I don’t agree. I think it’s rather selfish to write off your old dog. A new dog is going to take time and patience, all which should be allocated to your aging best friend. No, you don’t go looking for your replacement dog when the one you have gets old.That’s callousness.

Wow, really? We weren’t “writing off” Athena. She LOVES being around as many dogs as possible so Pork Roll gave her an extra boost. She took him in like a little baby & she loves being a mama dog. She wanted the best for her little brother Dime and knew that he needed a companion for once she crossed over the rainbow bridge.

My dog loves getting new toys but she has her favorites and I have had to buy several of them. So now I always make sure to buy a pair when I go out. She’s so thankful when she gets her gifts! So now she has two baskets full of toys that she has to knock over after every time I clean them up! She’s like “No mom, I want them all over the floor for easy access!!

We added a dog to our family when I was 9. I went right out and bought her a squeaky toy. I'm in my 70's, and I've still got it. It's yellow with age, but otherwise in perfect condition. Oh, and it still squeaks.

Whoever cut his ears off should be charged with abuse as well.

Yes!! Most people cross the street when I walk my pit mix. Cracks me up, but I feel safe. I have no doubt if anyone ever tried to harm me or him, he would defend.

@@LH23511 You're just proving their point. That dog was off leash, untrained, without people teaching it how to behave. Many dogs on the street will behave that way. Pitties have gotten inbred for aggression at this point due to bad practices on raising them, and for the unique way in which they attack. It's actually estimated that there are MORE dog bites from labradors than there are from pitbulls in family situations, but the labradors *let go*. Pitbulls instincts mean they grab on and hold, which can cause a lot more damage, and leads to the bites being more serious and thus more reported. We had a Rottweiler who snapped at my face and grazed me with his teeth and it was never reported, because I just got a scratch. It all depends on training, training, training. Socializing to be around people and other dogs. No breed is completely non-aggressive, some are just more dangerous than others when they act on that aggression. The dog you ran into had probably been trained for dog fighting and either escaped or was dumped for not doing well enough. It isn't the breed. It's ALL in the owners. I've seen dogs who are apparently aggressive turn around and be the sweetest things once they're actually taught and socialized properly. If a dog turns out super aggressive despite training/socializing, it's a brain defect, not a breed trait. Edit to say: I am very sorry that you and your dog were attacked like that, and I understand the fear that comes with seeing that particular breed... but you can't demonize all of them. I have a fear of Rottweilers now and get very uncomfortable around them, but I don't blame the breed.

Did you know that pit bulldogs and most other fight dogs where actually meant to take care of children and had the purpose to be a family dog the only reason they are used for fighting is because of how good they obay and how ther scull is built its sad that such things lead to the outcome that they became [ dangerous] to most people

I have found that owning a dog has a psychological healing effect, but it actually has a health benefit as well. The reason for this is the walks that definitely follow you when you get a dog. But with a large dog, you need to let him run around in parks and open spaces. It may seem like a lot of work, but walking with a dog is so much fun that some people get a dog to get rid of their lack of exercise. If you walk your dog at the same time and along the same route every day, your dog will make friends. Dogs, like humans, look forward to seeing their friends. If you don't see your friend you see all the time, you may wonder, "What happened to him today? It's the same for dogs. Dogs are the same way. They greet their friends at the usual place, play at the park together, and say, "See you tomorrow! What do they say? Through dogs, people on walks also become friends and acquaintances, and the encounters expand. Before you know it, your dog's fun may become your fun, too.

For me it was horses, it could have been any animal but for some reason horses resonated with me this year. I discharged from the navy with mental issues and feeling quite depressed, bought a horse and even though she was wild and unbroken being with her made me feel so calm, happy and in the moment. Since then I've bought 2 more, this time rideable, and without them I don't know where I'd be. I drive 3 hour round trips to see them several times a week. Keep in mind I've never had horses before this year or rode them, but I literally blossomed this year. I think I need to pursue a future career with animals for sure.

They take neglected horses and work with people with learning disabilities who have high anxiety, and they use them to mirror each other’s body language and fall into a state of relaxation. It’s amazing to watch.

For me it's not just my dog but my cats as well. My dog cuddles right into me and we feel so bonded. My cats will lay on my lap or curl up with me in bed and the minute they start to purr it's pure relaxation and comfort and nothing in the world is a better or more beautiful feeling. Could not live without my beautiful babies.
