Recently we came across this beautiful Porsche 356 SC Coupé 1964 at The Gallery in Brummen, The Netherlands. We took the car for a little spin! We love to hear your comments on our videos. Feel free to leave one!

The Porsche 356 is an automobile which was produced by German company Porsche from 1948 to 1965. It was the company's first production automobile.
The 356 was a lightweight and nimble-handling rear-engine rear-wheel-drive 2-door sports car available in hardtop coupe and open configurations. Design innovations continued during the years of manufacture, contributing to its motorsports success and popularity. Production started in 1948 at Gmünd, Austria, where approximately 50 cars were built. In 1950 the factory relocated to Zuffenhausen, Germany, and general production of the 356 continued until April 1965, well after the replacement model 911 made its autumn 1963 debut. Of the 76,000 originally produced, approximately half survive.

0:56 This is why I love the 356. Just look at that shape. To me the coupe defines the beautiful complete lines of the car.

My first ride in a Porsche was in an SC of this gray in Lawrenceville, VA. I was probably 16 and visiting grandparents when I went to look at the SC a few blocks away. The owner must have seen me through a window and kindly came out and offered me a ride. Five years later a blue SC would be my second Porsche. It was a joy to Drive.

Agree except for the eighties lift music. I have the 75bhp C model, which compares with British sports cars of the era for performance, but with better ride, handling and brakes. It’s an excellent long distance Tourer for the time and will cruise comfortably at 75-80mph. Mine goes pretty well, but is 1720cc and has a 912 cam, so probably 90bhp.

Entonces imaginate conducir algo que tiene mas ingeneria, belleza y elegancia como un Alfa-Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce o una GTV. Ese 356 lo tiras.

This question is open to anyone. Why don't car companies just produce a brand new car that looks like this? I would bet that they would be immensely popular.
@EricEhmke

LarryC213 you can't build a car like this anymore unfortunately. Safety and emission standards make it nearly impossible

Eric Ehmke, My apologies, sir. I suppose that I did a very poor job of wording that comment. In my opinion, which admittedly isn't worth a great deal, what I was trying to say is that, in my opinion, car companies, such as Porsche, could build a brand new version with the exact highly sought after body styles that are so popular today, interiors included, but with a modern engine, suspension and braking system. Almost all the big car companies have highly sought after models with the looks that so many people badly want today. The 1957 356A, comes to mind. The 1957 Chevy. The Plymouth Barracuda convertible would be another fantastic car that it would be incredible to be able to purchase today. Just a thought.

Among this series Porsche, the 356SC is the best balance in my notion, 90ps-DIN power unit is a regular gem. It is curious that there were a version named "Dame" producing 75ps, named after the French word meaning "Woman". This guise is positioned at "a notch above the VW KarmannGhia"; namely a "personal coupe like a VW Scirocco today" than a pure sport.

MrBEAR55100 I believe that Die Dama, The Lady version is rated at 60ps-Din. The 356 1600 S version is rated 75-Din, the 356 1600 SC version, the one featured in this video, rated at 90ps-Din. I have owned and driven all 3 motors. Among the pushrod variants of the earlier flat four Porsche motors, the 912 variant is the most powerful. Of course the quad cam Carerra 4’s, the race spec motors were more powerful still. While 60ps-Din is an unimpressive number, these touring models were a joy to drive as the cars all weighed under 2000 lbs, were very aerodynamic with low drag, and could be lugged down more without hurting them for casual driving than the higher spec versions. As a result the service life of the base spec model was generally longer and more economical to run.

@@garthlundquist8316 for the pushrod engines, there was no S version in 1964 C cars just "C" 75hp (S carryover engine) and "SC" 95 hp (in this video). the base Normal "60" 60 hp (somtimes referred to Damen), mid range "S" 75 hp, and high end S90 (90 hp) naming exited in 1963 B cars.
