it is definitely porcelain rather than china then the chances are it can be refired to be restored. What you need is someone in your area that does gold work. You do not say if it is burnished gold or bright gold? Due to the fact that gold sits on the surface of the porcelain and does not go under the glaze it means that if you use an abrasive cloth when washing you can scratch and damage the surface and the gold will eventually be removed. If you go to www.firebrickart.com there is a contact for info.

Hi Jackie I am from South Africa, Where can I find the gold gilding that you are using, can I purchase direct from you?
@christine148a7 жыл бұрын
This needs to be fired in a kiln. It is available from Held of Harrogate along with any other supplier of porcelain painting supplies.
